Chapter 14: Near Yet So far (1)

After the meeting with Yna and Mrs. Celine, Sophie called her mother to fetch her right away.

She's tired and longing for a peaceful rest. Sophie was too exhausted and weary because of the trouble that happened with Yna.

Sophie can't even believe that Yna and her are friends for the sake of a peaceful and ordinary type of life.

"Sophie, I'm on my way now," Ivy answered.

She gasped and replied shortly, "I am waiting, Mom. Thank you for coming!"

Little did she know, her mother already hung up and ended the call too soon. She smiled bitterly and lifted up her head.

"What a beautiful life and day!" Sophie closed her eyes as she inhaled fresh air from the trees.

She's been standing under the big trees that can be found in the exit. Sophie was accompanied by the janitress as what Mrs. Celine said.

Starting this day, Xian is not allowed to come and talk to her. Same as with her, Sophie is prohibited too to talk to Xian.

She quickly composes herself upon hearing the sounds of her mother's car. Sophie wiped her wet face and breathe in and out.

"Mother?"

"Come on now! Your father was too drunk and I need to fetch him at the bar." Ivy told Sophie. Her voice seems worried and at the same time, she's angry.

Anton became an alcohol addict lately. He can't even support Sophie's needs and wants. He changed suddenly and became selfish and careless that tear Sophie's heart into pieces.

"What? Let's go then!" Sophie exclaimed and hurriedly get into the car.

Ivy drove off to the bar with Sophie. Even though she's angry with Anton for always drinking, she can't bear to see him suffering and enduring. Anton is her husband, for richness and in poorness.

"Mom, please slow down! We can reach the bar, at a low speed."

Ivy didn't listen and keep driving fast. Fortunately, they reach the bar safe and sound. Ivy immediately take off the seatbelt and said, "Stay here Sophie! Since you can't help me to carry your father!"

By then, Sophie didn't insist to help finding her drunk father. She sat on the backseat, hurt, and insulted for the nth time.

"How can I help someone, if my own parents are dragging me down? How can I reach my dreams when my parents themselves are not supporting me? How can I appreciate the name of life when I'm suffering alone?"

Sophie shook her head, trying not to be emotional. Trying and acting like she was totally fine and happy.

This is not her lucky day, but still, Sophie smiled sweetly and see everything positively.

"Get inside! You spoiled brat!" Ivy told Anton and forced him to sit back beside Sophie.

"Father! You've been drinking the whole day and night! You're killing yourself so please, stop drinking from now on!"

Anton gasped and gave her an abrupt laugh and replied, "Sophie, my little girl. I am really sorry that I can't afford to give you a bright future and life. I... I am... I am really sorry, Sophie!"

"Stop Anton! You're drunk and we need to go home now!"

Anton shut his mouth up and leaned into Sophie's shoulder. She can't get what's her father was talking about earlier.

"Sophie, I am really sorry," Anton said until he fell asleep.

"Why are you saying that father? Sorry for what?" Sophie answered back without knowing that Anton falls into a deep sleep.

"Father?!"

Ivy said, "Don't disturb your father, Sophie, and don't ask him again. Understood?"

"Yes, Mom!" She replied, and opened the window for fresh some air.

Sophie, as they arrived, immediately walked into her room. She jumped off into the bed and closed her blind eyes to reminisce what just happened earlier.

Sophie remembered a song that suits their current situation between her and Xian.

"How ironic! I've never thought that I will feel this way towards a rich and popular man." She uttered as she began to sing a song.

"Xian, I am sorry for doing this. If only I have the right to choose, then I'll choose you Xian. But, I don't want to ruin your life, your future! That's why I decided to walk and slip away from you."

Sophie burst into silent tears. She cried alone; she sobbed embracing herself and her broken heart.

"Sophie, it's time to eat supper!" Ivy shouted from the kitchen.

She promptly wiped her tears and replied in a crack voice, "Yes Mother! I'm coming now!"

Sophie stood up, wearing only a pair of white socks when her phone rang. She searches for it but the call ended up too soon.

Sophie didn't bother to call back and so she breathes deeply and said, "I'll survive!"

Right then, she went out of her room and walked directly into the dining room.
