Chapter 56: The search!

The search!

"Baby, I got something to tell you!" I said standing behind him while brushed his teeth

"Oh Babe! About Miami I...." He began then I cut him short

"About Lacy." I blurted, I knew that this name would trigger a part of him to turn to me and listen

"What Lacy?" He asked with a squeeze on his. He rinsed his mouth and tooth brush and turned to me finally "Lacy?"

"Yes Lacy. I'm so sorry about everything...Come!" I beckoned as he followed me to the bedroom "Sit!" We sat on the couch

"What's wrong? Did anything happen while you were out?" Jamal asked cupping my jaws, causing my gaze to meet his.

"It was my fault, everything that happened." I said with my voice breaking

"...How's that your fault? You did nothing. Everything was my fault..." Jamal said

"Just listen, ok? Please." I countered seriously "Sometime ago, Jada and I spoke and she warned me about the McClure's but I didn't feel to not help when they needed my help. I tried to be neutral and not to think about something different then she came forth earlier and warned me about the McClure's..." I stopped to breathe properly

"Danni, I also warned you about them, you should just leave them alone..." He tried to scold calmly again

"You don't understand, do you. I didn't do anything, she just hates it when someone tries to support or be around them..." I explained as he interrupted me again

"...What would she do if you don't listen to her? Danni, you need to watch out and I don't see how this relates to what happened earlier. How was this your fault?"

"You don't understand?" I asked calmly

"You should make me to! Explain it better!" He inquired

"It was all because of my corporation and support to the McClure's, you know I helped with the electorial preparations right?"

  "We both did." Jamal reminded

"That's what I got for trespassing. I'm sorry, I should've listened then we wouldn't have gone through all that. She warned me again, this time i think she meant it "

"Can we mind our family business instead, we can't always help everyone. And Lacy?" He asked same question from earlier

"She killed her. She Mrs Brownie too!"

He embraced me good totally understood.

I felt much better that I spoke to him about it.

Eric was dismayed from the earlier discussion he had with Ada, she wasn't ready to listen or take him back. He knew he was at fault, even when she pleaded with him to love her in return, he only dejected her instead. Now, he had gained power through Jada's influence and her joined her in her deadly plan. Every thing became easier for him to deal with, he was prepared and determined to get His wife and daughter, Kayla. He sent some of his men to find Dylan's residence and of course, they did find him. Dylan was done with work for the day as he strolled down to his car as a man in black suit and tuxedos.

"How can I help you?" Dylan asked as politely as possible still lost in confusion.

They didn't talk nor say a word instead they motioned him to the black limousine that was pulled over at the dude if the road. The car was opened as he obediently but scarily

"Are you the man behind my wife's resistance?" Eric asked haughtily without turning to Dylan's confused face

"I'm sorry sir, who's your wife? I don't know about your wife, i promise." Dylan confessed sincerely

"I did not ask if you knew or not! I am asking you to leave her with an immediate effect." Eric warned

"Bu...But I don't even know her..." Dylan straightened out

"...Did you hear me or not, Dylan? This should not be a problem, should it? Display your patriotism like you always preach, I wouldn't repeat myself again. Now get out!" Eric instructed calmly

"I'm so sorry for invading your privacy, Mr deputy!" Dylan said simply as he walked out. He watched them drive out of sight as he walked to his car Immediately. He sat in the car closed as he took his phone to call Ada whom he suspected to be the wife of the deputy governor. He wasn't a type of man who would keep so many partners, whom he had as a girlfriend was Ada.

"Hi Ada, Are you home right now?"

"Oh yes. Remember, I still got quite a few days to resume work. Want to come over?" She asked jovially

"Yes. I think We need to talk, its very important."

"Ok, I'll be waiting on you." She said

"Alright! I'll be there in an hour." He hung up

An hour later,

Ada hugged Dylan tightly as she Kissee him lightly on the cheek. He sat on the couch while she rested her head on his chest then he handed over to her a diamond necklace, she was excited about it. Then he began.

