This story is about a guy who slowly uses his magic to change the world into something quite disturbing. It all starts with him using his shop to sell his 'unique' items to unsuspecting customers that truly believed he was just a kind and gentle man~
Alex was unhappy about the world he had been sent to after receiving his wish.
His wish was to be his game character with all the modded spells added to his arsenal.
The second one was to have three life pools that grew with usage.
Health, stamina, Mana.
As for why the man was unhappy?
It was a magical 'modern' world changing due to dungeons.
The man wanted to be sent to a more enjoyable world for him to wreak havoc, like some undead world or even to his favorite anime called demon-slayer!
But The man can't cry over spilled milk, the ROB had already sent him here, and there was no way to leave it unless he figured out a more in-depth understanding of one of his schools of magic.
However, before anything else, let's focus on some important details about Alex's power source.
His game character, from a viral game, allowed its players to develop ways to build their own playstyle as long as their mastery of a specific skill reached a particular range.
Alex was a max-leveled Archdoppelganger mage in the game.
Most of his growth was put into mana and stamina as most of his trinkets provided various boosts and increased his meager health by 700+.
In the game, having more than a couple thousand health was average, so Alex was a glass cannon without his summons and tools.
He was relieved that all his current gear and stored items came with him.
After all, he was just a mage that didn't add much to his health.
His mage specialized in the following schools of magic, Alteration, conjuration, Taming, Runes, and Necromancy.
He did still have access to the others, but there is a reason why he focused so much on these schools.
Alex Silva mastered each school to the degree that he combined them to create a unique way of using corpses and magic.
The idea itself came from a few shows, with Castlevania pushing him in a direction to follow.
Forgemaster.
Those who use corpses to create monsters.
Alex more or less followed that route and enjoyed the outcome.
The monsters he'd make wouldn't be limited to humanoid or animal shapes.
He also made some that took the forms of armor, weapons, and extra yet detachable limbs.
His first success in creating a monster that could act as a child NPC's limb ended up changing that character into a legendary figure within the game.
So, Alex wasn't looking forward to his new magical world for the following reasons.
His powers would more than likely attract a lot of trouble.
Alex's current power level would slap some heavy responsibility on him.
He'd be a threat to the authority of those in charge.
His current race was a problem as well.
Only humans walked through the city, and no demihumans walked through the city as all non-human races were enemies of the human race.
Thus, he'll just hide his power until the time it is needed.
Alex sighed at the limitations, but he was semi-immortal thanks to his race change, so he'll be able to explore many things in this world!
All while looking like Izaya Orihara from Durararara.
—--------------------------------------------------------
In this world, monster cores and someone's skill ranks would decide their future.
From lowest to highest, it went by F, E, D, C, B, A, S, SS, and SSS.
Those with a B rank skill or higher were treated as VIPs no matter where they went.
Those with F-rank skills are shunned and treated like laborers.
This was because very few F-ranked skill holders can 'ascend' to higher ranks, so unless they had connections or were lucky, they won't be able to receive a sponsor.
Think of those with F-rank skills akin to dead-end jobs, at least in the eyes of the people of this world.
While Alex sensed something was wrong with this mindset, he didn't bother to change their way of thinking.
A good number of novels and shows often broke that misconception, and frankly, the mage believed their skill rank decided how fast one could grow, not the limit.
Alex was glad that all of his spells came with him.
It took hypnotizing 20 people to get him identification papers before creating his own gold to buy a small house that would become his shop to sell some 'tools.'
He wouldn't be sharing his runes or magical items with the people of this world, but his gear-type monster would help him continue to grow.
Because technically, the monsters were a part of him, thanks to being made from his magic so they can siphon 'experience' that will be shared with him regardless of distance.
Thus his shop was called Beasts R us.
Then began his new life as a shopkeeper, looking forward to how much he could change the world, be it for better or worse.
—--Several weeks later—--
Time passed, and not a single person was interested in his shop.
Many of the customers wanted cool-looking gear or powerful skills.
These people wanted the easy way out while putting their names out to increase their fame and prestige.
But one look at his wares made most of them do an about-face.
They were eye-catching but not in a good way.
Wearing any of them would make people immediately assume either the person was a nutjob or the kind of person you DON'T want to be in an elevator alone with~.
