Chapter 8

JAYDEN KNOWS that he slept next to Lucky but when he woke up she was no longer beside him. Maybe she left. Speaking of last night, he remembered what Lucky did to make him fall back to sleep again.

For someone who has a weak heart, she's pretty strong.

He stretched out his arms then got up and moaned as if his head would break in pain.

"Fuck!" He grabbed his head and irritated leave the room to wash his face.

This is his most hated part in drinking. Hangover. It can fucked up anyone's day and today, he's fucked.

Jayden stopped walking when he saw who was in the kitchen cooking.

He blinked and even rubbed his eyes to make sure of what he's seeing.

"Lucky?"

The woman immediately turned to him and a smile drew on her lips as their eyes met.

"Good morning Jayden!" She greeted him warmly.

He blinked a few times and his gaze traveled down her body.

She's wearing a baby pink apron and she's barefoot.

He turned his gaze back to her face. "What are you doing?"

She left the stand in front of the stove to show him what she was doing.

"Look!" She said with a wide smile. "I'm making chicken soup for you!"

"Oh." He can see that.

"For your hangover." She said with a smile. "Grand-mommy always make chicken soup for Grand-daddy when he has a hangover." She took a glass of water and then took some medicine over the top of the island counter and gave it to him. "Here, this will also help."

Jayden was forced to accept the glass of water and the medicine.

"Drink it." Lucky said and turned her attention back to what she was cooking.

A few seconds later he just stared at the woman before he recovered from his strange feeling and drink the medicine.

After taking the medicine given to him, he walked closer to the sink to wash his face and something did not escape from his sight. There was red spot on Lucky's neck, because the girl was just close to him he can clearly see it.

He knew what that is! And it's making his blood boil! He's pretty sure he slept like a baby last night and nothing happened.

So why does she have a fucking hickey?!

He could not restrain himself from caressing that part of her neck.

"What is it?" Lucky immediately asked him.

His eyes focused on the part of her neck that was red. "Where did you get this?"

Lucky frowned. "What do you mean where? What is it?"

"This hickey."

Lucky kept frowning at him as she blinked. Then her lips formed into an 'o' like she now remembered where she get the hickey.

"You did that to me." She said.

He stilted. "I did this?"

She nodded and looked at him in amazement. "Yeah, in the Jone's house last night, remember? You bit my neck."

His lips parted. "Oh..." Was he really drunk last night that he didn't remember that? "Ahmm...what else did I do to you?"

She acted like she was thinking then counted her finger as she went through what he had done. "You hugged me then you bit me on the neck then you said so much. You're so talkative last night---" Suddenly she gasped. "Holy molly!" Her eyes widened. "My soup!"

She quickly turned her back on him and then took care of the chicken soup she was making which seemed to be overcooked, she turned off the stove before facing him again.

"Why are you asking? Don't you remember?" She asked.

"Not really..." He's starting to remember, "Ahm, did we kiss?"

She quickly shook her head. "I told you, no kissing."

He actually felt disappointed. "Oh, okay."

She narrowed her eyes on him. "You answers are short again." She tsked. "You're back to being Jayden again. You're so weird last night. "

"Define weird." He said as he distracted himself from washing his face.

"You're so noisy."

He finished washing and then faced the girl. "I apologize. It won't happen again."

He was surprised when Lucky left in front of him to get a tissue but that astonishment disappeared when she returned and used the tissue she had taken to wipe the water off his face.

"You should have brought a towel." She said as the tissue dried his face.

And he just stand there. Looking at Lucky.

"There." She smiled brightly at him. "All dry."

His eyes stared down at her lips. She's smiling brightly again. It seems that she have forgiven him. He remembered what she had said last night that her heart was soft, that it could easily be affected by those around her and he was one of them.

She's a real softy.

"Let's eat." She said that wake him up from daydreaming.

He let her pulled him towards the table and pulled him out a chair.

"Come on, sit, Jayden."

And he did.

He has never been this submissive to anyone.

What is this woman doing to him?

