Chapter 4 secret romance

I prepared myself to fight with him, even though he was way stronger than me.

Suddenly, Emma stepped forward and stood before me, blocking his way. "No, Joe, stop it. You cannot raise your hand on a woman."

It was hard to distinguish whether it was her humanity or the act of representing herself as a kind person. Whatever it was, I was not interested in it nor wanted to watch their drama. So I strolled out of the office.

"Where do you think you are going? Come here, I want to have a talk. I want to show you who I actually am," he yelled.

I paused, pulling the door. Anger simmered inside me. Gripping the doorknob tight, I inhaled deeply and turned my head towards them.

I then said, "I don't know about you but I will actually show you who I am, Joe. I will make sure you will regret betraying me and mark my words one day you will fall on your knees in front of me asking for an apology. And that day I will not only make you suffer, I will also make you lose everything you flex to have..."

I then left the office and staggered to my desk which was no longer mine. Tears were gushing down my eyes but I kept on wiping with the back of my hand, trying to keep myself strong. I flinched when someone placed a hand on my shoulder.

"Hey..." hearing the voice, I knew who it was, so I hurriedly wiped away my tears.

Then putting on the fake smile, I turned around. “I... I did it, Dee. I did it. Finally, I am free now..." My voice was quivering, still, I was trying to stay strong.

Gripping my chin she slightly turned my face, glancing at my cheek, she mumbled, "he slapped you..."

"Don't worry, I slapped him back. That doesn't matter anymore, Dee.” I took her hand. “I am free now, that is the only thing which matters. So now I need to go..." Trying to ignore her gaze, I pretended to find my bag.

"It's beside the box," suddenly she said.

I glanced at the desk and found out she was right. It was behind the box in which I had placed my belongings. I started to check the box to find if anything was missing.

Abruptly Dee gripped my arms and pulled me. She gave me a tight warm hug in which I was not able to stop myself from melting down. I burst into tears and she kept on rubbing my back comforting me.

When I felt a little bit better in her embrace, I pulled back. "Thank you, Dee, for always being there for me. I will miss you a lot."

"Come on, we will still be in the same city, isn't it? Or don't tell me you are running away from this city without my knowing.” She gave me a skeptical look.

Giving a witty smile, I quipped, "what will you do if I leave? Will you come after me?"

"Of course, as I have always told you I will follow you even afterlife," she replied, slapping my arms.

"Ouch! That hurts.” I rubbed my arms.

"Great, from next time think before talking such nonsense. Now pick up your belongings, leave and start your new life, before I throw you out myself," she quipped, chuckling.

"Ouch! That hurts as well.” I held my chest smiling. “Anyway, I will be in touch with you for now let's say, Goodbye." I swung my bag in my arms and picked up the box.

"Okay! take care.” She kissed my cheeks. “If there is any problem don't bother to call me. The problems created by troublemakers like you will be impossible for me to solve. So instead of calling me you better find someone who could solve all your problems." She was still not done kidding.

"Well in that case I am afraid I will never call you, Dee. I mean if I cannot call my friend in need then why should I bother calling you, isn't it?" I raised my brows.

She lifted her both hands in the air and said, "I surrender talking to you, Quynh. You can call me whenever you want."

With a grin, I replied, "Whenever I want, Dee? Are you sure?"

She rolled her eyes. "Stop it, don't you want to leave? Leave right now or else I will explode out in tears and flood this company.”

“I will be the happiest if you can do that,” I said smiling.

“I wish I could do that, babe girl. But I will not get lucky like you to get accepted into a reputable company. Flooding this company would bring an economic crisis in my life.”

Pouting, I mumbled, “I will miss you, bitch.”

“I will miss you too, savage bitch.” She smirked.

After final goodbye, I made my way out of the company. As I got on the elevator before the door closed, for the last time I glanced at the office where I worked for the past three years. I was always so grateful and delighted working there as I believed that company gave me the love of my life but I never knew that I was going to have the worst heartbreak.

After spending some time alone at the beach, I headed back to my apartment. Soon after I placed my box on the table, I heard my cell phone ringing.

Dropping on the couch I shoved my hand on the handbag and reached out for my cell phone. Glancing at the number, I rolled my eyes seeing Joe’s name.

Rejecting the call, I tossed the phone aside. Throwing my head back on the cushion, I shut my eyes. One after another the thoughts of Joe and Emma crossed my mind. I tried to divert my mind but was not able to do it. Tears flowed down on the side of my eyes.

When my cell phone rang again, I reached out for it and raised it above my face, and glanced at the screen. Seeing it was a call from Joe, I rejected the call and blacklisted his number.

Then getting on my feet, I marched to the washroom and took a warm bath. After preparing hot soup, I sat on the chair ready for dinner. But when I took one sip of the soup, the taste of the soup evoked memories of Joe.

‘Why? Why am I not able to move one? After all the things he did, why can't I stop thinking about him?’

Suddenly I heard my cell phone ringing. As I retrieved it from the table, I found out it was from an unknown number. I cleared my throat, took a deep breath, and pressed the answer button.

As soon as I tucked it in my ear, I yelled, "what the hell is your problem? I am walking away from you so that you don't need to have a secret romance with your love. Still, why are you calling me? For god's sake please tell me what did I do wrong that being in a relationship I got your betrayal and now when I am calling off this relationship, still you are calling me?"

"Ahem... is this Miss Hemsworth?" Suddenly an unknown voice came from the other side of the phone.

"Um... yes, who is this?" I stammered in astonishment.

“This is the CEO of ABC Cooperation.”

‘What… the… CEO?’ I got up in shock. ‘ABC Cooperation? My new workplace? Why is its CEO calling me? Please don’t tell me I am rejected and that text message was some kind of mistake,’ I prayed in panic.