"Who's the deputy governor to you?" His face looked deadly serious, this face was a face she had never seen.

"What do you mean by the deputy governor?" She was serious as well yet pretended to not understand

"Don't pretend, Ada. Are you his wife?" He asked seriously again like he was about to lose his mind.

She turned away rubbing her hair gently in guilt.

"I...I am not his wife, we had a divorce months ago. I'm not married to him." She defensively answered

"And who's Kayla's father?" Dylan asked, all these were new to him. Formerly, she lied about everything to him

"...it....its Eric's. The deputy governor!" She blurted out finally, even though she wrestled to speak out not to hurt him at all

"Why didn't you tell me all these while? Why did you keep all of this a secret from me? I thought we knew each other, I thought we had our backs." He looked heart broken

"I was trying to tell you but I didn't want to because I knew you'd be hurt by it." She said

"Did it help?" He asked with a quivering voice

"It didn't. Look, Eric is in the past life now and I'm happy about us, about how far we've come." She explained straightening out

"How sure are you about Eric? He didn't sound like a joke earlier and you know what that means." He reminder calmly then he hugged her tightly as he noticed that her eyes had welled up in tears. Just when she began to become a good mother and loving personality things began to turn its face.

                     *****************

At the McClure's, ever since they left the governor's residence, Carol communicating with  Kendall was not slowed at all. Most times, they spoke through the phone rather than a face to face. This time around, he called her through the phone again

  "Hi ma'am!" He greeted respectfully

"Yes Kendall. What do we have for today;?seemed to ask

"Sorry ma'am, our plans got ruined and  i think she's got proof about...." Kendall

Began to talk

"How's that even possible, Kendall? Did we not have every thing under control?" Carol sounded worried and disappointed at the same time

"Yes ma'am. I did everything I could but

then I got another clue." He added

"Say it already!" Carol became curious

"I think we might...." Kendall said and then his voice broke vans slowly died off, Carol could not understand or hear then she hung up.

Carol turned to Pete in disappointment again

"I think he found something, he was about to tell me." She turned concerned suddenly

"Maybe he had to go or it could be due to poor connection or some thing, either of them could be the reason." Pete stated

"No Pete. This boy has been nothing but faithful to us, we are slowly getting close to finding answers." She defensively said

"Of course, Carol I have tried everything I could to end all this fallacy but nothing works. Not even my friend had my back." Pete expressed him as he gulped his beer to relax his mind. Then she rubbed him on the shoulder and said

"You have tried and you need to rest at the moment, I promise that I'll handle everything as planned. Just relax ok? They'd all go down for bad governance." Carol advised duly as smiled. Every day was like to torture to Pete, he feared for every one in support of their influence.

Two weeks at a stretch, Beckett the butler came to let Carol know that someone had come to see her. She walked down the stairs slowly then she saw the person's back she recognized then she called gently

  "Kendall?"

He turned to her immediately as she saw one of his arm wrapped in a bandage yet he looked strong but wounded

"Hi ma'am!" He replied with a fine smile

She hugged him then they sat back, as she beckoned two maids to bring forth anything Kendall requested. They did exactly as he said, even if he requested just a little.

"Kendall what happened. I tried to reach you severally, my limits were at the residence. Tell me!" Carol's concern surprised him

"From the last call we made, Robin heard me talking and he suspected it to be you so he took up the chance to send me out of the residence which also meant quitting NY job forcefully. Last time, I told you everything he's done and all he's been doing but this time he turned it against me. I was beaten and expected to die, I guess the governor wanted him around so he left while I laid unconscious, good thing someone I never knew helped me out and now....I'm fine!" Kendall narrated

"Poor Kendall. I'm glad that you're fine anyways, I have been worried about you.  Could swear that something was wrong with you."

"Can I ask for a favor, madam Carol?"

"Yes anything." She affirmed with arguments

"Can I.....I... I uh....stay here for a while, I promise it figure out a way before the week runs out." He said scarily

"Is that it? That's fine. I'll talk to my husband while you stay here for the night."

