After they reformed to their true shapes, Scott whispered, “Someone lives here.”

“So it would appear,” Zoran replied. There was no light in the living room, except for what came in between the shutters from the streetlamps outside. But, with their preternatural sight, neither vampire had any problem taking in the highly polished, dark wood floors, the deep scarlet walls with white doorframes, baseboards and molding, and the ornate cut-glass chandelier in the center of the living room.

Even as Zoran spoke, a handsome, dark-haired figure with a trim mustache entered the room. The vampire, for that’s what he was, smiled when he saw Zoran, closing the distance between them to enfold him in a tight embrace. Then he stepped back, saying, “It’s been a long time, my friend.”
