“Having known you. At least for me,” Sean murmurs, lowering his gaze for a moment, embarrassed.
I remain speechless, because no, I wasn’t expecting that kind of answer.
“I-it doesn’t work like that,” I grumble.
“Why?” Sean insists.
“Because it’s not like that!” I answer stubbornly. And yes, I know I look childish. I know I’ve been rude, but I can’t explain myself better than that.
But then Sean moves…
When I see his hands approaching my face, I freeze. His thumbs caress the corners of my mouth before lightly lifting them to create what I’m sure resembles a partial smile. It’s disquieting and I recoil to look at him, my eyes wide.
“What the hell are you doing?” I burst out.
“I wanted to see you smile again…” Sean answers, pulling away, too.
“Are you blind or what?”
Sean’s eyes grow serious and I immediately regret the tone I used. “Maybe I’m stupid, because I don’t really know what you’re talking about.”