He wondered if he would let her out of the apartment or reject what she had cooked when he remembered that she had a weak heart. Maybe something bad will happen to the woman again because of him.

He didn't want to hurt her again. He remembered telling her last night that he'll take good care of her heart.

"Charan!" Her face was happy and there was a bright smile on her lips as she laid the bowl of chicken soup in front of him. "I made it with care, love and lots of effort...so enjoy!"

He nodded quietly at her and tasted her cooked chicken soup.

Jayden almost cussed because of the saltiness of her cooking.

"Is it delicious?"

He looked up at Lucky and saw her hopeful expression.

"It's a bit salty."

"Just a bit?" She was grinning from ear to ear. "Yey! Maybe next time it won't be salty anymore. Yey! Yey! Yey!"

He secretly laughed at what she was doing. She's like a kid while shaking her hips happily.

"You're like a kid." He commented.

Lucky just chuckled and fill his bowl with more soup. "There, eat a lot okay? To get rid of your hangover. I'm going back to my apartment to take a bath. I feel like I stink."

His hand automatically grabbed her wrist and pulled her down close to him, and bringing his nose close to her neck.

He smelled her. "You smell good enough to eat."

She turned to him while their faces were still close and their lips were almost touching.

He felt the awakening of that part in his body.

Jayden actually gulped at their nearness.

And it seems that he was not the only one who felt the tension of their closeness. He can see how Lucky's eyes dilated.

"Lucky?"

"Y-yes?"

"I suggest you go home." He whispered softly as he looked at her lips. "I might not be able to control myself and kiss you."

She slowly turned her face away from him and took off her apron and left it on the side of the table then silently walked out of his apartment.

He closed his eyes and tried picturing Sophia in his head, he tried to remember their memories together but instead of Sophia, he saw Lucky's bright smile and how she caress his hair and face last night.

He opened his eyes and clenched his fist. "Fuck!"

LUCKY'S HEART feels weird again. It doesn't hurt but it feels like something's strange. She can't determine what it is, but she feels there is something strange there. She has to figure out what is it.

She has to take good care of herself.

Until she took a bath, she carried a strange feeling in her heart. Until she finished and got dressed.

And since it's Saturday, she doesn't need to go to work so she entertains herself by watching TV.

She was in the middle of watching a movie when there was a knock on the door of her apartment.

She immediately went to the door to open it but when she remembered what Jayden had said not to open the door lightly, she stopped and first asked who was outside.

"Who is it?" She asked.

"Jayden."

She quickly opened the door then stared at him in astonishment. "Do you need something?"

"Are you doing something?"

She shook her head. "Nothing. Just watching a movie on TV."

"Can I come in?" He asked.

She widen the opening of her door. "Come on in."

He entered and went straight to the living room. She closed the door and locked it before following Jayden into the living room.

"Does your head still hurt?" She asked the man as she sat on the long sofa while he sat on the single sofa. "Did the medicine I gave you help you?"

"Yeah."

"Do you want me to change the movie?" She asked because she was watching a children's movie because it makes her feel relaxed.

"No." Jayden replied then stood up and moved to sit on the long sofa.

Then he suddenly lay down and made her thighs as his pillow.

"Jayden, get up ---"

"I have a headache."

She did not continue what she was about to say, she just gently massaged his forehead, down to his ear and above his head. "I thought that the medicine I gave you would work?"

"Yeah, it did."

"Then why does your head still hurt?"

Instead of answering her question, he caught her eye. "Can I stay? My head really hurts."

She nodded. She did not want him to be alone while he's hurting. She knows how that feels and it's scary and lonely. "Why did you drink so much? Now your head is aching."

"I'll be okay." His eyes are closed. "Just keep doing what you're doing."

"Okay."

Lucky continued massaging Jayden's forehead while she watched her favorite animated film, Sing. It's a musical and she likes watching it again and again. This movie makes her happy even though it's a children's movie.

'Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did

Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid.'

She joins Johnny The Gorilla in singing as her arm moves as if she was dancing.

'I'm still standing after all this time

Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind.'

