Chapter 4 The calm before the storm

Martha brought down the hood of her cloak, she felt she was safe. She started walking along the streets thinking about what to do, now that she's here she needs a place to stay and settle down. She was getting tired, she saw someone walking in the same direction as her it was a lady so she approached her,

"excuse me " Martha said

"how may I help you? " the lady asked

"please could you show me an Inn I just arrived in this city and end a place to stay"

"oh why don't you come with me, I work in one of the best Inns in the city" the woman said happily.

"lead the way then" Martha said with a small smile.

"my name is Gem Armstrong and welcome to Dawnville" the lady Gem said as they walked towards the Inn.

"my name is Martha Wit and this is my baby Iris Wit" she felt comfortable using her real name because her name is very common, and the Wit family isn't some prominent family in Kingsland or any other place anyway. After almost twenty minutes of walking they arrived at the Inn, it wasn't small, it definitely wasn't small, on the top of the building there was a sign that read ...ARMSTRONG CUPS OF WINE... Martha smiled and chuckled at the name,

"it might not be the coolest of names but it is catchy and easy to remember, me and my sister run this place with our father" Gem said with a big smile on her face.

"I will definitely never forget that " Martha said while smiling. Gem and Martha walked into the tavern, and it was packed with people which made Martha supprised as this was more than she expected it to be,

"how is this place so full " Martha asked

"you think it's packed now you should see here at night" Gem said. They walked towards the counter, and Martha saw a lady that looked like Gem but with some major differences, Gem had brown hair but this person has black hair and looked slightly older.

"Hello sister is dad in?" Gem asked

"he's in the kitchen assessing the food and by that I mean eating them, sigh"

"I'll go meet him I have something for him" Gem said

"okay but who's she" the lady pointed at Martha

"oh right this is Martha Wit and she needs a place to stay, she just arrived at the city, soooo I brought her to the best place.

"Hello Martha my name, is jade Armstrong, don't worry Gem leave her with me" Jade said

"thanks sis " Gem said and left.

"okay seeing as you just arrived in this city you probably haven't done your identity registration have you? " Jade asked

"no I haven't, how do I go about that?"

"well you're going to have to do it at a guild or register with the Knights at their training office, there are only five guilds in this city you can get your identification processed there, here's a map of the city so you'll be able to navigate" she handed Martha a map of the city and then brought out a record book,

"here write down your name, once you've done your I.D you'll comeback with your I.D token and number". Martha wrote down her name and passed the book back.

"it's ten bronze for one night with access to a bath and a meal" Martha brought out one silver coin, and handed it to her,

"I'll be staying for too months take me to your best room"

(Author's note: one hundred bronze equals one silver and one thousand silver equals one gold)

the coin definitely left her stunned for a second, she quickly regained her composure.

"well come with me" Jade said and took her to a big room up stairs with enough space to move around and she lit a lantern a new opened the window.

"thank you so where is the bathroom is need to clean up" Jade took Martha down stairs to a room with buckets filled with water and a stool to sit on.

"though it's a bathroom shared with the rest tenants it is well kept and cared for" Jade said. Soon jade left Martha after giving her all necessary information, Martha took baby Iris to bathe and had a change of clothes. Martha decided to register with a guild, get her identity processed, so she can become an adventurer and earn enough to take care of herself and Iris.

Martha registered with a guild, she became an adventurer and a strong one at that, In two years she bought her own house, she accepted missions to explore dungeons and did other dangerous things. In five years she gained the title of Noble and gained recognition from the palace and in ten years Iris Wit had grown to be a good swordsman in fourteen years Martha established her own guild and Iris became captain of his own squad of Knights serving Dawnville.

But even during those peaceful years news of the king of Kingsland would spread that he was spreading his rule and conquering other kingdoms, those who tried to oppose him would fall and those who survived would tell tales of the soldiers of Kingsland, they would say the they were stronger than men some say they were beasts.

But more would speak of the king and 7 men who followed him, they were feard, they spoke of the weapons they wielded that made them do unexplainable things.

News came that they were advancing towards Kingsland and that created unrest. In the heart of its citizens many started leaving the city as they felt it wasn't safe. This left Martha worried and so she decided to leave too,this left a bad taste in her mouth as she had grown to like this city, but she had to, she planned to tell Iris that he should resign and come with her.

Little did they know that what they feared would happen sooner than later.
