(The day after the concert)
"Mrs. Yang, your son-in-law is waiting for you downstairs."
"Is he with my daughter now?"
"Miss Meixiu is still in the kitchen."
"Is that so? My son-in-law? What could be his motive?"
Yang Sora stood up and rushed to the door, and as soon as she opened it, she saw Chaoxiang waiting for her. He is sitting at their sofa, he is keeping himself from bursting to anger for it's Sora's lie that made his issue with his wife worse up to the point that he hurt Heiran and drove him away from his apartment.
"What brings you here my son-in-law?"
"You lied to me and said you talked to Meixiu that night. Why did you..."
"I was about to. I was supposed to knock on your door but from your doorstep, I can hear my daughter tuning the guitar. Since college, I was aware of her perfect pitch but I never had the chance to witness it. That was the only time, and I became so proud."
"And you didn't talk to her because of that? That shallow?"
Both of them paused and gasped for air. In Yang Sora's thoughts, she is thinking that it is shouldn't be an issue. Whether she lied to him or not, it'll never cause anything bad, especially to his relationship with Meixiu. On the other hand, Chaoxiang thinks he could've stopped himself, respited himself from hurting Meixiu if only her mother never lied to him.
"I am not being shallow here. I would pay a million dollar just to see my daughter performing again. It's a thing that she hasn't been doing for such a long time. You would never understand me because you don't know your wife the way I do."
"So this is about me now?"
"This is all about you. It is also your issue that brought you here."
"Your fake daughter and I will never ever be on the same page. Why did you force this wedding to push through?"
"Would there be any difference if it's Meixiu and not Suyin?"
"Meixiu is the reason why Suyin left the country for so many years. Basically, what Meixiu and I have are just coincidence, if not it's all manipulated. Do you expect us to fall in love with each other if we just met by accident?"
"Lower your voice."
"Why would I? Does it hurt your ego so bad if I say I will never have any chance to fall in love with your fake daughter?"
"Mom, I already got all the things I need. I'll take my flute with me."
And Chaoxiang's eyes diffused after seeing Meixiu coming out from the Yang family's kitchen. The woman seems shocked in seeing him although she has been eavesdropping to their conversation too much. Also, she attended his concert last night but seeing him now, not as her idol but her husband is a different thing. So instead of saying anything, she just walked pass the both of them and nonchalantly ignore their conversation.
"Are you going back to the office?", her mother asked.
"Yes mom."
"Your husband is here. Would you like him to take you there?"
In all honesty, her heart has already turned numb after hearing too much. Those words of her husband is too much for her to take. Hearing Chaoxiang saying that he will never love her, it dragged her down to an abyss of loneliness and havoc.
And that type of destruction made her accept all his testimonies. She knows a thing or two about love; she once loved a man before. Someone loved her before as well. And if she's going to compare Chaoxiang and Liwei's attitude towards her, there is indeed a massive difference.
"I can go there by myself. I'll be heading mom."
And she just faked a smile before completely turning her face from the both of them. Chaoxiang felt a sudden dismay in his heart. She never talked or even greeted him, or even stared at him. As he look at her leaving the mansion, he can see her losing more weight recently. She was once a slender woman but now she seemed weak and unhealthy and Chaoxiang is really concerned about it.
"Now how does it feel to be completely ignored?"
"Stop insulting me."
"I can see you are having a hard time. Maybe you still love Suyin now. But my daughter is suffering too. Not to mention she is aware of your appointments with Suyin. Whether she likes you or not, with you cheating on her, it is a huge insult to her ego."
"She has always been that cold to me. She never cracked a joke, she never attempted to make me laugh either."
"My daughter, she made some songs for you. She writes poems about you. She is thinking about you while you're thinking about someone else. If she can't make you laugh, appreciate the things that she can do for you."
"She... she wrote songs for me?", Chaoxiang said to himself. Guilt is once again consuming his entire sanity. His whole body is immobilized by what Sora said about Meixiu. Since when did she start writing about him? Is it after the wedding? Is he that special to her? Those questions are completely messing up his brain.
"If something terrible happened because I lied then I am sorry. But the next time, to avoid misunderstandings, go ask your wife first."
And the woman walked away. She knows she unintentionally spilled some of Meixiu's secret. Escaping the tension is the easiest way she can do to keep her daughter's secrets to herself. She has no idea why Meixiu would actually pay that much to see his concerts when he could just sing for her at home. Maybe there is still some awkward things going on between them. The fact that Meixiu just ignored his existence a while ago made her hypothesis even stronger.
