Chapter 6 Another job opportunity

(Sammy's POV)

Three days passed, and I was still irritated. Staying at home all day was a pain in the neck, especially when I had a mother like Trisha, she was a greedy woman who loved nice things. Occasionally I wondered how dad tolerated her all for so long.

My parents were like my role model, never a dull moment, and they were married for so long and even still I never heard them talk about separation, even when they had misunderstandings,

They never let their children know about it which gave me and my twin brother a sense of having a perfect family. I was aware that a perfect family was not possible but with my parents,

it was proof enough, that was why my twin brother worked hard to be a good man in life just like our father. He worked hard day and night to make sure we were well-educated, he took her to the best schools and gave us whatever we wanted. This was my problem and the problem everyone said I had. I was too spoiled from birth hence working seemed like an issue.

But they were all wrong, I wasn't spoiled or cursed; however, I just hated following rules, I preferred being independent and doing my own business unfortunately my brother always found jobs for me

“I said we should find you a husband…a rich husband but no…your father refused that and now look… I have to cook for a grown woman capable of having a family of her own”just like every time I lost my job, mom didn't make anything smooth for me, I sat in my chair munching on breakfast as I listened to her bicker non-stop. Not only that, but I knew she was trying to frustrate me by pointing out my flaws, the flaws I embraced wholeheartedly.

She wanted to have a rich son-in-law, and I preferred not to get married. It was simple and written on my forehead that men weren't my favorite things. I've seen men and all of them were nothing but pigs except my brother.

“Mom, come on…your son will be getting married, soon… I'm sure you will have as many grandkids as you want” I said after a lot of complaining from Trisha, immediately I said that she stopped what she was doing and turned around with a frown on her face, I could sense the anger flushing on her face and I wanted to laugh,

she looked like a red tomato about to explode, and I was afraid she might explode. My mother was beautiful and young despite having grown-up children. She was beautiful with golden blonde hair which I guessed my brother took from, and I took my father's brown hair.

Her blue eyes made her look gorgeous. I couldn't help but actually applaud her for having beautiful children like us, and then again the temper. She was hot-tempered and got upset effortlessly.

Whenever she was in such a mood, not even my father's sweet-talking worked. However, a pile of cash fixed it and like I said, she was greedy

“Tell me…what's lacking with you huh…you are beautiful…intelligent with a good education and a nice background so…what's with this” she was irritated, and I could see it by the raising of her voice as she scolded me, her eyes shone with disdain and I wanted to laugh. It was funny, but yes, we were not poor or filthy rich. But comfortably,

we didn't have luck, and I was happy with my life. I didn't dream of living in a palace with servants swarming the place. I hated rich people more than anything, especially men who thought money made the world go round. Likewise,

I've seen how rich men at school used to treat poor people me inclusive, and I hated that

“Look Trisha…stop worrying about others because you are already married… I prefer not to work, I prefer not to have a husband who is a burden and I certainly….won't shift from this house”I clearly stated my point looking straight into her eyes while chewing on the Delicious casserole she made. , I moaned as I swallowed down feeling satisfied, my mom was rendered speechless, she was looking at me as if she were beginning to rethink things. Not only that, but I knew her expression very well,

And I guessed she was thinking someone switched her daughter at birth and I agreed with her

“I think my baby is somewhere out there” like usual my mom dropped on the chair and cried dramatically with her face buried in her palms. I rolled my eyes in irritation, knowing full well it was just drama before I could say anything to end her dramatic turns.

I heard the front door open and close, and I knew who had just come. Sometimes I wished I could live a day without seeing his face but well he was my annoying twin brother after all, and like a good son my brother pushed the kitchen door open and walked in and like every time my mother who was just crying a second ago and banging her head on the table to just die, sprung out of her chair, no tear in her eyes as her face flushed in delight running to her perfect son who just walked in with gift bags

“Hey, mom… I guess you are already awake Sammy” he greeted mom with a hug and threw a glare at me which I welcomed with a beautiful smile and stuck out my tongue at him

“My good son…the apple of my eye and my soon-to-be married son” like she was trying to irritate me by overpraising my brother, Trisha said the vile words which I frowned upon as I got back to eating. I hate wasting food more than anything, hence ignoring the mother and son who were busy taking out whatever my brother brought for us, and yes, he never brought anything without including me.

No matter how much I disappointed him, my bro loved me a lot. I smiled as I turned to them. My mom was happy, and she was smiling which gave me a sense of satisfaction, she was a good mother despite her flaws and the way she talked.

I knew she just wanted the best for her children, especially me who was a girl

“So what's mine because I don't see anything that says Sammy, “I asked dramatically when mom was claiming everything as hers, upon hearing my words my brother who was already in his navy business suit looked up and approached my table.

He was looking handsome, and I knew the vice president position didn't suit him at all. He deserved to be the president because he was too intelligent for my liking

“Well. As much as I vowed not to help you or…involve myself in your life which is a mess” he stated while pointing out my flaws just like mom was doing, but I cut him off with my hand stopping him from insulting me further when I knew my bad manners.

I cleared my throat and nodded at him to proceed, this time with nice words

“Okay, so the thing is I found you a job” he did, shocking not just me but our greedy mother who paused with what she was doing and joined us at the kitchen island. My mind was laughing, although I had a shocked expression on my face. Just like me, my mom burst out in laughter making my brother to frown

“Her?..a job…sweetie…your sister will get fired before she even steps her feet in the company…just let her be… I'll find her a salon somewhere” my mom proclaimed still laughing as she went back to her parcels and cradled them in her arms before she turned to look at me, laughed at me for a second and left the kitchen laughing even more. I was irritated as I turned my attention to my twin.

“Let's hear it…is it babysitting…cooking for someone…what is it”

“Well…neither of those, actually, since my boss died… I'm in charge of selecting new employees…so I came straight to you…this is your last chance to finish something, Sammy… I'm dead serious” my twin lamented as he looked me in the eyes, I didn't understand why he bothered with me so much, I have been fired five times on different jobs that too without ending a year and just after three days he found another and this time at his prestigious company.

“Fine…when is the interview”instead of refusing his offer, I decided to say yes, hoping the company he worked at could accommodate Samantha Morgan who everyone couldn't handle.

“Great tomorrow 8 am sharp…there's no need to go through ridiculous interviews…all you have to do is answer three or two questions, sign a contract and boom you are hired, "my brother said with excitement as he slammed his palm on the counter making me jerk back not sure why the excitement over me accepting to work at the same company as him. But I chose to go with the flow.

Tomorrow I would start afresh, I wasn't going to talk much and I'd keep my mouth on a leash, Sammy wouldn't cause any trouble for anyone.
