Chapter 5

Even before I regained my memories, the Gon I was was well-liked by two distinct groups of people on Whale island, where the majority of the children were too old to play with Noko and me.

These two groups of people were fishermen who owned fishing boats and women who worked in the port or sold fish throughout town and the other small villages on the island.

Tina, one of these fish sellers, worked in my aunt's bar, where I had come tonight to feed the baby snake I now had custody of.

She not only helped Mito on weekends by working as a bartender for some extra cash, but she was also a fish seller with her small cooking business the majority of the time.

On the island, plenty of things revolved around fish and fish meat.

People ate more fish than any other type of meat because farming wasn't very profitable and was also dangerous due to all the cattle opportunist, cattle-devouring-wildlife lurking in the forests.

"Gon, you're scaring our rare weekend customers; where did you get the big snake? I thought you liked insects." Tina frowned as she saw me bring the long and somewhat large reptile that was startling the customers sitting all around the bar.

People came here at night, mostly men of all ages who had worked hard during the day, to enjoy a nice alcoholic beverage, which was often beer because Mito and other islanders didn't brew much else.

It was inexpensive to make and inexpensive to buy.

To Tina, I said, referring to the sleeping animal around my neck, "This snake? I got him while training and came across something a bit disturbing…"

"What disturbing thing?" asked the sexy woman in front of me, who had no notable details aside from the fact that she was pretty. "Did you get into another trouble with fox bears? The last time this happened, I heard you met a hunter."
