Chapter 2

After staring at the brick wall, the youth's face was extremely disgruntled. "Even though it feels like a good deal, I do not have the money for an inn. I should of at least tried to barter a bit. So I guess now I have to deal with sleeping on the street." Pulling out the map they navigated themselves to the place that Leo said to head to the next day. "If I sleep here at least I will show my value of being early in the morning. I hope they have a shower inside or else I am going to smell till payday." They sat down by the door and closed their eyes, it was an uneventful night.

Early in the morning, while the sun was still not in the sky, a man with slicked back hair wearing a business attire saw a youth standing at his newly built guild hall.

"Hello, welcome to 'Celestial Rolling Hills Guild Hall' how may I be of service to you?" The youth smiled and cleared their throat, " Nice to meet you sir. I was told to be here by Sir Leo, he mentioned a job opportunity at your humble establishment." The well dressed man started to laugh as he unlocked the front door. "Haha, Leo told me about you. Well, come on in, the locker room is down the left hall. Get changed in to your gear and wait for me at the top of the stairs."

After taking a quick shower and changing, the youth decided to read the description of the kit he bought the previous night.

Shotgunners Kit

G0 Shotgun(pump) x1

Raw Materials(G0 Shotgun Ammo) x10,000

The face of the youth was sullen. "That old guy could of told me I had to make the shells from scratch. I hope today is just orientation cause I do not believe in myself to earn much money by bashing monsters with the shotgun." After storing the raw mats in a locker, they decided it was time to head up the stairs. Reaching the top of the stairs they realized all that was up here was prayer rugs and the assumed owner of the building holding a clipboard.

"Okay this is going to be pretty simple, all you have to do is light an incense and pray however you prefer on the prayer rug and then your soul will be simulated into the world the rug is connected to. Once the incense runs out or you die inside you will be sent back here and your shift for the day would be considered done. Of course if you choose to start another shift, after paying a small fee you can buy another incense stick and go again. Each extra shift the price of the incense will rise, this is to stop people purposely dying to make the business be at a lose, I. hope you can understand. Oh, and for convenience sake just call me boss and I'll just call you by your last name."

Boss started looking at the papers attached to his clipboard and started flipping through them with a confused face. The youth, seeing the look of boss, chuckled to himself and spoke, "I forgot to tell Leo my name yesterday it must of slipped my mind. My last name is Lich, which in hindsight it is ironic a Paladin helped a 'Lich' get a job haha."

Boss smiled but it felt off cause it was the same kind of smile Leo occasionally gave them when he thought Lich wasn't looking. "Well, I do not want to get in the way of you making money so here is your first incense. If you want to buy more shifts, my office is to the right of the entrance at the end of the hall. Your rug is that blue one over there." After boss was done talking he went down stairs.

"I guess I am working today. I wonder what kind of monsters I'll find in the rug... uh world?" After sitting down on the rug, Lich laid the shotgun in their lap. "I don't really pray, so I hope meditation works." But as soon as Lich lit the incense it turned out they did not need to meditate as they instantly passed out and entered the rug's world.

Opening their eyes, they realized the reason why the name of the guild hall included rolling hills. As far as they could see was hills and giant blue blobs bouncing around in abundance. "So I bought a shotgun to kill... slimes. I hope whatever the loot is it will help pay for more materials for ammo. Wait do I need to learn laws to make the ammo or is it more simple than I think. Dammit if I had a phone I wouldn't be so ill prepared for all of this. I hope Leo doesn't want me to pay him back so soon or I might have to work myself to death to get the money...wait."

Walking up to the closest lone slime (from behind?) Lich launched a sneak attack swinging down the shotgun on the slimes top. Only for it to bounce back and almost hit them in the face. "Fuck! Is it immune to physical attacks?!?"

Reacting to getting hit, the slime spit out a blob of its own slime, hitting Lich square in the chest.

'SSSSSZZZZ'

Staring in horror at their chest they realized the place where the slime hit was a melting hole the size of a bucket. The next moment, Lich was back in reality puking out their guts which seem to only consist of a single small meal. Hearing the commotion Boss ran back up the stairs to find Lich laying in their own throw up and rushed to sit them up. "Hey, it's okay it wasn't real, your fine." Boss tried comforting Lich but for some reason it felt it was forced and it was the first time Boss tried helping someone. Lich, feeling like that line of thought was inappropriate, decided it was best to ignore that thought. "To die instantly it must be a dangerous place, sorry for sending you alone. So what type of monsters are we dealing with? Dragons? Demons?"

Lich , whose face was extremely red from blushing in embarrassment said in a low voice, "Slime.. just a weak slime." Boss looking at Lich with a blank face caused Lich to panic and tried to explain their blunder. "I just got to the city yesterday and after I spent all day getting my armor I was left with hardly anytime to get a weapon, so I went to the closest weapon dealer and bought a weapon kit. Only to find out this morning I was supposed to make my own ammo. I thought with enough stalling I could beat lone monsters with blunt hits but.. to run in to slimes who seem unaffected with physical attacks I made some dumb decisions."

"Hmm, well as long as you learn from this incident and do better next time, it will do you good in the long run. Well, so you have enough to feed yourself, how about I also have you take up janitor duties and add $10 a hour pay." Lich thinking about the extra income after his blunder of not getting any loot smiled. " Sure boss, I'll get on it right away!" "Good I like the enthusiasm. The cleaning gear is in the locker room you changed in. After you clean up this mess, sweep and mop around the rugs and you will be done for the day. Take that time to find a workshop and pay for some classes with this money."

Boss took out $10,000 and passed it to Lich. "It isn't necessary to learn any laws to make the ammo, since the weakest shotgun shell can easier decimate a slime. But learning fees and workshop renting fees can be a pain in the ass. Think of this as early pay. Oh also the money Leo lent you, I payed off in your stead. I just need you to sign a few documents for being hired and the agreement to pay me back for the loans and you can leave for the day."

Lich quickly looked through all the documents and let alone reading, just signing all the spots felt like it would take at least half a hour. 'Boss is a stand up guy. He wouldn't try to scam me right? It should be fine if I just sign without reading it so I can settle my ammo problem. I mean both him and Leo pulled out so much money and gave it to me like it was nothing so it shouldn't take to long to earn that money back.' After that thought Lich hastily signed the documents. Seeing how Lich did not even read a single line, Boss's face had a sinister smile that quickly disappeared when Lich handed over the signed documents.
