a/n: hello readers, hoping you're enjoying this novel so far, I'm not really confident with my writing style since this is my first time writing a novel but I'll try to my best to improve.

btw I wanted to request you guys to comment on my novel about what you think about the story so far.

when I was 8 years old, memories of my previous life came and I found out that this world was a lot similar to the world of a mediocre novel that I once read,the name of that novel was 'to be hero'.

It was your usual generic power fantasy novel where demons started swarming in human world except it was focused on modern world where humanity had far advanced technology.

In this world,the humans who possess a power to fight with these demons were called heroes. Those heroes were also given a certain rank.that goes from C to Ss and Sss .

among the heroes there was one person who possessed superior power than others. it was a guy named James Usher, aka your generic protagonist.

the plot was simple, James' parents were killed by demons when he was young and he becomes an orphan but Michelle grace being close friends with his parents adopts him. From there he begins his quest to defeat the demons along with his childhood friend Nora and other girls from his harem.

I thought as long as everything was going according to the plot, I would be okay.....but even I never imagined something like this would happen.

(during entrance ceremony)

in the big hall, there were several students and on the stage there were teachers standing along with a strange device. One of the teachers started explaining about how the device works.

" alright students, this device will measure all your attributes and give you ranks accordingly, not to mention it will also determine your future potential."

I see several students measuring their ranks but I had my full attention on one person , James.

"let's see, if I remember correctly james rank should be around C+ or something."

but what happened next was shocking.

" Wha....no way..how???"

his rank didn't show up or more precisely, he doesn't even have any rank at all.

"but.... that's impossible..."

'The James Usher of this world doesn't have any special powers...heck he's just normal human being.'

"I .... guess, from now on I have to do my absolute best to survive and save others..... without James' help that is."

yes... I thought in the worst case scenario, I'll just take help from James but now it's impossible.

"TUTORIAL....yes."

'HOLY SMOKES!!! I HAVE A SYSTEM!!'

I finally found a way to open my system.... in a odd kinda way... but yeah this is definitely a system that can help me in me survive.

" let's see what you can do-"

before I could try the system I heard Nora calling out for me while waving her hands.

"JAMES!!! HERE!!"

there were few more students sitting with her on the table, Guess she easily made friends on her first day... unlike a certain someone.

"coming right up!!"

on my way to Nora's group, I caught a glimpse of alex.

'he looks stressed out, guess the fact that the main protagonist doesn't have power took a heavy toll on this poor guy.'

as I was just few meters from Nora's table, suddenly, someone stopped me.

"hey! where do you think you're coming ?"

It's a guy that was sitting with Nora's group. It looked like he mistook me for someone else so, I tried to reason with the guy.

"um ..hello, I think you don't know but I'm friends with Nora and-"

but this stubborn idiot just continued on ranting.

" oh I know your type, leeching off on class-A students to improve your status. do you think I don't know you, mr. no rank."

even though he was annoying, he felt a lot familiar, like I've seen him somewhere before but nothing came to my mind, just then Nora stood up from the table and walk straight to where both me and that guy were standing.

" Nora this guy-"

before this idiot could finish his sentence Nora took grab my hand and drag me to her table then made me sit right next to her, the guy who was ranting at me just now got stunned.

then Nora looked at that guy with a very angry look.

"look Adrian, I'm gonna pretend I didn't hear you talking trash about james just now...but if you do this again I'll make sure you regret it."

I would be lying if I say I wasn't scared, this is the first time I heard Nora's voice in a chilling tone....but Adrian on the other hand didn't quite get the message.

"but Nora this guy doesn't even have a rank, think about your reputation if you hang out with this guy... rumours will spread and-"

"ADRIAN!!! I SAID ENOUGH!!!"

I felt a heavy pressure coming from Nora, well not just me , everyone at the cafeteria felt this immense pressure.

' woah.....no wonder she's strong.'

but soon one of the girls from Nora's group stepped in to calm the situation.

" Adrian.....stop it, look even Nora is angry with you, just apologise to James, I'm sure he'll forgive you."

'damn...even I'm starting to feel bad for the guy, I mean the guys you were chilling with just now are making you apologise to some random dude.'

Adrian's face looked a bit mix of anger and sadness but soon he reluctantly apologized to me. I, of course accepted his apology, I finally realised where I've seen him before.

since the author of this novel wasn't really a fan of harem, he made sure to give each heroine apart from main love interest, their romantic partner. Adrian was Nora's partner and I'm sure he quite liked her ever since he first met her.

but he couldn't approach Nora in the novel because she always stick around with James....and since this time both me and Nora are in different classess he must have thought that he'll make her like him, but when he saw Nora being so close with me, a guy with no rank, he must've felt jealous.

" Nora, I know you're angry with me but I'm saying the truth and-"

this time before he could finish it I interrupt him.

"Adrian look, if you have any problem with me not having any rank and still being friends with Nora then how about a duel between you and me."

everyone at the table were now stunned, even Nora started choking on her food.

" next week on practice grounds, you and me. I hope you can request teachers for an official duel between students."

Adrian who was now a little fired up agreed.

" alright but if I win you'll stay away from Nora."

Nora looked at me with a worried expression while, I opened my mouth and said.

"No"
