He Chen looked at him intently as he sat in the passenger seat. Feeling the strong stare, Ai Chang finally looked at his friend and asked, "What?"
"What do you mean by 'what'? Do you even know I have been waiting for you for the last hour? You told me it would take a max of 10 minutes for you to come back. Is this your 10 minutes? I shouldn't have come with you." He Chen finally let out his frustration that he had been holding inside since he entered the car.
"To be exact, it's not even 40 minutes. And why are you behaving like a girl on her period? Let me guess, someone called you when I left. And that someone is very close to me." Ai Chang said with a little smirk on his lips that looked annoying to He Chen.
"Now I really know where she learned how to annoy someone. When you have an annoying older brother, someone will obviously learn how to annoy others. You two really proved you both are siblings." He Chen remarked as he started the car.
"You can't call her annoying," Ai Chang warned his friend.
"Ok, ok. Anyways, now would you like to tell me what happened that caused you to return this late? Don't tell me you are hiding someone at your home. But that can't be, since you are still stuck with that Miss Bai."
"Stop being dramatic, otherwise you will not have a girlfriend even if you become 30."
"Why are you cursing me when you yourself don't have one, even though you are perfect? Now will you tell me what happened?"
'What an annoying guy. I don't know how we became friends.' Ai Chang muttered under his breath.
"Did you say something?" He Chen asked when he felt Ai Chang was saying something, but he couldn't understand properly.
"No. I was saying, when I left to bring the file from my apartment, before I could enter the building, I met a cute little girl in the garden who was about to get hurt, and I saved her. In that process, I got late. And when I was coming back just now, I met her again downstairs."
He Chen was stunned when he heard his friend praising a kid. "Do you realize it's the first time you like a kid? It's not like you hate them, but you don't like them as well. Now I am really curious how she won your heart in a span of 20 minutes, because I know it's hard to please you, and I experienced that first hand."
"I am not hard to please. It's just that you are annoying, that's why you feel it's hard."
"I am not annoying. I am very likable. It's your fault you have bad eyesight."
"I can see who has bad eyesight from your previous relationships."
"Why are you bringing my history here? Right now I am talking about you." He Chen then removed his focus from the road and glanced at the flowers in Ai Chang's hand, before returning his focus on the road. "Did she give you this?"
Ai Chang looked at the direction where his friend glanced and saw the flowers in his hand. "Yeah, she gave me this because she didn't want me to forget her."
"I can tell by your gentle expression that you like her quite a lot." He Chen said with a genuine smile on his face.
"Yeah, her parents gave her the best education a kid needs." Ai Chang commented while looking at the flowers in his hand.
Suddenly, He Chen stopped his car in front of the company and informed his friend, "You can go in first. I will come in a while."
"Ok." Ai Chang replied before bidding farewell to He Chen.
On Ai Yun's side,
Ai Yun came back to her senses when Ai Chang disappeared from her sight. She wanted to call him, but he had already left. Feeling disappointed, she went back to her new home. She went upstairs and stood in front of the apartment door, trying to bring a smile on her face so as not to worry her mom. Putting on a bright smile, she punched in the password of the lock and went inside.
Hearing the door open, Bai Lu went to the hall room to see who had come, although she had an idea who it might be. "How do you know the password? I don't think I told you when you left." Bai Lu asked when she saw Ai Yun coming from the door.
Giving a warm hug to her mother, she answered, "I saw the password when you were punching it on the lock, and it's very easy to remember."
"Hmm, I will change the password soon." Feeling that the hug was longer than usual, Bai Lu asked her daughter when she felt something was off with her. "Ai Yun, did something happen?"
"No, mama. Why are you asking that suddenly?" Ai Yun asked after releasing her from her hug.
"It's nothing. I just felt you were behaving weirdly after coming back." Bai Lu commented while looking at her daughter, trying to find out if something was wrong with her.
"You must be feeling things after working without taking a rest." Ai Yun said while avoiding meeting her mother's eyes.
"It's good if nothing is wrong, but you have to inform me if something is wrong with you, ok?" Bai Lu remarked, still not believing her, but she didn't ask further since she didn't want to share with her.