It couldn't be helped since every single one of them was a monster in disguise, and Alex's alignment from the game affected him subconsciously.
Some of the happy-go-lucky customers hoped he had some skills hidden away like some NPC, but alas, that was a fruitless endeavor.
None of his gear looked cool but downright menacing, nor did Alex have any skills he was willing to sell.
Thus the man was bored inside his shop while molding his recent project.
So he began making a new monster similar to a harpy.
It was going to be no bigger than an action figure.
However, it can switch from looking like an owl, a half-bird, and a humanoid creature.
It was going to be his hidden spy that-
As he was about to finish its changes, the door to his shop opened as the bell jingled.
The mage looked up from his work and noticed a young man looking somewhat desperate.
He gave the young man a quick scan, old wore-out clothes with subtly hidden patches in them, dark circles around his eyes, and was unnaturally skinny.
A person who had fallen to hard times, a perfect customer to test something with~.
"Why, hello there. How may I help you?"
Alex greeted the man with a business smile.
The young man looked at the price tags and sighed at some intimidating yet heavy armor prices.
For a brief moment, in the man's eyes, the shopkeeper was something menacing for a moment before looking like a black-haired youth once more.
Thanks to several days of lack of sleep, the customer shook his head, trying to clear it.
Before making his way to Alex, the man hesitantly asked.
"Do you have any durable and light for a mage? Or cheaper gear?"
The young man replied, looking quite forlorn.
The last part was a whisper, but Alex ignored it while further confirming to use this young man for his long-awaited project.
After all, such a W̸̡̡̰͇̮͇̦̻̤̼̱͋̀̐͛͋̆̿͆̓i̷̱͓̖͇͊̓͌̂̈́̍͑̈́͛̂̔̚͠L̶͚̤̃̐͜l̷̜̗̻̟̝͔̺̝̮̟̭̘͖̼̬̔̐͆͆̀̾͆̋̽͋͒̌̿͌̒̕͠Ḭ̸̇͊͑̋̓͝ņ̸͚̹̰͙̱̝̺͖̻̦̱̥͎͐͛̒̇̏́G̶͇̝̻͓͓͊̍̒́̏̒̚͝ customer was hard to come by.
"You are looking at some of them, but I think you'll need something to support you rather than protect you."
The young man looked at Alex in confusion before shaking his head and freezing at his following words.
"Having a single F-rank skill called mana bolt can only do so much."
The man grumbled before asking cautiously.
"I'm sorry, I seemed to have failed in catching your name; I'm Milch Dalton, and you are?"
Milch looked at Alex suspiciously.
He was already preparing a spell to fire at the shopkeeper while making a glance toward the entrance should things go south.
"I am Alex Silva, the shopkeeper and-"
Alex summoned a mana bolt to the tip of his finger before having it fly around him at incredible speeds.
"A former mage with similar skills~."
Milch's eyes widened at his show of control over the skill.
It wasn't really a mana bolt from this world but one from his character's world, and he only knew the person's details due to the magical effect he added to the interior of his shop.
The man felt that Alex was relatable due to having the same skill.
At least, that's what Milch assumed to be the case.
Two items were placed on the shop counter as the strange feeling they gave off drew Milch's curiosity.
One of them was a bracer, with the other being a belt.
Milch was so intrigued that his hands were already reaching out to the bracer.
"The two of them are worth fifty silver for you because I'll need a favor from you."
Milch's hand froze mid-way into touching the bracer as he grits his teeth.
"Sorry, I can't afford that."
As an F-rank skill user, it was hard for the young man to make money, even more so when two of his siblings depended on him.
One of them was too young, while the other suffered from a troublesome disease caused by mana saturation.
He'd have to venture into the same ranked dungeon several times just to earn something worthwhile.
Milch can handle the regular goblin's dungeon but not without some injury, as those green bastards can be meticulous with their traps that could cripple any hasty fool that didn't keep his head on a swivel.
He sighed once again, feeling helpless.
But Alex's following words were strange to him.
