Chapter 1

"Happy New Year!"

Everyone in the family yelled at the same time as the waves hit our boat, as fireworks kept exploding in the sky their colors reflecting in the water alongside the moon.

A new year has come and with it, countless experiences have yet to come too.

"Happy birthday Sam."

My mother said with a cake in her hands, I smiled at her and she smiled as well, everyone in the boat was already around the table.

I'm already 23 years old so I don't care much about my birthday, but I always appreciate my family for preparing this for me, even if it's just a cake.

Everything is just fine, the same as every year, nothing changed, this type of stagnation is what most people search for, everything is happy, but not forever.

As we are distracted we didn't notice the waves gradually getting bigger and bigger, we were leaving the shore, my father is the first to notice, but it was too late, he runs to take control of the boat trying to get us back to shore, but we were in a strong sea current, as he didn't have any experience with the sea outside the shore, he lost control easily.

He is launched as the rudder starts spinning at high speeds, the boat started to swing when the waves started to hit with more and more force, the boat isn't very big so big and coupled with our inexperience we crash immediately.

As I'm sinking in the ocean I see a thin strand of blood leave my body, I can't move my body, but I can feel it, and I feel that everything is a mess, my spine is in pieces, my rib cage shattered and my organs pierced by my bones, I'll die in a few minutes.

How simple right... Not even 5 minutes ago we were happily cheering, but In such a short time everything is lost, everybody is in the same situation as me, slowly sinking to the bottom of the ocean.

And now, the only thing I can see is my blood rising to the surface, something I can't, I can only look at it, the mixture of color on the surface, the blood, the fireworks, the moon, and slowly the black.

...

But shortly after the black fades and light comes, I see a woman looking at me with worry, but once she sees me opening my eyes that worry vanishes, she smiles at me and hugs me.

"Happy new year, Samuel." She says

At this time my mind is racing to find an answer, I was clearly reincarnated, that I already figured, but what confuses me was the countless blue strands in the air, they were thin but they felt powerful.

"He can already see mana, that's good, he has a lot of magic." Another voice spoke behind me, I tried to tilt my head to look who it was, but my neck is very weak, my mother noticed and turned my body for me in an angle I could see both, there stood a man, most likely my dad, he was wearing a black suit, his hair was long reaching his back, I could see he was a little old, like forty years old, some of his hair was white which highlights with his black skin, but oddly his face was flawless, he didn't have a single wrinkle on his face.

I looked at my mom again, she was pretty much the same, long hair with some white strands, black skin, but her eyes were blue, while my dad's eyes were brown, she was in hospital clothing since I was born not long ago.

The two started to talk while I stared at nothing, thinking to myself, this is another world with magic, I died and was reborn here... Looking at my new parents I feel sad, I died and all my family.

"What's wrong?" My mom asked.

She placed her hand on my forehead, I saw all the blue strands, or mana strands, flowing to her, running through her arms and concentrating in her hands, her hand started glowing and the mana started to flow to my body.

"Minor heal." she said as the mana started to travel through my body, my sadness replaced with curiosity.

"Hm? There's nothing wrong, why are you sad?" She looked at me with a smile.

"I don't know but why did you said the spell name? It's not like we have to say it." My dad spoke teasingly.

"I - I just wanted to look cool ok?" My mom blushed, and my dad giggled in response.

"Anyway, let's go home" He smiled.

'That was magic?' As we were moving I kept thinking 'my dad said that I had a lot of magic, so I'm able to learn how to do that too right? Awesome! This new life looks promising if I can learn magic and go around the world hunting monsters then I will accept it willingly, I can't wait!'.

I thought I was gonna have a life of adventure, the thought of my previous parents already gone, everything was happening so fast that I couldn't process everything so I mislooked some things, and that's why I ended up overestimating my future, and in the end I was in utter disappointment.

...

40 years later...

"ahh... I'm tired.".
