Imitation Mutation

[IM] was short for a deadly virus called Imitation Mutation that killed off 80% of the world's population in 2038 during the first few weeks. When the outbreak of the virus happened, countries border closed, safe zones and quarantine areas were established but they still couldn't manage to curb the virus. The virus [IM] was able to completely mutate and take control over a human's body. Turning them cannibalistic and brain dead along with making humans into monsters with insane strengths and powers that were created from the host's fears. These monsters were called mutates. However, the possibilities of [IM] mutating a human was 35%, which is a lower percentage of humans dying a few hours after contracting the disease. 0.4% of mutates can turn out to be a special case where the hosts still have complete control of themselves even after receiving the effects of the mutation. Zephyr was a special case of mutates that was being kept as a prisoner along with many others. To protect himself, he hid himself away in the void, hopelessly waiting for the day to break free. Finding himself a new 'home' to stay in, he attempts to neglect his past and fixate on the present. However, it seems like fate bears a strong hatred for Zephyr. Revenge, disgust and death followed him wherever he went.

Chapter 4

"Zephyr..Zephyr. You don't ever learn do you?" Dion said with a disappointed look on his face as he looked down on the boy who was covered with bruises.

"I don't know anything.. please." I weep and whimper. The past few hours seemed like a blur to me, he kept asking me a question but what was it..? I can't seem to remember.

"Describe me the people you saw." Dion requested in a strict tone. He folded his sleeves up and proceeded to grab a needle from the set of items on the table beside me.

I was on the same chair I had awoken earlier in. This time with more restraints, layers and layers of chains were tied around my waist and chest. It was as if I was a bomb that could explode at any given moment. I attempted to move my hands but I couldn't move even an inch of my body from my head to my toes.

"Zephyr." He said, sounding extremely desperate, it almost sounded as if he was on the verge of tears.

"I'm scared, I really am. I don't know what you're talking about. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Forgive me please. I..don't..know." My whole body was quivering in fear. My mind was in a mess as it kept flashing unfamiliar scenes of Dion repeatedly asking the same question with different methods.

It felt like I was slowly destructing myself into madness. Everything seemed so unfamiliar yet I felt like I had went through these events before. What happened? How did it happen? When did it happen? Why don't I know?

Suddenly, I felt a needle being stabbed into my neck. It hurts it really does. Why is he doing this? I don't know what he's asking for, I begged him for forgiveness but he keeps repeating strange sentences saying that I knew. What did I know?

"Argh" I groaned when my head felt like it was being pierced by a sharp blade.

"Zephyr, described to me and I'll forgive you immediately. I really will, I don't want to do this at all. All will be forgiven if you tell me what you know." Dion begged me with a desperate look on his face while he held my hands gently.

"The female.. she had black hair. She told me that she has a hearing power that will allow her to hear around her to a certain radius." I said suddenly, it felt like everything was coming back to me slowly.

"That wasn't so hard was it Zephyr? Tell me more." Dion said with a smile, putting down his instruments of torture as he pressed for more information.

I kept quiet for a while as my mind went blank. I couldn't think of anything but I don't want to be jabbed by needles again. The parts of my body that was being stabbed felt like it was being lit on fire.

"Hurts doesn't it?" Dion asked when he saw my face twisted in pain. Strangely, he almost looked pleased with himself.

"I really don't know anymore!" I said, trying to recall my memories. Anything will do even if it seems useless, I don't like being cornered like this. I hate it, it hurts. I didn't want this to happen.

Dion glared down at me and after a while, he sighed when he saw my face covered in tears and showed me a warm tender smile. He took out his phone from his coat and pocket and called the security guards in.

"It's alright now, Zephyr. I'm sorry for being so harsh, it needed to be done, don't you think?" he asked with a smile while he took out a box from the drawer. He opened it revealing a syringe that was filled with bubbling red liquid.

"I wouldn't do this injection if I had an option, but I have to make sure you don't cause anymore trouble in the near future. I don't usually give you doses like these as they drain you extremely much so but I need you to be on your best behaviour." Dion explained, pressing the syringe a little to get the liquid out.

"Please wait and I'll be done in a second." Dion said to the guards who stood on standby that looked the most nervous they had ever been. Their hands placed on their waist belt where their tasers and guns are stored.

In a second, the injection was done smoothly while Dion started releasing me by unlocking the chains on my body. He didn't bother putting any hand cuffs on me while he walked away and gestured the guards to take me.

"I've also placed back the microchip you lost. Keep it safe Zephyr." Dion reminded.

"Take the kid to his new lab room." The guards communicated, two guards held my arm tightly while they gestured for me to keep moving up endless roles of stairs and finally reaching a floor where the walls were built with a thick layer of metal.

The guards came to a halt and unlocked one of the metal doors with a pass code and gave me a glance and nodded. I reluctantly walked inside my new room and when I turned back, the metal door slammed with a loud thud.

I was back to square one but with more security. I immediately took a seat on my plain white bed as I felt that my legs were going to give up on me sooner or later. Without even realising it, tears were slowly flowing down my face.

I should've not been caught in the first place. If I had went back to their headquarters with them I would've not suffered all this. However those are just measly little 'if's' they meant nothing at all.

When will I ever get out? I'm scared. They'll start to chain me up and beat me just because I don't tell them anything. I don't want it to happen again.

Why must this happen to me just because I survived the mutation? I never asked for this. I should've died along with my family.

I leaned on the headrest while I stared blankly at the metal walls while my mind crumbled and self destruct itself to keep 'me' intact.

"When will you take over and let me rest?"