"Don't worry. You can pay me when you come back to buy more stuff. B̛̙̙͉̬̦̻̾͛̕͟ḛ̡̰̳͓̥ͬ͋ͪͧs̨̞̞̰͎͎̪̩͕̈́̀ͯ̍ͧͅi̧̻̻͉̜͑ͪ̾͟d̶̵̯̯̼̘ͨ̓ḛ̡̰̳͓̥ͬ͋ͪͧs̨̞̞̰͎͎̪̩͕̈́̀ͯ̍ͧͅ, t͖͖̠̬͛h̨͚͚͖ͯ̒̄͗͞ḛ̡̰̳͓̥ͬ͋ͪͧ t͖͖̠̬͛w̡̻̻̣͚̒̀ͅo͙͙̙̘̙ͤͫ͞ i̧̻̻͉̜͑ͪ̾͟t͖͖̠̬͛ḛ̡̰̳͓̥ͬ͋ͪͧm̰̰̹͚̙̂ͦ͗͠s̨̞̞̰͎͎̪̩͕̈́̀ͯ̍ͧͅ w̡̻̻̣͚̒̀ͅo͙͙̙̘̙ͤͫ͞ụ̴̴̾̀͟͡l͖͖̰̝ͭ̀͘d̶̵̯̯̼̘ͨ̓ ṛ̣̬̫̍͌ͩ͟ḛ̡̰̳͓̥ͬ͋ͪͧt͖͖̠̬͛ụ̴̴̾̀͟͡ṛ̣̬̫̍͌ͩ͟n̫̫̘̗͕̲̲̎ͥ t͖͖̠̬͛o͙͙̙̘̙ͤͫ͞ m̰̰̹͚̙̂ͦ͗͠ḛ̡̰̳͓̥ͬ͋ͪͧ s̨̞̞̰͎͎̪̩͕̈́̀ͯ̍ͧͅh̨͚͚͖ͯ̒̄͗͞o͙͙̙̘̙ͤͫ͞ụ̴̴̾̀͟͡l͖͖̰̝ͭ̀͘d̶̵̯̯̼̘ͨ̓ y͙͙̪̰ͫ͌́o͙͙̙̘̙ͤͫ͞ụ̴̴̾̀͟͡ d̶̵̯̯̼̘ͨ̓ḛ̡̰̳͓̥ͬ͋ͪͧc̨̨̣̮̝̈́̔ͯ̀͂i̧̻̻͉̜͑ͪ̾͟d̶̵̯̯̼̘ͨ̓ḛ̡̰̳͓̥ͬ͋ͪͧ o͙͙̙̘̙ͤͫ͞t͖͖̠̬͛h̨͚͚͖ͯ̒̄͗͞ḛ̡̰̳͓̥ͬ͋ͪͧṛ̣̬̫̍͌ͩ͟w̡̻̻̣͚̒̀ͅi̧̻̻͉̜͑ͪ̾͟s̨̞̞̰͎͎̪̩͕̈́̀ͯ̍ͧͅḛ̡̰̳͓̥ͬ͋ͪͧ~."
Milch blinked in confusion, unable to hear the latter half of the sentence, but Alex continued.
"Let me begin the explanation for these two items. The bracer is called Banshee's cry."
The name itself was disturbing yet intriguing simultaneously, making him forget about the strangeness from earlier.
Alex continued his explanation.
"When used, other than those designated as allies, everything else within a diameter of a hundred meters will freeze for 5 seconds, it also has an Auto block effect, so while casting or staying still, it will block up to seven hits on its own every 45 minutes."
Milch wet his lips in wonder but suppressed his excitement as there was one more item.
"The belt is called Aldia's greed. It would passively collect mana into the wearer, but you can only collect it every hour to fuel your skill, but should you decide not to use it and continue to let it collect, two more effects will be available to you."
Milch's eyes were locked onto the belt like a hawk's, trying to resist grabbing it and rushing out of the shop, but he was sensible enough to control himself and wait to hear the two extra effects.
"The first effect will triple the effect of a single skill for one charge, while the second was a life-saving effect. It can accelerate the thoughts and reactions of the wearer whenever an attack is about to hit within 10 seconds. Giving the wearer the opening to do whatever they want within that timeframe. However, activating either effect can weaken you for a few days, so beware when using it."
Milch gulped in wonder, trying to grasp the idea of having such items as he ventured into a dungeon.
He'd be able to clear it by himself!
"I'll take them and whatever favor you need of me!"
