Garrett sat down and half tuned out the general as he looked at his stats while also paying attention. The general of course was going on about how their vehicles would be used only for emergencies to avoid detection and how his squad with the freshest troops and gear will be sent out for scouting and supply runs.
Garrett expected it and simply nods while confirming that he and his squad will be more than happy to do such activities.
He even thinks about how this will help him out with his needs for store points and make sure he keeps his growth going.
With that the General tells him how this zombie invasion suddenly sprung up out of the blue nearly 4 days ago. Okay so about a day before I went to party and relax and the night I took that green pill. So this might be something planned or well hidden. Garrett thought to himself.
The General says there are outposts and survivor camps like theirs spead all across the U.S. and so far people are holding strong. But everyone needs supplies and troops so all they can do is whittle away at the zombies in each town and city until they either finish them all off or until the zombie decompose enough to simply die on their own.
Garrett nods and asks if a cause has been found.
The General looks hesitant but slowly shakes his head. Garrett notices but doesn't comment. No point in getting on the generals bad side when they need this base and the chance to do some good for these poor survivors.
The police chief tells him to check the police station first for more survivors, ammo, and supplies as he and his men ran with what they could carry in their packs and cars before being overwhelmed in the station.
Garrett nods and makes a plan to raid food and clothing stores on the way to ensure supplies last longer than normal. And to keep an eye out for spare trucks and maybe an APC for future hordes and rescue missions. And for one they have secured more people.
He nods and gets up with a simple question, "Anything else?"
With no one else saying anything he nods and goes, "Then my men and I will prepare for the police station. Thankfully it is still early and the police station is only about a mile or two from here right?"
The chief nods and explains the path to take which Garrett nods to him back and heads off to tell his men to suit up, "Then we leave in an hour after a bit more rest and to ensure we are fully stocked on ammo and supplies."
With confirmations from the heads of this camp Garrett leaves. But not without a small grin as he is looking forward to harvesting points on his way to the station and on his way back.
He lets his men know and they all nod and agree that this is important to support this group and increase their chances of survival.
With every one going off to prep Garrett is left to think. He gets stats from mutants, and he gets points from zombies. Now he knows he can't handle a horde himself. but maybe he could find a building stuffed with zombies and figure out how to end them one by one by guarding the door and luring them out bit by bit with the crossbow doing its job of silent kills to make sure he doesn't draw too many of them at once.
As he strategized he also checked the game and anime universe tabs in the shop. He saw Dragon Quest, Bioshock, Half Life, Bleach, Naruto, Dragonball, so on.
But what grabbed his attention is how the dragon quest universe items were very interesting to him. They had no durability limit. It looks like they were nearly indestructible just like in game how you can have them equipped in game for who knows how many fights and you just keep them until you upgrade the gear. He pulls out his knife to see that he is indeed seeing chips, a small crack and the dullness is setting in.
He glances at the Dragon quest knife and sees the basic iron one is a solid 1,000 coins and no durability on it. He makes that his first target. Then checks the other knives. he ignores poison and mind affecting knives as zombies don't have fully functions immune systems or brains to actually affect with those status debuffs. He sees the top three knives.
The Metal king dagger costs 1,000,000 points (Ack!).
The Heroes dagger costs 1,500,000 points (Good gravy!).
And the Dynamo Dagger costs 3,000,000 points (Okay that is ridiculous!).
He hums as he checks the iron dagger and makes a vow to start from the base and work his way up. Maybe grab one of the swords while he is at it. It will set him back about 30 stat points, but it is easier to grind points against zombies when you can actually fight without worry about your weapon.
He goes on to see how his men are fairing with their preparations when he sees them coming towards him. He grins at seeing them all in their full fatigues, each with a backpack that only has some food and ammo. He nods his head to each one as they prepare to tackle the supply run mission ahead.
They all go to the front where a pair of Swat team members are and they wait for them to remove the metal locking mechanisms of the doors to get out.
After that is done they all head out and wait just outside in scanning positions while they re-lock the doors.
With the final clank heard behind them they all nod to each other and begin to do a man by man scouting formation. A main party of three, one person scouting 75ft ahead, and a person bringing up the rear from about 50ft behind.
They only need two miles but they want to be ready for anything around all these blocks of business buildings they need to navigate.
Soon enough after a solid half mile of travel, they go to one of the blocks with a three story building in on it that used to be a hotel it looks like and begin to move onward when Garrett notices a holographic exclamation mark at the entrance. He stops the squad and taps it.
Tomoe and Hicks notice him do it and wait by him to keep his back covered while they recall Mboto and Marina to their position.
He taps it open and sees, Congratulations! You are the first player to discover a Dungeon! It is a level 1 challenge rating but comes with a reward for clearing it! On top of all points you gain from hunting the zombies within you get 1,000 bonus points, and +1 to all stats upon clearing!
Garrett Grins and relays what he just read to his squad. He makes a decision and says, "Stay out here in sniper positions on the rooftops around this building, while I clear this dungeon you all make sure we are not interrupted or attacked by a horde or by raiders, understood?"
The squad goes, "Understood sir!" But Hicks can't help but worry, "You sure you'll be fine by yourself sir? Its a whole three floors of a dungeon... it might follow th evideogame situation of brining harder and harder to beat zombies out."
Garrett considers this piece of caution and nods to himself, "Indeed, but remember you all need another 2 days minimum until your stats are available, so I need to stock up as many items for stats and weapons as I can from my store to outfit us all in the mean time... So let me do this for the squad. And just so you know. You are all important to me. Let me help you out in this world by being the man you followed into those skirmishes against that terrorist group. I will return."
They all nod and go to pick out spots to watch over the dungeon while Garrett readies himself to enter.
He huffs and then goes, "In we go."
Before entering and hearing the chime and warning that, You have entered the beginners dungeon level 3! Prepare for zombie opponents of average stat ranking of 25-35.
He stops as the entrance closes and locks behind him, "Wait... my ranking of stats? Oh shit."
