Chapter 171: The Bald Monster Invades, The Whole City on Alert!
Inside the meeting room.
It was chaos.
The man who had triggered the alarm earlier looked on, visibly disappointed.
He couldn't understand why the once smart and capable veterans, upon becoming the leaders of the Time-Space Bureau, suddenly seemed to lose their intelligence.
The Time-Space Bureau could have easily coexisted peacefully with the Transmigrators. Moreover, peaceful coexistence, where the Transmigrators could weather the disaster in the wilderness, was a win-win for both parties.
So why were the leaders determined to take such underhanded measures and force these people into a corner?
Was there some deep hatred between the two sides?
Even if there was enmity, those in such positions shouldn't act impulsively!
This was the first mission the Time-Space Bureau had ever carried out, and they had already made such foolish decisions.
Once the Transmigrators who had returned early spread the word, what reputation would the Time-Space Bureau have left?
Would the next wave of Transmigrators still trust them? Would they be willing to cooperate?
Why were these leaders blind to such simple truths?
Watching the argument in the meeting room, the middle-ranking official grew increasingly disillusioned.
He had a feeling that the Time-Space Bureau wouldn't last much longer.
At that moment...
The bureau chief, who had been quietly observing, finally spoke up.
His stance was bizarre—while suggesting a dual approach, he primarily sided with the hardliners.
The man who had raised the alarm felt his heart sink.
Choosing the hardline approach meant risking mutual destruction!
With the strength of that bald-headed monster, how steep a price would they have to pay if it came to mutual destruction?
And the monster was still in the city.
Even if they managed to kill or drive him away, the aftermath would be unimaginable.
At that point, the public outrage alone would be enough to bury the Time-Space Bureau!
The man couldn't comprehend how the once wise and heroic chief had become so foolish in his approach to dealing with the Transmigrators.
What he didn't know was...
The will of the world was influencing the higher-ups of the Time-Space Bureau...
At this moment, the man had lost all hope and began contemplating leaving the bureau altogether.
...
Meanwhile, Chen Ye had checked back into that five-star hotel.
He still found the presidential suite to be the most comfortable.
As for the fact that the lobby manager refused to check him in?
Well...
That manager was currently in the hospital, fighting for his life!
Why hadn't Chen Ye gone directly after the Time-Space Bureau?
It wasn't that he didn't want to, but he had no idea where they were located!
He had tried searching online and found that this world didn't even acknowledge the existence of such a department...
In fact, the term "Time-Space Bureau" itself was flagged as a banned phrase.
No matter.
Chen Ye believed that if he stayed in the hotel long enough, the Time-Space Bureau would come to him.
His instincts were correct.
Less than two hours later, several men in black suits arrived outside his presidential suite.
They looked like debt collectors from a gang...
"Sir, I represent the Time-Space Bureau, here to negotiate with you," said the middle-aged man leading them. "As long as you're willing to leave the city, we won't interfere no matter where you go, and we're willing to provide for your daily needs along with any other reasonable requests."
Such lies were easy to see through.
Anyone who believed this nonsense was a fool.
Knowing the Time-Space Bureau's methods, Chen Ye was certain that if he stepped outside the city, a missile would be headed his way in no time.
"And who the hell are you?" Chen Ye asked coldly, holding a glass of red wine and giving the man a once-over. "If you want to negotiate with me, send your bureau chief."
The man's face instantly turned pale with anger.
"Fine," he snapped, "Let me put it another way. I'm here to inform you that you need to get out of this city right now. People like you aren't welcome here."
"Hmm?" Chen Ye raised an eyebrow. "Are you looking to die?"
Hearing this, the middle-aged man grinned wickedly and suddenly lifted his shirt.
Strapped to his body were explosives, with the detonator firmly in his hand.
"Dare to touch me? The moment I release this switch, the bomb on me will explode, and we'll both die together."
"Is that so?"
Chen Ye took a step forward, suddenly appearing right in front of the man, gripping his throat.
He was so fast.
By the time the man realized what was happening, Chen Ye already had him in a chokehold, his feet dangling off the ground.
The other men behind the middle-aged man were stunned and quickly pulled out their guns, aiming at Chen Ye.
Chen Ye ignored their weapons and smiled, "Go ahead, let go of the switch! If you don't hurry, I'll crush you to death."
The man's pupils dilated in fear.
He stared at Chen Ye in disbelief.
Was this guy not afraid of death? Or was it possible that the bomb wouldn't affect him either?
Suddenly, he regretted his decision.
Would he have survived if he hadn't tried to act tough?
Was it worth risking his life for a meager monthly salary?