Milch was desperate.
He had bills to pay and a couple of siblings relying on him, with one of them currently in a hospital-.
Thinking about why his older sister was in the hospital, Milch gave Alex a long stare before putting down the belt and asking.
"Do you have anything for mana diseases?"
Alex's answer made him wince at first.
"No-"
Milch's shoulders slumped in defeat, only for his hopes to rise up high from his next words.
"-But I can make some for another favor."
Milch quickly nodded while agreeing to it, not fearing that the favor might bring him trouble or his possible demise.
"Good. My first favor is this, continue to buy from my shop."
He said this while tapping on the counter with a smile.
The first requirement was simple, to which Milch nodded in agreement.
"At the same time, my second favor from you will be selling to my shop."
Milch was a bit worried as most shops only paid so much for what he hunted, but that thought was short-circuited at the shopkeeper's following words.
"Mind you, I'll pay triple the market price for monster carcasses in good shape. So remember, you have three months to pay me back, or you'll lose ownership over those two items!"
Milch was pretty damn happy to hear that!
He nearly cried out in joy!
The man was already considering Alex a blessing for him and his siblings, and he was trying to fight back a tear.
Milch also fought back the urge to hug the man... no homo.
Deadline of 20 gold coins debt from loan sharks in two weeks.
Milch's sister is about to be removed from the hospital because he cannot pay for her treatment.
Should that ever happen, that was a death sentence for her.
Strange yet Cheap equipment that did precisely what Alex said it would do when he scanned them with his hunter's watch.
He was also willing to pay a pretty penny for carcasses in good condition, so why wouldn't he be happy?
Milch had a tool that could store up to a hundred goblin corpses.
A single goblin corpse was worth 35 copper, so it'd be a single silver from Alex as the currency was 100 copper to 1 silver, 100 silver to 1 gold, and 100 gold to one platinum coin.
Milch can handle doing the goblin's den up to seven times, given there were no accidents and with the passive effect of the belt, the man could do more.
Milch repeatedly thanked Alex before running out of the store, failing to notice the grin on Alex's face as he left.
—-----------------------
With a mischievous smirk, The shopkeeper tried his best not to laugh out loud in joy as the young man left.
Gold was easy for him to make, so it'd be easy for him to pay even higher for the corpses, but any more than that would be suspicious.
More importantly, One of his projects is finally getting a field run~.
Ah, he never gets tired of t͖͖̠̬͛ṛ̣̬̫̍͌ͩ͟i̧̻̻͉̜͑ͪ̾͟c̨̨̣̮̝̈́̔ͯ̀͂k̼̼̞̦̞̼̔i̧̻̻͉̜͑ͪ̾͟n̫̫̘̗͕̲̲̎ͥg̬̬̱ͩ͋͟͟ people.
Alex was using Milch as a test subject for his recent idea.
It was an effect called monsterization.
The wearer of a particular item would gradually lose their humanity in exchange for power.
Can his monster slowly change a person?
The skills were real, but the price the user would pay was much steeper than weakening for three days.
The weakening part was due to the effect requiring the host's energy while disguising the cost as something from the 'skill' of the equipped item.
If Milch uses the belt more than 12 times within a year, the belt will gradually turn him into a loyal monster Alex owns.
A duty-bound brother that was trying to make a living and provide for his siblings, this was the perfect subject for the other part of the experiment~.
Alex wanted to test the human body's resistance in this world for future plans.
Will his mind remain after the change? or will it become broken from despair?
Oh, how he loves his job!
He also gave the man such deals because, as an Archdoppelganger, Alex could read minds and had lesser empathic abilities.
So he knew of the man's predicament.
Should the human resist the effects and survive the change, Alex would provide the boy with more support since such resistant specimens were hard to find.
Because subjects that could resist could provide some incredible results.
The extra payment was to lure him to the shop and keep an eye on the man's progressive change while taking advantage of the human's greed.
As for Milch's older sister, Alex was already creating a specific parasite that would absorb mana diseases as a syringe.
The target had to be stabbed in an area close to the lower abdomen for 10 seconds.
Ah, ~ Alex was genuinely looking forward to the experiment's results!
Who knows? Maybe the boy would bring more 'willing' test subjects to join in his experiments~.
