Waking up and The System

A/N: Italics = System

I woke to a knocking on the door and my name being called. I groggily opened my eyes and spotted a middle-aged lady entering the door into the room.

"Jonathon, it is time to get up. Breakfast is almost ready, and it's your turn to help set the tables. Quickly now, get dressed and wash up." Ms. Scott, as my new memories supplied for me, said as she stopped in the middle of my room with a smile.

I sat up, noting the few things in my room as I did, and replied. "Yes, Ms. Scott."

Nodding her head, she turned to leave the room while speaking. "Good. Don't forget to brush your teeth."

After the matron had left my room, I took a moment to look at my room. It was small, but well made. The walls had nice paint on them. My memories told me the orphanage was a small one, but appeared well funded. I had a small bed with a chest at the end, and a small dresser. I was relieved. Though there weren't any toys lying around, the orphanage wasn't the dreary place as I had feared.

After my perusal of the room was over, I climbed out of the bed, noting my new child sized limbs, and went to the dresser to grab today's clothes and my cleaning supplies. I paused after grabbing my outfit to sort through the few memories that came with my new body. There wasn't much; the layout of the orphanage, the names of the matrons that looked after us, and a few of the other children's names. Recalling where the washroom was, I set out.

Getting to the washroom, I noticed there were two. One for the girls and one for the boys. As I opened the door to the washroom, I once again felt surprised by how tidy and clean it was. As I walked up to the counter, I noticed the cheery light blue walls, and how clean the sinks and toilets were.

Setting my things on the sink, I took in my new form. At five, my features were hidden under a healthy layer of baby fat. Still, underneath that, I could vaguely make out the chiseled jawline and aristocratic features I would have after growing up. My hair, black and still messy from bed, was ear length and curly. My favorite feature on my face was the eyes. I had shiny, almost glowing, dark blue eyes with a distinct silver circle running around the edges.

Feeling slightly narcissistic about how long I've spent checking myself out, I set about washing my face and brushing my teeth. Finished with it, I quickly cleaned up after myself and headed back to my room to put away my dirty pajamas and put on my trainers. Recalling how to get to the kitchen, I set off to find Ms. Scott.

 Time Skip

After helping Ms. Scott set out the food and eating my own excellent breakfast. I made my way to the community room and found a small colored book to use as a decoy while I sat in a small chair in the room's corner to go over the System pop-up I received while helping with breakfast. Opening the book and appearing to focus on it, I focused on the notifications I had received.

[System Initializing… Welcome user to the Prodigy System]

Prodigy system? I focused on the system and asked for an overview of its functions.

[The Prodigy system aims to transform the user into a prodigy in any discipline. By utilizing the 100x study speed feature or using points earned from completing quests, the user can increase currently known skills, learn, or buy new skills or items from the store. User can open the system by thinking about the name of a system menu]

[Gacha]

With a thought, I brought up the status menu.

Skill Occlumency: Master 3

Skill Wandless: Master 3

Misc: focus to expand list

'System, how do the levels correlate to information, and why aren't there more magic types listed?'

[User, that is due to you having no skill in the fields, unlike the more mundane ones where you graduated university.]

[Fields of knowledge are graded on a scale of 1-10 by the System, with 1 being elementary school, level 5 being a bachelor's degree, and 10 being hyper advanced civilization, while skill grades go beginner 1-3, intermediate 1-3, then master 1-3. The reason for the distinction is that just because you know the theory of something, doesn't mean you know how to apply it.]

That actually makes sense. I can code with the best of them, but using that knowledge for, say, hacking or AI creation is a totally different story. I imagine it's the same for magic. The difference between theory and applied knowledge.

After making sure I understood my status menu, I shifted focus to the quest menu.

Huh, I expected the first one, but the science quest was a surprise. I had already planned to use my time before Hogwarts to get all my sciences to University level, which if I've understood everything correctly, should be level 4. Level 5 shouldn't be too much harder with the 100x study speed ability of the system paired with my new photographic memory. Finished with the quest menu, I opened the store menu and browsed through it.

The store section was pretty self explanatory. It had a skills section and a template section. The skills section had everything from running and firearm handling to starship piloting. The template section held templates for every character I could think of. Sadly, they were all expensive. After window shopping for a while longer, checking out skills I would like to buy, I closed the store menu and opened up my inventory.

The inventory was in a standard grid totaling 64 slots by my quick count. The surprise came from the present icon in the first slot. Still sitting in the community room, I waited until after lunch to open it when I was back in my room. The last thing I noticed was the currency counter at the bottom right of the screen. It currently reads shows zero in both eruos and galleons.

Finished looking over the inventory menu, I opened the Gacha menu.

[Welcome User to the Gacha menu. The User will get 1 free spin each month. More spins can be gained either by spending system points or by receiving them as rewards from quests.]

[Gacha]

Spins Available: 0

That was less complex than any gacha system I've seen before. Checking the time, I noticed it was about thirty minutes after eleven, so I headed to the kitchen and help with handing out food.

 Time Skip

After eating lunch, I scurried to my room and closed the door. Opening my inventory, I selected and opened my starter pack.

Starter Pack opened

One textbook for each science that covers up to level 6.

One Phoenix Familiar Coupon

One House-Elf Coupon

One philosopher's Stone Coupon

Those textbooks are going to make the science foundation quest goals so much easier. I had actually been wondering how I would get my hands on bachelor's degree material while a young child. It prevents it from becoming a problem for me.

The question of where those other three items were had also been on my mind. I'm unsure what I'm going to do with a House Elf at the moment, because I'm still unsure if I even have a house for it to maintain. Meeting my new phoenix familiar has me thrilled. Hoping for a companion rather than just a familiar, I desire someone as clever as Fawkes from the movie.

Shifting all but the House Elf Coupon into my inventory, I grabbed it a read over its description.

[House-Elf Coupon]

Summons from the multiverse one fully trained house-elf whose traits match your wishes when torn.

That seems rather straightforward. Gripping the coupon in my hands, I decide on the traits I wish for my house-elf to have. With female, kind, protective, outspoken as traits in mind, I tore the coupon. Right away, I heard a small pop on my left side.