He was excited, his face brightened then he began to talk about a more serious issue with her.

"I think....I found someone who could help us at the moment. Betsy Tariq, an old friend of Jada. To what I have found also she might be the only person to tell us about Jada." He blurted

"Ok! That's exciting. But how can we find Betsy, I could talk to her myself." Carol suggested

"It going to be hard, so hard. She's a wife to a really strong Mafia personality, a hand man to the late Dr Khaleefa." He explained

"Oh my god!" She exclaimed "Mustapha? That should be Mustapha, Betsy should be his wife. This world indeed is really tiny." She added lost for words

"That's not all. To get to her easily would require just one person without a stress."

"And Who's that one person?" She asked curiously

"Its your favorite, can you guess!" He teased with a faint smile, it was funny how they grew fond of one another.

  "Ada is!" She smiled

"Its a different one this time. Danielle!" He replied

Carol was shocked and altogether she remembered that she was the only one around that was so close to Mustapha and Jamal was really their big influence. Going to Jamal would require a long time but Danielle would be easy to talk to only if she agrees. They stood quiet bombarding In Thoughts.

I got a call from Carol while i was having an  afternoon nap. I was really exhausted to answer it but I had to

  "Mother!" I called sleepily

"Darling; how are you doing? How's my grandson?" She asked sweetly

"Very well thank you. And Mr governor?" I asked back

"He's doing well. She never stops calling him the governor, right!" She teased

 Then I chuckled

"Really what's wrong? Why did you call? I know its a wonderful gesture but you sound a lot better. Are we celebrating  something special or maybe there's special rendezvous..." I teased back

"I wish that but u could make that happen anyways." Carol said as we laughed to it, she cleared her throat to continue. I sensed there was something she wanted to tell me

"I want to talk to you about something tremendously important, I don't know how you'd absorb it buy I've got to try!"

"Tremendously important? What could that be?" I was curious and at the same time I prayed it wasn't something that would scare me off my feet again.

"I don't think we could talk over the phone. It may sound disrespectful and kind of unreasonable...I don't know Danni!" She sighed with heaviness too

"Ok. You can talk if you feel its really important for us to talk....or maybe I could come over later at 6 or 7pm." I suggested

"I'd appreciate it, talking over the phone would really not be helpful and like I said....it would be disrespectful. Thank you!"

"Yeah. See you soon!" I finalized

"Of course. Bye!" She hung up

I wondered alone, what could be the issue. I wondered if it had nothing to do with Jada cause I would want anything to do with her. I must confess that the last warning she gave me was extreme, if she could go to the extent of destroying my marriage then anything could happen at the moment. I promised Jamal not to interfere with their family or political problems, I wanted my family safe.

Jamal turned to me as he struggled to open his eyes.

"Baby? Are you okay?" He asked rubbing my hair

  "Oh yeah. Why?"

"Who was on the phone? It sounded like Carol!" He guesses right

"Oh yeah! Was she? She was! I'd be visiting her by 6pm, can I?" I asked

"I don't think you want to ask. You gave her a YES so how do I come in?" He said and of course he had a point

"Oh I didn't Realize. I'm so sorry do not asking. She inquired that it was important so I just had to. I'm really sorry, babe!" I apologized duly. He had a point, we promised to be careful about everything that concerned the McClure's which I understood as well. Risking my marriage, my little boy's life was something I wouldn't want to put in harm's way.

I had an in depth conversation with carol which she mentioned to me how importantly she wanted Jada out of the picture. Since it was easy for me to talk to Betsy, she pleaded that I get some meaningful and useful facts from her. I didn't tell her about our earlier conversation with Betsy over Jada nonchalance and cunning operation then I remembered that I was given a flash drive to check upon; how careless I was to not check. Although, I was too busy to remember but now that I was reminded about it, I was scared that it might cause Jada to harm my family as well. I was left confused.
