Colliding with you wasn’t how I imagined my morning to go

"Honey" Veronica said to Jake as She walked around her desk towards him. Her meticulous fingers making sure that She had organized everything neatly on the table one last time before grabbing onto his arm. Her pale blue eyes gazed down to her cellphone before looking back up to the elevators in front of them. It had been twenty minutes since Jake's friend had been scheduled to arrive. "Shouldn't your buddy be arriving today?did you text him?"

Jake leaned against veronica's desk while She hoisted herself up onto the desk. ". I did. I would have thought that he would be on my time for our reunion but Adam has never been one to arrive early" he sighed out. His caramel colored eyes glued to the elevators one second longer before straying towards Veronica's legs. "Nervous much?"

She looked downwards to see Jake's palm on her leg. His warmth soothing her nerves as Sge slowed down the movement of swinging her legs into the air. "Could you tell?" Veronica chuckled out. "I guess my nerves showed through."

All throughout the morning, She felt the sense to run as if her body could predict danger around the corner. It had already been nerve wreaking finding out that Jakes long time friend who ironically had the same name as an old ex of hers was moving into the same city. And to find out that Jake was partnering with him in his law firm business didn't sit well.

Jackson tapped my leg twice."Don't worry. Adam will love you. "

My heart rate increased as I heard the name Adam followed by the words love.

I had never met Jake's friend and he didn't have a current photo of him besides one when they were in their diaper days. Jake's friend had refused to send a photo of himself stating he wanted to keep his identity a surprise for the reunion.

"I sure hope so. Can't have my boyfriend's best friend hate me, Can I?"

I asked rhetorically. My nerves refusing to calm down. Just like that we continued to wait for Jake's friend as time ticked on.

"You're friend seems to be late. Why don't I go buy us some bagels at the bagel shop down the corner while we wait?"

"I'm sorry" Jake smiled sheepishly. "I know you must be starving"

I leaned over to place a kiss on his cherry colored cheek. "It's okay. I'm sure he has a good reason for being late."

I gave him another kiss this time on the lips before proceeding to walk over to the elevators and getting inside.

"Text me if he shows up and I'll run over here" I said as I pressed the button for the first floor.

"Will do" I heard him say as the elevator doors shut in front of me.

The walk to the bagel store did help in alleviating the sense of doom she had been feeling all morning but the sensation did not leave her body.

The closer she got to the store the more the smell of warm bread wafted towards her . A smile bloomed on her face as she recalled the countless days she had spent in this bakery with the old lady who owned it.

As soon as she opened the doors, the owner Glaciel called out to her. " the usual?"

"Yes ma'am" she confirmed.

It hadn't been a couple of minutes that she had walked into the bakery that she was heading out the front doors. Her gaze solely on these freshly baked goods that she failed to notice the door swinging away from her fingertips.

She felt her body catapult forward. Her face smushing against something hard and soon she felt a stinging sensation on her nose. she quickly covered her nose. Her eyes squinting shut in pain. The bagels long forgotten as they slipped from her hands.

A tragedy.

"Colliding with you wasn't how I imagined my morning to go" A familiar voice said .

Her eyes opened in shock as the voice brought forth memories. Dread soon set in as her opened eyes recognized who stood in front of her.

"A-Adam?" She stuttetered out not believing what she was seeing.

He gave her a sheepish smile as he tucked his hands into his pockets. " it's nice seeing you"

Time froze for Ashley in this second. Multiple scenarios raced in her mind on how to continue this but the one that won was one that did not want to deal with this.

She flapped her arms randomly. "Okay. Okay"

She quickly dropped down on to her toes to pick up the discarded bagels. Her fingertips shaking. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Adam bend down to help her but she quickly stood up with whatever bagels she could get her hands on and proceed to move around him.

Unfortunately, life never went how she would like it to go. As she took a step away from him, she felt him grasp onto her arm. "Wait-"

However, she was not going to wait. Ashley ripped her arm out of his hands. "Don't touch me " she spat out.

He positioned hands in the air, surrendering himself to her. " I just want to talk"

Again she refused to let him continue. She pointed her index finger angrily at him . "No! I am not doing this with you. Do you hear me?!" She huffed out loud before turning around to continue on her way back towards the place where she worked with Jake. All the while she forbade to let angry tears roll down her face despite her lower lip wavering.
