Chapter - 18 The fear of Twins

In animes and movies whenever Some one of importance came they always came out with their own laughs, some had cool Bgm music playing in the background and some had really cool songs.

But this tall witch in her striking emerald-green robes arrived without any fanfare, the cold wind blowing against her.

The students, who had been chattering a moment before, fell silent, none dared to speak in the presence of the stern and serious Professor McGonagall, someone even the Weasley twins often feared.

"First-year students, Professor McGonagall," Hagrid quickly announced, avoiding eye contact with the stern witch.

"Thank you, Hagrid. You may leave the rest to me." she replied.

As Hagrid gave William a reassuring glance and quickly departed, it was evident even he was feeling the pressure.

It seems Hagrid might be feeling the weight of his recent rule-breaking antics. Professor McGonagall, though stern, seemed somewhat like a caring elder sister in comparison.

Professor McGonagall swung open the grand door, revealing a lavish marble staircase ascending to the upper floors. The stone walls were adorned with flaming torches, and the high ceiling appeared to stretch endlessly above them.

We followed Professor McGonagall along a stony path. There was a lot of noise coming from the door on the right where many people were. But instead of going in, McGonagall took us around a corner to a small empty room at the other end.

The students crammed in, feeling a bit nervous and excited. They looked around curiously, wondering what was going to happen next.

"Welcome to Hogwarts, everyone," Professor McGonagall began. "The opening banquet is just about to commence, but before you proceed to the dining hall, there's an important task. It's time for you all to be sorted into your respective houses."

"Sorting is a significant tradition as your House becomes your home during your time at Hogwarts. You'll attend classes, reside, and spend leisure time in your House's dormitories and common rooms."

"At Hogwarts, we have four houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Each house boasts a rich history and has produced remarkable witches and wizards.

Your achievements here will earn extra points for your house, while any missteps will result in a deduction of house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points will be awarded the prestigious House Cup."

"Regardless of your assigned house, I hope each of you will bring honor to your house and not engage in trouble throughout your time here," Professor McGonagall concluded, her gaze briefly settling on William.

Under her stern look, He felt a sense of unease, as if she somehow knew about his involvement in the commotion on the train. His instincts were quite sharp , yet among the numerous culprits, he was the least guilty one.

Compared to the Weasley twins and Niffler's shenanigans, William felt like a background character in the whole charade.

This revelation was oddly comforting for his tender heart. Luckily, Professor McGonagall only shot him a glance, sparing him from a public scolding.

Wiping his brow, William thought, "Man, if I weren't as tough as nails mentally, I'd probably be bawling right now!" Hats off to Professor McGonagall and her intimidating aura!

"In a few minutes, the sorting ceremony will be held in front of all the teachers and students , i suggest you all to relax your nervousness before it."

"Okay, I'll come get you once it's time." Professor McGonagall walked off, adding, "And try to keep it down while I'm gone."

With that, she disappeared into the hall, leaving the room buzzing with whispers and questions.

"How are they going to sort us into houses?" Marina glanced at William, her eyes filled with uncertainty , they were squeezed together in a cramped boat where her instinct almost urged her to grab his hand and seek comfort in his arms, her body shivering from the cold.

William remained silent. Being more reserved by nature, he felt at a loss about the sorting process.

Meanwhile, Cormac McLaggen, positioned nearby, boasted proudly, " hah, peasants, worrying about the house they will be selected in, my uncle.."

McLaggen kept talking about his uncle, Tiberius, who knew Rufus Scrimgeour, the head of the Auror's office at the Ministry of Magic. He repeated this several times with pride.

He seemed to have a habit of repeating himself, which is something all people do, including wizards.

McLaggen also boasted about being a skilled flyer, saying he planned to join the Quidditch team in his first year and become the youngest player ever.

The boy spoke and glared provocatively at William.

This behavior likely began when he found out that William was just a Muggle.

William reached for his wand, thinking of using a silence spell to shut the boy up, but Professor McGonagall happened to approach at that moment.

William quickly pretended to be innocent.

McLaggen was fucked it's just that he didn't realise it yet, as Professor McGonagall stood behind him like a ghost while the boy continued talking about his uncle's connections.

"Don't trouble yourself with your uncle. I'll certainly make sure to escort you home." Professor McGonagall's voice held a stern edge.

McLaggen's legs trembled in fear, causing him to almost bump into Marina.

The girl glared at McLaggen, then shifted closer to William, as if seeking refuge in his arms for safety.

Cho stood behind Professor McGonagall, subtly gesturing for William to take advantage of the situation.

Seize the moment! William looked back like saying I'm here for studying not play marriage.

Although, if a witch was attractive, he wouldn't mind being her lover.

However, there was no chance for a young girl like Marina, he wasn't a pedophile.

"Ahh!" A sudden scream pierced the air.

McLaggen screamed like a girl. It appeared that there were several ghosts behind him.

The fright rendered him breathless, affecting those around him as well. The room's temperature seemed to drop a bit.

The pearly, translucent ghosts glided across the room, whispering among themselves, paying little heed to the first-year students. It seemed as though they were engaged in some sort of argument.

"Quick, bring that Bloody Baron back; only he can manage Peeves and his pranks," a ghost adorned in a corrugated collar and tights exclaimed.

"The baron, went to seek Ms. Grey, you see, something's strange in the Ravenclaw lounge lately," chimed in a chubby, monk-like ghost.

"Perhaps we should give Peeves another opportunity, let him attend the banquet—"

"Absolutely not! My dear friar, haven't we given Peeves many chances.

Yet, he's tarnishing our reputation—hey, I say, what are you doing here?"

The ghost in the tights suddenly noticed the first-year students.

McLaggen was so scared that he swiftly sought hid behind William, eliciting an even tighter pursing of Professor McGonagall's lips.

"1st years " the chubby monk greeted them with a smile. "I assume you're getting ready for the sorting"

William nodded in a friendly manner.

"Hope you get in Hufflepuff!" remarked the monk. "I was a Hufflepuff when I was alive and kicking."

The ghosts glided toward the hall, passing through the opposite wall and vanishing, while Professor McGonagall's voice echoed once more.

"It's time to proceed. The sorting ceremony is about to commence," Professor McGonagall informed the first-year students.

Everyone obediently made their way towards the hall.