But now, it was clear the bald man was going to kill him...
With no other choice, the middle-aged man decided to take him down with him.
"I... I'll take you... with me..." he gasped.
With those words, he released the detonator.
He hadn't been bluffing—the bomb was real.
In the next instant...
Boom!
An explosion engulfed the entire presidential suite in flames.
Pedestrians on the streets below heard a deafening blast, and shards of glass began raining down from above.
Panic quickly spread. People screamed in terror. Countless heads turned upwards.
They saw thick smoke billowing from the top floor of the luxury hotel, and every single window was shattered.
"An explosion up there?"
"Isn't that the presidential suite at the XX Hotel? How could there be an explosion?"
"That was no small blast! It doesn't seem like a gas explosion."
"I wonder if there were any guests inside. If there were, this could be a huge disaster."
"Exactly! People who can afford to stay there are definitely VIPs."
Many pedestrians stood on the street, pointing and discussing the explosion.
At that moment, a sharp-eyed bystander noticed a shadowy figure by the window of the floor where the explosion had occurred.
The figure tossed a round object out of the window.
Thud!
The object hit the roof of a van, creating a small dent before rolling onto the ground.
When the crowd got a closer look, their faces turned pale with fear.
It was a human head!
"Ah!"
A scream pierced the air, and the street immediately descended into chaos.
...
At the same time, inside the Time-Space Bureau...
Several high-ranking leaders sat in a room, listening to the silence coming from the speaker. Their expressions were grim.
The middle-aged man who had confronted Chen Ye wasn't just carrying explosives—he had a listening device on him.
Thus, the higher-ups were fully aware of what had transpired in the presidential suite.
They had also heard the explosion.
The room was silent.
After a long pause, the bureau chief finally spoke, "That bald man... was he killed in the blast?"
Upon hearing this, someone immediately stood up, saying, "I'll go check right away."
A subordinate sighed, "Judging by how confident he was, I doubt he's afraid of bombs... He really is a terrifying monster."
Just as he finished speaking...
The person who had gone to check returned with a report: "Latest news, he's completely unharmed. He threw Captain Sun's head onto the street, causing a panic. The police have already been dispatched."
Hearing this, everyone's expressions grew even darker.
They all knew how powerful the explosives strapped to Captain Sun had been.
If Chen Ye could survive such a blast unscathed, would missiles even work on him?
More importantly...
Tossing Captain Sun's head onto the street was a direct provocation and threat toward them!
"What should we do now, Chief?" someone couldn't help but ask.
The bureau chief, a veteran with streaks of silver in his hair, replied, "First, notify the police to pull back. There's no need for them to die senselessly."
"He wants to see me, doesn't he? Then I'll go see him!"
Upon hearing this, the subordinates were shocked. "Chief, you can't! Your position is too important—you can't put yourself in danger!"
Another subordinate added, "Exactly, Chief! This guy is dangerous. I suspect you might be his target!"
The chief frowned and asked, "Then what do we do? If he keeps staying in the city, a huge disaster will be inevitable."
Suddenly, someone suggested, "Chief, what if we activate the secret weapon? To deal with a monster like him, we'll need an even stronger monster to eliminate him."
At these words, many people's eyes lit up.
The "secret weapon" was something only the bureau chief had ever seen, and the others were extremely curious.
Everyone looked at the chief.
However, without hesitation, the chief shook his head. "No. He's currently in the city. If we use the secret weapon, the entire city might be destroyed."
"The higher-ups have long stipulated that the secret weapon can only be activated in a desolate, uninhabited area!"
The crowd was taken aback.
The secret weapon was that powerful?
Could it really destroy an entire city?
It was worth noting that their city was a massive metropolis, with a population of over seventy million.
Even using nuclear weapons would require several large bombs to have a similar effect.
At this point...
The chief stood up, resolute. "I'll go see him! If my death can make him leave the city, then I'll have died for a worthy cause."
"Old Zhang, after I'm gone, you'll take charge of everything."
Upon hearing this, the others' expressions shifted.
The man named Old Zhang couldn't hide the brief flash of joy in his eyes, though his face was quickly overcome with sorrow, and even tears began to flow.
His acting was truly Oscar-worthy!
"Chief, please reconsider!" Old Zhang cried as he held the chief's arm.
The chief glanced at Old Zhang but didn't expose his obvious ambition. He simply waved his hand, "It's decided."
...
At that moment, Chen Ye had already switched to a different room and changed his clothes.
The previous outfit had been damaged in the explosion.
Looking down at the commotion on the street below, Chen Ye's expression remained calm.
It wasn't long before he spotted several black sedans pulling up in front of the hotel.