'I'm still standing, yeah, yeah, yeah

I'm still standing, yeah, yeah, yeah.'

She stopped singing at the same time as she remembered when she might have disturbed the resting Jayden.

She bit her upper lip. "Did I bother you?"

He shook his head.

She stroked his hair. "Does your head still hurt?"

"Yeah..." Then he grabbed one of her free hand and dragged it towards his cheek down to his jaw.

"It hurts here." He said.

Lucky frowned at his jaw. "You okay? Why does it hurt there?"

"I don't know." He looked up her again. "Touch me?"

She stared at the man and that's when it sank into her mind. She has watched many Romantic Films so she seems to know what he wants.

"Do you want me to be affectionate to you?" She asked Jayden.

"Yes."

She nodded. "Why?"

"I just want to."

He is broken than you can ever imagine. She remembered what Lia said.

She smiled at Jayden. "Okay." She lowered the volume of the TV and then gently stroked his hair, his forehead, his chin, his nose, and the edge of his lips.

A small gasped escaped Lucky's lips when Jayden captured her index finger in between his lips and his tongue licks its tip.

Lucky bit her lower lip as he finally inserted her finger into his mouth and played with it with his tongue.

And she doesn't know why she felt a tingling sensation on her stomach, traveling down to her belly.

And for some reason, she didn't stop him.

Maybe because she likes it too.

She just stared at what Jayden was doing until he released her finger from his mouth and gently caressed and kissed her hand.

And while kissing her hand softly, he looked at her.

There's that strange emotion in her heart again. She's afraid it might cause her heart to ache again.

"Can you please leave?" She asked Jayden. "Please? I, ahm, please?"

He got up and then quietly left her apartment.

She, on the other hand, touched her heart and gently massaged it.

Her heart does not hurt but there is something really strange that she can not identify.

"It's okay..." She softly tapped her heart. "You're strong...you can get through this."

She leaned her body on the back of the sofa then took a few deep breaths. When she no longer felt the strange feeling in her chest, she left the apartment to go to Jayden to apologize for sending him away, but she was surprised because he was just outside the door and leaning against the wall.

"You feeling okay?" He immediately asked when their eyes met.

She nodded. "Yeah. Sorry."

"It's okay." He took one step between them and then his lips touched her forehead. "I think I shocked you."

She touched her forehead where he kissed her then she blinked at the man. "You're weird since last night. You bit me on the neck, you also kissed me on the shoulder, and what you did earlier with my finger and now you kissed me on my forehead. Something is definitely going on with you."

"Don't ask. I still don't know what this is."

The frown on her forehead deepened. "Okay. I won't ask. Just tell me when you already figure it out. I'm also confused by your actions. I mean, I know how to differentiate a relationship between a man and a woman. Grand-mommy taught me. And this, " She pointed him and herself. "This is not friendship."

"Good, because I don't want to be friends with you." Jayden said then removed a few strands of hair that covered her forehead.

She looked into his eyes. "Why not? I want to be friends with you."

He blinked in shock at her. "Are you friend-zoning me?"

"What's that?"

He was still looking at her in disbelief. "Nothing...just a term used for subtle rejection."

She was even more confused. "Who rejected who?"

He facepalmed. "Seriously? After you friend-zoned me, that's all you can say?"

She's confused. "What did I do?" She's really clueless. "Did I say something you didn't like?"

"Yeah. There is."

"What did I say?"

"You said you want to be friends with me."

"So?" She shrugged. "What's wrong with that?"

"I really don't want you to be my friend." He said irritated tone.

"Why?" She simply massaged the part of her chest where her heart was, "I thought you would never hurt me again? That you will take care of my heart? Then what is this? You're hurting me right now, Jayden. "

"I don't want to be friends with you Lucky."

"Why? Did I do something wrong that I was not deserving to be your friend?"

Full of frustration, he rubbed his palms on his own face and then suddenly cupped her face.

"Because if we're friends," he looked at her lips earnestly. "I can't do this." He said and suddenly just kissed her on the lips.
