The words that came out of Kol brought joy to Nicole's heart, and she blushed. But the realization came just as fast, and her joy turned to anger.
"Why?" she whispers to herself hiding her rage.
"What?" Kol says only hearing her mumble.
Then all of a sudden, he could feel pain from the right side of his face as he was pushed back. Nicole with her fists out.
[HP 6/7]
"oww!" Kol Screams "What was that for?"
The immediate embrace of Nicole made Kol stop screaming. It was unusual for Nicole to be like this but Kol comforts her. In Kol's mind, his confession would eventually ruin their friendship and this might be why Nicole is acting this way. The realization that Kol would no longer be her friend, that Kol would change from his usual self because of this and she might start to avoid Kol. Kol already accepted his rejection but he understands her fear of not being friends anymore, after all the last 5 years were an amazing and joyous time for Kol with Nicole. Never would Kol imagine the words he would hear from her.
"I like you too." She says pulling from her embrace.
Stunned from her words Kol's mind goes blank.
"I've liked you way before, but I'm mad that it took me leaving for 4 years for you to confess." She says as she lets go of Kol giving him a little distance. Thinking about the words she just said she could've confessed earlier instead of waiting for Kol but out of fear of being rejected won and she wouldn't know what to do if Kol started avoiding her as well. Hanging out every day and having fun around the town was more than enough for her.
"Starting tomorrow I won't be here anymore. Only after 4 years will I come back. Wait for me until then." She says standing up from the cliffside.
Kol still thinking blankly just imitated her and stood as well.
"Until I come back, we're gonna do our best to be great Wizards."
Hearing her words that she felt the same brought a sense of regret to Kol, he could've told her sooner and would've enjoyed the years as a couple. Looking at her all energetic and fired up completely erased Kol's regret and instead filled his mind with inspiration.
"Yeah, you're right," Kol says removing his hand from his red right cheek.
The bright orange leaves in the sky glares at both of them as it Is about to set.
"I have to go and get ready for tomorrow. This isn't goodbye alright." She says as she takes the initiative this time to hug Kol one last time.
Her words are like daggers to Kol's heart as they would now part ways just after confessing to each other.
But he hugs her more tightly nonetheless.
"I'm gonna miss you Nic," Kol says softly into her ear.
Blushing. "I know you won't. Besides you've already seen me naked." She pulls back.
Kol blushes as the thought comes rushing back into his head. She was changing that afternoon after a day at the beach and Kol suddenly walked in on her. He could picture her clearly her curves and red hair as she screamed and through a towel at Kol closing the door.
"I'll see you soon. Make sure you go speak with Rosseler tomorrow." Nicole says as she starts walking back. Seeing Kol's blank look brought amusement to her face. It wasn't always that she could see him like this. He always acted mature even for his age and reading a lot of books didn't give him a lot of things to be childing about especially compared to the other kids in the orphanage but he never denied a request from Nicole every time she invited him to play. Thinking back after what Kol said she now knows why he couldn't say no to her, which made her face redder. She wanted to spend more time with him but she knew this was the best because she might just ask her dad to cancel her enrollment and stay here with Kol, but she wouldn't like that. Being a wizard was her dream and she isn't ready to give that up, in fact in light of what happened she is more motivated now than ever.
Seeing her leave brought sadness but a new spark of inspiration as well. Just wait Nicole I'll be a great wizard one day enough to stand by you. Kol thinks to himself. He is greeted with the cold breeze that the sea brings at night.
Kol hurries back to the orphanage just beside the library where he was earlier this morning. The lights are all lit from the ground floor to the second. He could hear the kids inside kids inside making noise. It's probably supper, as he thinks to himself. A lot of the neighbors would scold and shu the kids away whenever they plan to close or too loudly near their property, Kol never liked those neighbors. Even though the kids were loud and would sometimes interrupt his reading time he never thought of them as pests but instead guided them in playing or teaching them new things that he learned from reading, acting like a big brother to the kids.
As he walked in, he was greeted by the sister Bea, she acted as the caretaker of all the orphans and would be treated like a mother to some of them, especially Kol.
"Kol! Good to see you, come in supper is ready." She says as she sets the table. "Kids make some room for Kol."
Some of the kids move apart making a small space for Kol to squeeze into."So, Kol I hear Nicole will be leaving for the academy tomorrow." One of the kids who was 12 years old says, his name was Raff.
"Ooh. Does that mean Kol would have more time for me?" one of the little girls sitting cross the table says.
"Good for her if she wants to become a wizard," Bea says passing the food across the table to one of the kids.
"Bea I'm going to see Rosseler tomorrow," Kols says looking at Bea.
Bea didn't look disappointed but instead smiled at the thought. Not every orphan gets adopted it was really rare even for the young ones. Hearing Kol decide to become a wizard move up from his life as an orphan and soon make a name for himself, filled Bea with tears. No mother would want to hinder her child from his dreams, and Bea was exactly that. A mother.
"of course, Kol." She says as she passes the food to Kol.
"Are you gonna be a wizard too, Kol?" another girl beside him spoke her name was Angel.
"I will do my best," Kol says with a smile as he looks at her.
"If that is what you want Kol then please have this." Bea stands and walks towards one of the cabinets behind her. Kol knew every inch of this house and he knew that's the medicine cabinet she just opened.
Pushing some bottles aside she grabs what looks to be a scroll tied with a white ribbon sealed with wax. She hands it to Kol as she sits back down to finish her meal.
"You might not have the aptitude to cast white spells, that is why I'm giving this to you as a gift," Bea says.
Every kid on the table is now staring at Kol holding the scroll.
"I made this scroll and infused it with white mana so the spell will automatically active after reading the incantation." She says. "I pray you won't need it but it is better to be safe. It is a scroll of the spell 'Mend injury."
"Thank you, Bea," Kol says as he thinks about his curse and how this would hopefully prevent it from triggering.
