05 The baby
Noel POV
"Maddy" I called out when I got to her house. Everything in her house is ancient made. The sculpture, design, chairs, the stairs, everything. I climbed on the stairs which lead directly to her room. I opened the door and met no one. I went closer to the restroom and checked but she wasn't there. Why is it quiet everywhere? Isn't she home? I can smell her which means she is in the house. I followed her scent which led me to a room.
"Maddy" I called but no reply. This is where her scent leads me to. Isn't she in?
"Maddy" I called once again before opening the door in front of me. My eyes tried to adjust with the dim blue light in the room. I saw Maddy sitting on a rocking chair and holding something close to her. I looked around and saw everywhere scattered with baby clothes. Baby clothes?
"Maddy". Seems like she zoned out. I walked closer to her and tapped her. She jerked from the chair with an horrified expression but after realizing it was me, she calmed down and sat back on the rocking chair.
"Maddy! What is this? What is all this?" I barked. I snatched the baby socks she was holding close to her and dumped them on the floor.
"Stop this madness Maddy" I said.
"You.. you should stop the madness. I'm doing nothing wrong".
"Nothing wrong? Why sulking over something of the past? We made an agreement. And how did you get this… this back. How?" I said making reference to all the baby's attire on the floor.
She stood up out of anger making me shiver a little from the dangerous aura coming from her but I stood my ground.
"Noel, you can never understand my pain because you haven't given out your child" she said with an angry tone.
"Listen" I said, guiding her to sit back on the bed.
"Maddie, it was in the past. We did it for money. He needed a child and you slept with him and gave him the child he wanted and he gave us the money we wanted. He doesn't even know who he slept with. He just got the child". I paused looking at her reaction.
"We don't know him, he doesn't know us. The baby wouldn't recognize you and you wouldn't recognize the baby. Move on, please just move on". I can't believe she is crying, Tssk…..
"It isn't easy, I thought it would but carrying the baby for 9 month and breastfeeding him for one year ain't easy Noel". She said.
"I know okay, I know. If…"
"But Noel" she cut me off. "The Grannie wh.. who linked us up, we can find her right, we can. Hun? Noel. She knows him, she can…"
"Maddie just stop!". I said, feeling frustrated. I stood up and faced her. "There are more problems at hand. More! Listen, zayn came visiting today. The strange scent you have been perceiving has been perceived by them too" She looked up at me with wide eyes.
"Really. I told you. Who does it belong to?"
"My step brother is back. He is back with his mate". She stood up abruptly.
"Who?"
"The ones we killed of course". She scoffed
"Or the ones you killed" she replied
"What? Well… Let's forget about that. Mason? He is the one".
"Mason? Mason your daughter's crush". She came closer to me putting her hands on my forehead. "Are you sure you are okay?" I removed her hand, annoyed.
"I am. Mason is Mr Urlacher's son. Listen, search for him and check out his pictures. He is a masked singer who just revealed his face". I said.
"Well, my phone isn't with me" she replied, looking at me with a weird expression. Does she think I'm mad or am I? I took out my phone and googled him.
"Here, check it out" I handed the phone over to her.
"Mason" she scoffed bringing out a murderous look. She raised her head up at me "He is back. Eissh…" She dropped my phone on her bed.
"Maddie, I am confused. I killed him. What are we gonna do"
"What else? Kill him of course. Kill him again. Is that too much?" she said walking out of the door. "You said he and his mate are back. Have you seen her?"
"No but they can smell her. The scent of the MoonKnight pack is on her. But I killed them. We wiped them out." I said feeling frustrated. We reached the bartender and sat down. She poured herself a drink and gulped it down while I sat down watching her.
"They would be killed AGAIN" she said emphasizing on the last word. I nodded and poured out a drink for myself.
"Guess who I saw today, Jace," I said, smirking. She. turned to look at me and grinned widely.
"Fate can't stop bringing you two together, hun. I guess you would have been so happy today"
"Yea, I was until I saw Mason's picture"
"Don't worry, it will be alright"
"I want him. I want him back"
"He was never yours" she replied with an eye roll. "You guys can never be happy together, remember, we were cursed".
"Must you remind me of that? I don't care" I replied childishly.
"Just leave him. He is married". I rolled my eyes at her.
"You just wait…" I was cut off by my phone, ringing out. I picked it up and discovered it was Natalie. Then, I remembered what happened earlier.
"Shit! I need to go now. I got some explanation to do" she raised her eyes up confused.
"What?"
"I will talk to you later" I said and strode out of the house.
Natalie!!
Jace POV
"Babe, the Urlachers are holding a party in three weeks time in respect to Mr Urlacher's birthday. We have been invited".
"Yay, I would love to go. I will be able to make new friends. All my friends are old. And yeah, Melissa should be able to get friends too"
"Ohh Betty, Melissa hasn't seemed to change a bit. We are both extroverted and her siblings but she locks herself up all day" I said While she chuckled.
"If she get married, she will change," she replied.
"What? Marriage. Yea, that's true. Being married will change her. She is too withdrawn to herself and it ain't good". I replied feeling concerned for my daughter. I love her so much. My favorite, indeed. But she has no friends, always indoors. She lacks self confidence.
"Her and her siblings are off to school already. It's been a while since you took them to school".
" Have been busy but I will make it up to them. I'm off to work. Bye" I said going close to her to give her a peck which she reciprocated.
"Stay safe and be back early"
"Sure" I said on my way out.
