10 Terra Farming

Sera was all too happy looking at the wheat seeds. She collected them all. Wait ! She has wheat, but no yeast. Also, there's no way to grind the wheat into flour.

She has to move the place. At this moment, she has no idea how long she has to stay on this planet. If her luck is good, then within a month, her family will send someone to check for and retrieve her body. If her luck is moderate, then the next testing site would also be this planet, then she could make contact with the mother ship to board it.

If her luck is as awful as it can get, then she will live like a castaway on this planet. If that were the case, she by no means can not live as she was right now.

First, she needs to find water !

Second, she needs to find a safe location around water !

Wait ! What was the seasonal schedule of this planet ? Is there a winter ?

In winter, can her mecha cabin keep her warm ? Can she light a fire in her mecha cabin ?

No ! I will think about these things as I move. Sera decided. Moreover, she has a ready made google with her. How did she forget that part ?

' System ! show me information about planet 144. ' she ordered.

[ Planet 144 ]

[ Part of Demeter Galaxy. It's one of the planets in the life belt of Demeter. The winter lasts as long as three years, while summers last six years. Planet has a core of water, covered by a rocky shell, atop which lays the crust. The rocky crust is considered one of the hardest minerals in the galaxy, needing at least a grade seven diamond drill. Atmosphere is thirty eight percent oxygen, rest inert gasses. Wind storms are common, usually caused by gravitational storms. Due to the frequent wind storms, the planet is considered uninhabitable, but suitable for industrial farming. It is considered a 3 - star planet, owing to strongest fauna on 144 being a three star being. ]

' How far along are we in summer ? '  Sera asked.

[ This is sixth year's sixth month. ]

The system answered.

Sera resisted the urge to swear. That damned instructor ! If she ever goes back, she will just pack him up and throw him away in space !

The diamond drill talked about here is a thing similar to oil mine drilling equipment. It's impossible to make do with what she has on hand.

' System ! Any past failed expeditions ? ' Sera asked.

[ yes. To the point x. It is in other hemisphere, at five thousand miles away. ]

' any nearer expeditions ? ' she added.

[ there are none. ]

' Wait ! ' Sera thought for a moment. If this planet is to be an agricultural planet, then it makes most sense for the expeditions to go to the best place for farming. If that were the case, then this place she is in is least suited for farming ?

' no. let's only think about what I can do. ' Sera thought.

' System ! show me nearby valleys. ' Sera asked.

[ In one and half kilometers north, there is the valley of Ribbits. Depth : 200 m.]

[ In five kilometers south west, there is poison valley. Depth 210m. ]

[ In five hundred kilometers south, there is an unknown valley. Depth > 500 meters. ]

' Why is the depth ambiguous ? ' Sera  asked.

[ The bottom of the valley is curved. No one knows the real depth of this valley. ]

Sera made her decision.

After a walk of two hours, and countless dead Ribbits, she arrived at the valley of the Ribbits. As she killed her way into the valley, she came across a mess of Mecha. It seems it fell down the valley from the highest point.

The mecha cabin's hatch was open. There are shreds of a space suit and broken helmet pieces nearby. Then, she saw something she never expected to.

The glassy orb that looked like the system she absorbed. With a mere thought, the mecha picked up the ball automatically like it was breathing. It is indeed an orb that is similar to the system she got before coming here.

' System ! will you also become a drop like this when I die ? ' Sera asked sadly.

Their time together was short, yet, due to presence of the system, Sera had not been lonely.

[ I am touched. ]

The system responded to her thoughts rather than answer her question.

[ Yes, quite possibly I will be dropped like this. ]

[ You can do gene binding to prevent this from happening. ]

The system advised.

" Is there a problem with this binding method ? " Sera wondered. If it is so good, why isn't everyone doing this thing ?

[ Binding a system leaves an imprint on the soul. ]

[ You will not be able to change the system once you bind to DNA ]

" Oh ! That's all. Bind then. " Sera agreed.

Once again, her head throbbed.

Then, all of a sudden, Sera knew what to do.

She took the orb, then put it on her mecha's forehead. Unlike other Mecha's, her Mecha is a living being. So, the system orb could be bound to her Mecha.

[ Connecting to 'Transformer System ' ]

[ Synchronizing with the senses of the Redwood man. ]

[ Now, you can control Redwood man as long as he stays with in your force field. ]

Wow.. remote controlling your mecha ?! Sera is all for it. Moreover, with the transformer system which gives access to blueprints of almost all mechanical devices in the world, combined with her support system which could work any job save for a fighter, it's like growing wings.

Sera continued hunting, cleaning up the entire valley. Once she did, she changed into her space suit, entered the mechanical mecha, leaving Redwood.

First, with the help of her system, she transformed the mechanical mecha into a tractor. Then, a long tentacle grows out of the Redwoodman. The tentacle surrounded the wheel frames. It puffed up, like a tire. Once it reached a certain size, Ribbit skin grew on the tire. After the tire is formed perfectly, the tentacle dried up like wood. With a snap, the alive part cut off from the dead part, leaving the tires on the mecha.

Sera added the planting tools from the super set to the mecha. These are S-grade tools. That means as long as she injects force into these tools, they will increase and decrease in size. Sera couldn't be happier when she realized this fact. With the system's soul binding, all the knowledge that system has is also her knowledge. Like before, she need not ask do this, do that. The moment she needed it, the information magically appeared in her brain.

She knew the soil is loamy, neither dry, nor moist and with enough root depth, the water so needed could be found.

She tilled the land, then attached the seeder. She put the seeds in the correct place.

When Redwood returns tonight, she will give them energy. During this time, Sera has another project. She looked into techniques related to energy transfer. It seems before using energy transfer at all, she needed to be almost perfect at using force.

However, Original owner had been slacking, so her force's quality was too low. That is what Sea thought. She was wrong.

Dustwoods are druids. They can grow a forest with a flick of a finger. The breadth and width of this forest depends on how widely they can spread their force.

Sera sat in a meditative position on the mecha's floor. She tried spreading her force.

It was like the unfurling of a parachute.

One moment, she was opening, the next moment, it spread across tens of meters. That's how it felt. Her force spread over fifty kilometers. Sera apologized to the original owner for looking down on her. Spreading out force is ten times harder than condensing force. Yet, Sera was able to do this over a spawn of fifty kilometers. She is not a genius, she is a prodigy.

It seems she had been diligently preparing to help Lance as a tracker. Yet, the arrogant boy had shunned her, saying a drone can do reconnaissance faster and farther than a human. However, Sera is learning now, no, that's not true at all.

Sera found out, the quality of information was wildly superior with the force. She knows exactly how many ants are crawling cutting away leaves, how far down the rocky layer was, where this rock layer is at it's thinnest , where this rock layer is porous … how many bees are in the hive at a tree twenty kilometers away, what is flying above at a height of twenty two kilometers.

It is a three dimensional scan of the entire area, without disturbing or alerting a single being. Just how useful is this information ? This cheating scumbag is touched in the head to have skipped the Original Owner choosing Charlene. But then … cheating scumbag is best suited to a master sea queen, so Sera did not feel all that wronged for him.

I digress…

Now that she has felt what it feels like, Sera just got the darndest idea in her head that she just wants to try.
