The classroom buzzed with anticipation as another student raised their hand and asked, "Professor Vastor, what is the difference between the Black and White Griffon Academies? Aren't light and darkness elements two sides of the same coin?"
Professor Vastor nodded and smiled. "An excellent question. The White Griffon Academy focuses on healing, using light magic to mend and restore. The Black Griffon Academy, on the other hand, emphasizes destruction, harnessing the power of darkness magic to obliterate and dismantle."
As the professor continued to explain, he suddenly opened a warp gate, a spectacle that reminded Samuel of space-time ninjutsu and the techniques used by the Second and Fourth Hokages. Itachi had never obtained the Flying Thunder God technique due to the constraints placed on him by the village elders and his Uchiha bloodline. The warp gate also brought to mind the powers of Obito and Kakashi's Mangekyo Sharingan, but Samuel felt that bloodline limits like the Sharingan could transcend the usual boundaries of magic.
"Now, let me show you a Tier 4 healing spell," Professor Vastor announced, his voice filled with authority.
To everyone's astonishment, the first to successfully cast the spell was none other than Samuel. Professor Vastor's eyes widened in shock as he called Samuel to the front.
"You said you didn't know any light magic. How were you able to attempt a Tier 4 spell directly?" Vastor's voice was a mix of curiosity and disbelief.
Samuel's expression remained calm as he replied, "I had no one to learn from, but I pick up jutsu very fast."
The professor, feeling slightly insulted, demonstrated another Tier 4 spell, which Samuel also executed with ease. Vastor's expression shifted as he looked around at the students, particularly focusing on a petite girl named Quylla, and two other students, Lith and Yurial. This batch was full of talent.
Lith glanced at Samuel, who stood gazing at the sky, seemingly detached. Samuel's chiseled face and good looks made him popular among the female students, while the boys looked at him with envy. The nobles, regardless of gender, resented the fact that a commoner was excelling above them.
The next to successfully cast the spell was a boy named Yurial. He was an arrogant-faced youth, 1.65 meters tall, with red hair, blue eyes, and pale pink skin.
"Yurial, my boy!" Professor Vastor finally recognized him. "Long time no see. How is your old man, Deirus? Being an archmage is a big burden; you must be ready to step in and help him as soon as possible."
"My dad is doing fine, thank you. I'll send him your regards. With your help, I'm sure I will be able to keep up the family tradition."
"But of course! Mage bloodlines are highly treasured here at the light department. I hope you'll show all those snotty nobles and poor commoners what a true magician is made of."
This exchange made it clear that Vastor's discrimination was based not on birth but on magical talent and bloodline.
The professor then took the students on rounds to the academy's hospital, asking several diagnostic questions along the way. Most students chose healing as their specialization, finding it an easy job that didn't require armor or fighting, just treating patients, which paid well and offered security. While some students made fun of Samuel, only a few talented commoners and nobles were able to diagnose properly.
Samuel learned the spell but didn't stand out, as he lacked information about human anatomy. To everyone's surprise, the archmage's son Yurial was equaled in talent and precision by the snob-faced girl, while the young miss and the edgy-faced kid ran circles around even them, standing out like hawks among crows. Samuel used the spell and made whatever observations he could, drawing from his rogue ninja experience in medical ninjutsu.
Vastor eyed the three commoners, Lith, Quylla, and Samuel, like a predator. Another standout was Friya Solivar, whose mother was a duchess. Quylla introduced herself, "My name is Quylla from Cerea. I'm twelve years old." Lacking proper etiquette, she made a deep bow and shared what she deemed relevant.
Professor Vastor gave Quylla special attention, recognizing the potential benefits of early connections. He noted how her reaction to praise indicated she was under his control.
Lith used silent water magic to take notes. He noted four names, including Samuel, and ignored the rest, stating, "I always write down everything significant to make it easier to remember. The three of them are the only ones worthy of attention."
When it was Samuel's turn to introduce himself, he said, "I am Samuel, an orphan from Canra village. I like sweets and peaceful life, and I hate fighting and violence." He followed the code of ninjas from Konoha, unaware of the formalities.
Then came Lith's introduction. "My name is Lith from Lutia. I'm twelve years old too."
"Twelve years?! Lith?" Professor Vastor was taken aback. Lith was already taller than him, standing at 1.6 meters. "I've heard so much about you. Everyone here has. Guys..." He addressed the whole class but looked only at the other three, ensuring their attention.
"Lith here is the one who cracked the so-called 'curse,' a unique poison that eluded even the best of us. Have you heard about it?" Friya and Yurial nodded, while Quylla and many others shook their heads. Vastor continued, "A twelve-year-old hexacaster, with great talent in light magic to boot, that's how he got his admission."
Turning to Samuel, Vastor explained, "Samuel, an orphan, submitted a new form of lightning magic, which allowed him to be selected."
With their backgrounds revealed, Lith's classmates began to look at him and Samuel with new eyes, even a hint of respect. Friya and Yurial regretted their earlier actions. If instead of throwing trash at him, they had managed to get on his good side, maybe he could have taught them so much. For a moment, Friya thought she was the only one with another chance.
After what had happened earlier, Lith was clearly sensitive to feminine charms, and she was quite pretty. But when she smiled at him and Samuel, hoping the commoners would start drooling over her looks, Lith sent her a cold glare that sent shivers down her spine, and Samuel turned his face away without looking.
Lith and Samuel exchanged a glance, realizing they might have to stick together. Quylla regretted not making connections earlier.
Vastor patted Lith's shoulder, saying, "Lith, my boy, you should smile more. If you keep glaring at everyone, how could they notice how handsome you are?"
With their talents acknowledged and paths intertwined, Samuel and Lith silently agreed to navigate this new world together, aware of the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead.
