Chapter 42

SARA

I don't know what was happening to Gabriela with that guy, or well, I get an idea of what was happening to her, and if there's one thing that's clear to me, it's Paula won't like it at all. It was clear to me I'm not going to go to class, it was the only time I could talk to Gabriela without Clara or Marcos getting in the middle of the conversation or preventing me from talking to her. 

I was waiting for her to get to class and when she finally shows up, she comes with the asshole who broke my cousin's heart because of my "best friend" and they seemed like they were having a good time. As soon as the asshole leaves, I quickly walk over to Gabriela and grab her arm before she goes into class. 

"What are you doing?" Gabriela asked annoyed. "We have to talk about a couple of things, you and me." I said simply, because there were thousands of things I wasn't understanding, and Paula would probably like to know. 

"I have class." She snorted "That's the least of it right now, we're going to talk whether you want to or not." I answered and she rolled her eyes "About what, if I may know?" asked "That asshole." I said and I'm completely sure she didn't have a good face when I said it, I think that's why she had left in the morning, even though Marcos made up what he made up about her not sleeping well, because she didn't look bad tempered as would be normal. We went down to the patio and sat in the sun, mostly because it was what Gabriela wanted fixedly, I settled down and thought for a couple of seconds how I would start by asking Gabriela. 

"May I know what's wrong with Alex?" she asked "I should ask you that, don't you think?" I inquired even though I didn't really care for her "Why?" Gabriela questioned "You get along with him for a couple of weeks despite everything he did to you." 

"You don't even know what he did to me" She answered, and what she didn't know, is I know what happened and it had all been because of my cousin, but that was because she had taken away the boy she liked and I didn't like that one bit. 

"Oh, of course I know, he was picking on you." I assured, "That's not even half the story." She responded defensively, "Oh, what did anything worse than that do to you?" I asked as if I didn't know what she was talking about. "Sara, you're paranoid, leave it alone." she asked after taking a deep breath. "I won't let it, Gabriela. I won't let him hurt you again." 

"He won't hurt me, he loves me." Gabriela assured and I denied, because the one he loved was my cousin, not her, but Alex always insisted on going with her. "He said that same thing once and look what happened between you." 

"We were young, what does it matter to you what happens to me with him? I will end up doing what I want, that is what my life is for and I will live it the way I want." She responded, annoyed, and if it had been any other time, I would have rolled my eyes. "I don't understand what you see in him, Gabriela, to be honest." 

"And it's something you don't really care about, because to criticize it I prefer not to talk about it." She said, starting to get up, but I stopped her before she could do so. "You're in love with him, aren't you?" 

"So, what if I am? "It's my problem." she assured "But after everything he did to you it doesn't make sense." I said even though it wasn't true, because Gabriela wasn't exactly the most intelligent person. "It won't have it for you, but I love him and I can't do anything against that. And for your information, he loves me too, he has changed." 

"That's because you say so." I snorted "And are you going to tell me? You don't know him at all, much less before, you can't talk about what you don't know." she countered and I shrugged. "Maybe not, but people don't change easily." 

"He had eight years to change, and he did. Do you really think if Marcos and Carlota hadn't seen Alex changed, would let me get close to him? Do you really think that?" she asked without believing it. "I don't know what to think, Gabriela, to be honest. That guy may be a magician of deception." I assured her and she denied, "It's not, I'll tell you that." 

"Okay, then explain to me what it is like if you're so in love with that guy and you're not with him." I asked, "Because it's not easy." She responded, taking a deep breath. "Then you don't trust him or believe him." I confirmed, "Yes, I believe him, I don't know what's wrong with you, Sara." 

"There's nothing wrong with me, but don't think I'm going to get along with him well, because I'm not going to." I assured her, "If you gave yourself the opportunity to meet him, you would realize everything he says is true. Even Carlota realized that and she has known him longer than you." 

"But both Carlota and Marcos will do whatever it takes to make you happy, even if that guy wants to hurt you again." I said, "They wouldn't allow it, never. They trust me, not like you. " 

"Of course, I trust you, but it's not the same, they play with an advantage I don't have." It wasn't entirely true, but that was something she didn't know and she wouldn't know at least for the moment. "Well, because of that advantage you have, you should get to know Alex, so you will understand how he is and that what he says is true." 

"I've never seen you like this with a boy." I said after a few seconds in silence "It could be because there's no one who makes me feel like Alex." She responded, "Look, this time I'm going to trust everything he says, but the slightest chance this bastard makes you feel bad, he'll deal with me and you won't be able to do anything to avoid it." 

"Alex isn't going to do anything to me." Gabriela assured, "We'll see about that." I murmured, but apparently, she had heard me, "Well, I'm going to class, I don't want to miss any more classes." She said, getting up. "Okay, I have to go to class too." 

We said goodbye and each of us went to our classes. As soon as I get out of class, I would call Paula to tell her what I discovered and hope she wouldn't get too angry her toy was after Gabriela again.
