Ch-15 < Recounting >

Inside the dimly lit bunker, Kevin's gaze fell on Bianca, her eyes like two storm clouds filled with anger he had never seen before. Her expression was taut, her body tense, and her usually bright demeanor was overshadowed by a dark, cold intensity.

Her eyes were fixed on kiana, yet she seemed distant, as if weighed down by something heavy. Kiana lay motionless on a small, makeshift bed, her chest rising and falling with deep, exhausted breaths.

"Bianca!" Kevin called out, taking a step toward her. For a moment, she didn't respond, her face set in a defiant scowl. But then, recognition flickered in her eyes, and her expression softened.

Tears welled up, spilling over her cheeks as she rushed forward, collapsing into his arms. Her whole body trembled as she sobbed, her fingers digging into his shirt as if afraid he would disappear again. The dark cloud that had loomed over her seemed to lift just a bit, but her voice was thick with emotion.

"You're here... You really came back," she choked out between her tears. "But... but you're five months late, Kevin. Five whole months."

Kevin held her tightly, feeling her pain, sensing the turmoil within her heart. He glanced over at Kiana, still fast asleep despite the noise. Her face was pale, her breathing deep and heavy, like someone who had been utterly drained of strength.

He gently brushed a stray lock of hair away from Bianca's face. "She must be completely exhausted," he murmured. "What happened here, Bianca? Why are you filled with so much anger and hatred?"

Bianca sniffled, trying to calm her breathing. She wiped her tears away and met his eyes. "It's Otto," she said, her voice tinged with bitterness. "He's gone mad, Kevin. He's been attacking us relentlessly, using every weapon at his disposal. Bombs, missiles… he's turned everything on us."

Kevin's expression darkened. "Tell me everything," he urged, his voice firm but gentle. "What has he done?"

Bianca took a deep breath, steadying herself. "We've been fighting for more than a year, constantly on the move.

Afrer 2 years when Otto confirmed that you left he sent over a thousand Valkyries and mecha machines to capture us.

At first, Papa was able to protect us, but the attacks kept getting worse... more intense." Her voice wavered, and tears began to form again. "And then... papa… he…"

Kevin felt a cold dread wash over him. "What happened to Siegfried?" he asked, his heart pounding.

Bianca's face crumpled, and her voice broke. "Otto waited until Dad was off guard... he took his chance and… he killed him." Her voice cracked with the weight of the memory. "Dad died trying to protect us."

Kevin's hands clenched into fists. He felt a surge of anger, a rare emotion for him, but it was tempered by grief. "Kiana… does she know?" he asked softly.

Bianca shook her head, wiping her tears. "No… she was unconscious when it happened. She doesn't know... but Sirin, in her consciousness, probably does. I'm sure she's aware. She's always been smarter than Kiana in these things."

Kevin nodded, processing the information. "Otto…" he muttered. "I can't believe he's pushed you this far."

Bianca's expression shifted from sadness to frustration. "I've killed Otto three times, Kevin. Three times, and yet he still comes back. Two weeks ago, he showed up again and launched Honkai fission missiles at us.

Yesterday… Kiana had to teleport all the missiles to another dimension just to protect us. She was already exhausted, but she kept going… she pushed herself to the brink. She's been asleep for over 20 hours now."

He must have used void Archives to transfer his consciousness to another Soulium body. Kevin thought.

Kevin glanced back at Kiana, her face peaceful yet pale, a stark contrast to the storm raging within Bianca. "You've been fighting all this time," he murmured, almost to himself.

Bianca nodded, her expression turning weary. "We tried not to kill the Valkyries, you know. They're not the enemy, not really. We only destroyed the mechas.

But… the Valkyries… we just knocked them out but some might got crippled. We didn't want to hurt them more than necessary." She paused, pulling a small, dark flower-shaped weapon from her side. "A Valkyrie named Himeko gave me this," she said, her voice softer now. "She said it was from my aunt… It's called Abyss Flower."

Kevin looked at the weapon, his eyes narrowing. "Himeko…" he muttered. He knew of her—a girl with a fierce spirit, loyal to her cause, yet compassionate. "She must have known what you were up against," he said thoughtfully.

Bianca nodded, clutching the Abyss Flower tightly. "She said to use it to protect ourselves… but Kevin, these past year have been hell. I've tried to stay strong, to keep fighting, but every day it gets harder.

And then, when you didn't come back… I thought…" Her voice caught in her throat, and she looked down, trying to hold back more tears.

Kevin's heart ached. He hadn't realized how much his absence would hurt them. He reached out, taking her hand. "Bianca," he said softly, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to leave you alone for so long. I didn't realize how much time had passed. I should have been here…"

Bianca looked up at him, her eyes red and puffy. "It's not just that you were gone, Kevin. It's… everything. The constant fighting, the fear of losing Kiana, the endless battles… and then losing Dad…" She broke down again, her shoulders shaking with silent sobs.

Kevin pulled her closer, wrapping his arms around her protectively. "I'm here now," he whispered. "I won't leave you again."

Bianca nodded against his chest, her tears soaking into his shirt. "Promise?" she asked, her voice small and fragile.

"I promise," Kevin said firmly. "I'll stay with you and Kiana. We'll face this together."

Bianca's grip on him tightened, and for the first time in a long while, she felt a flicker of hope. She knew the battles weren't over—far from it. But having Kevin here, feeling his presence, gave her a sense of strength she had been missing for so long.

Kevin gently lifted her, noticing the dark circles under her eyes. "You need to sleep, Bianca. I can see you haven't slept for nights."

Bianca shook her head stubbornly, but her body betrayed her fatigue. "No… not until…"

Kevin smiled softly and lifted her into his arms, carrying her over to the bed. "Sleep, Bianca," he whispered. "I'm here. I'll keep watch over you and Kiana."

But Bianca clung to him, her eyes wide with lingering fear. "Stay with me," she insisted, her voice barely a whisper. "Please… just stay."

Kevin nodded, lying down beside her. She immediately wrapped her arms around him, holding him close like a lifeline. He felt the tension leave her body, her breathing gradually slowing as she finally let herself rest.

As she drifted into sleep, Kevin felt a surge of emotions. Anger at Otto for what he had done, sadness for the loss of Siegfried, and a fierce determination to protect the two girls who had come to mean so much to him. He gently stroked Bianca's hair, his mind racing with thoughts of what lay ahead.

Outside, the world was still a dangerous place, filled with enemies and uncertainty. But inside that small bunker, for a brief moment, there was peace. And Kevin knew he would do whatever it took to keep it that way, for as long as he could.
