Chapter 69: The Temple and 0-8-4

The Onibus landed gently at the base of an ancient Inca temple, its grand structures rising majestically against the Andean landscape. The blue sky was dotted with white clouds, and the cool breeze from the mountains brought a slight relief from the heat of the mission. May and Grant stood ready to secure the perimeter of the area, their experience and professionalism evident as they prepared for what could be a complex operation.

May and Ward, equipped with weapons and surveillance equipment, exited the Shuttle and headed to the exterior of the temple, where they placed monitoring devices around the area and checked its security. "Here it is," Pedro said, pointing to a dust-covered altar covered in cloth. "The object was found in a secret chamber, and my team and I were able to access it recently. We believe it is over a thousand years old."

Coulson nodded, staying focused as Fitz and Simmons prepared to analyze the object.

"Thanks, Pedro. Let's take a look," Coulson replied, as Fitz and Simmons set up their equipment on the ground. Skye stood nearby, watching with great interest as what was about to be revealed.

Simmons pulled a compact drone from his backpack and turned it on. The drone flew to the object, hovering a few feet above it to begin the analysis. Fitz adjusted the control panel as the drone transmitted real-time images and data to the team.

"Okay, the drone is in the air and beginning the analysis," Fitz said, his voice full of anticipation. — Let's see what we can find out.

The drone slowly circled the object, and a series of images and data began to appear on the screens of the scientists' devices. Skye watched in fascination, eager to see what the drone would reveal.

"The analysis is showing some preliminary information," Simmons informed, as he examined the data. "The object appears to have been there for over fifteen hundred years, as Pedro mentioned. The formation and materials used are unknown to us."

Pedro stood nearby, watching anxiously as the team analyzed the object.

"It's incredible," Pedro commented, looking at the drone images. "We've never seen anything like this before. The material is very different from anything we know from the Inca period."

Coulson adjusted his glasses, observing the data with a concentrated expression.

"This is really fascinating," he said. "If the formation and materials are unknown, it could mean that the object has origins much older than we think. Or, who knows, it could have been influenced by cultures beyond our understanding."

Fitz and Simmons continued to examine the data, while Skye approached the object, admiring its complexity and mystery.

"As the object is being analyzed, we have some additional information," Simmons informed. "The structure seems to have properties that we cannot identify with our current equipment. There may be something more advanced or unknown involved."

Skye was intrigued, her eyes shining with curiosity.

"So, does this mean that there may be something more significant here than just an ancient artifact?" she asked, looking at Coulson and the scientists.

"Exactly." Coulson confirmed, giving a brief smile. "This is an 0-8-4, and that is why we are here. We need to understand what it is and why it is important. What we discovered here could have much larger implications."

As the drone continued to transmit data, Pedro looked at the team members with a look of admiration.

"I thank you all for coming here to investigate," Pedro said, with a tone of gratitude. "I believe we are about to discover something truly important." Coulson nodded, his expression revealing a sense of responsibility and commitment to the mission.

"We'll continue the analysis and make sure everything is in order," Coulson said. "May and Ward are outside ensuring security, and we want to make sure this investigation is conducted in the safest manner possible."
