Chapter 16: Monsters

Well, lots of things have happened over these past few days. I went monster hunting with Miria to learn about their behavior, I practised the sword techniques that I read about in the book, and I was able to copy every map I found in the Adventurer's Guild, including the world map.

The world is split into 4 different continents. Out of the 4, only 2 are actually controlled by humans. One of them is controlled by the demi-humans while the other one is controlled by the demons.

The continent where Vulcan is located, and also the continent where I live on is the Kragstelo Continent. The other ones are called the Jekiro Continent, the Anteo Continent, and the Deroman Continent.

What really interested me was that the demons actually negotiated peace with the humans and the demi-humans around 500 years ago. It is not like I hate all of the demons. I only hated the tyrannical Demon King because of what he did.

Anyway, the last bit of information that I learned was that mother was hired by the local school as a teacher for the noble who is coming here. At first, I didn't really know why because she just looked like an ordinary person but, I guess I was wrong.

Also, today should be my 5th birthday. We didn't celebrate it yet because you only celebrate them at night time.

That is why, right now, I am heading towards the Adventurer's Guild to finally read some books about monsters and the Divine Beasts. I have some real life experience when I was hunting with Miria but, it doesn't hurt to read about them as well.

I was so busy doing all of those things that I forgot to do research on my targets: the Divine Beasts.

That is why I will make up for it by reading a lot.

While thinking that, there were a few knights talking about something. A light drizzle also started happening right now. So, it is going to start raining today?

Author's Note: Rowan's Point of View

I just got word from some advance guards.

It looks like the noble person will be arriving today in the afternoon. I also finally learned who this noble is. According to the guards, the noble is the daughter of Duke Roscelto. Even I know who he is. His fame and influence can be used almost everywhere.

I will have to gather all of the villagers to greet her when she arrives. I hope she doesn't act like a conceited noble who only cares about themselves.

That reminds me, a few days ago, Alex told me that he wants to practise other sword techniques. When I asked him where he learned them, he told me that he found their names in a book at the Adventurer's Guild.

Really.

That boy is going to become something great in the future. I mean, who would think otherwise? He is working hard during our exercises, he reads books in the Adventurer's Guild, he even has parents that are good at what they do. And I mean REALLY good at what they do.

I just wish that he would give himself a break and act and play like a kid his age should. But, if he wants to do what he wants to do, I will support him with everything I have.

I have finally reached the Guild after walking for 10 minutes. I do the usual procedure and walk up the stairs to the book room after giving the receptionist another 15 Silver Coins.

Ah, yes.

It is now time for you to tell me all of your secrets regarding monsters and the Divine Beasts. Let's start with the monsters first. I want to save the Divine Beasts for last.

This is just the book I was looking for! It should contain information that could be very useful. Also, I should focus mainly on monsters that I have not seen before yet. That means, no Goblins, no Pliabugs, and no Scorchers.

'The Ember Chick is a relatively weak E-rank monster whose only form of attack is scattering small embers on whatever is around it. These embers aren't particularly hot and won't affect people who are wearing steel armor. They also can not fly because their wings are far too short to allow flight. However, they are targets for extermination because they can evolve into a Flamewing. Flamewings are an average D-rank monster that is basically the same as an Ember Chick, except that it has gained the ability to fly and can do wide-range flame attacks that are significantly hotter. The Flamewing also has a very rare, elder form. The Moltenwing. They are a strong C-rank monster that has only been encountered a few times. They have abilities far surpassing a regular Flamewing and display some kind of sentience. Moltenwings are also one of only 2 monster species that live near Vulcan that has an elder form. The other is the Fireclaw, though it is still in question."

"The Fireclaw is a bear-shaped monster that is considered weak amongst C-rank monsters. They primarily live near volcanoes because the land near volcanoes are usually fertile. They are incredibly rare, unlike the Ember Chicks, and can shoot fireballs from its claws, hence its name. According to some reports, it has an alleged elder form called a Forgeclaw. The people who gave these reports say that it is much bigger than a Fireclaw and has metal covering its entire body. The existence of the Forgeclaw is still highly debated about among monster experts."
