You insist on saying "run away".

Hayley POV

"And where are we going?" I didn't even think about it amid so many feelings, I just wanted to follow Klaus and stop him from doing something stupid. Because Klaus was stupid by nature.

"For a brothel, of course" he said, smiling sarcastically.

"So your plans were to run away to a brothel?" I asked, joining the game.

"You insist on saying run away" Klaus said more seriously, stressing the word run while keeping his eyes on the road.

"Isn't that what we're doing?" I asked, looking out the window.

"No. We are disappearing. Now there is nothing to run for" he ended the matter. Klaus hated looking like a coward, he preferred this to be an adventure, a trick of the mighty king's disappearance.

He was right: there was no escape. But we were still. Running away from the past, running away from people, and, finally, running away from ourselves.

The car was going so fast down the empty avenue that I could hear it cutting the air, Hope was awake looking at us with those green eyes. Klaus then turned on the radio, Photograph: Ed Sheeran was playing. I thought he would turn it off or something, but he just let the music play.

The wind hit my face, and the sunlight illuminated the car, the music filled the room, and I felt something I hadn't felt for a long time: security, comfort, and even… happiness. That was Klaus, one of the people I trusted most in the world. But he was different; he seemed calm.

I don't think I ever met him without being in the middle of a war, and as they say: ''Extreme situations call for extreme measures'', Klaus took this a little too seriously.

Klaus POV

Hayley looked like she was in a photograph, the sun was shining on her face, and the wind was blowing her long hair. I looked at her, and she looked at me and then I just smiled.

Hayley POV

That classic crooked smile, I loved that smile, it reminded me of happy moments ...

The timing was excellent, but I was still thinking about Elijah, I haven't forgotten him, and I know I still love him. Sooner or later, we'll have to talk, I'm just postponing the inevitable ...

Klaus POV

Hayley reminded me of Cami.

FLASHBACK

We were in the car, me driving and Cami at my side. The wind was blowing in her blond hair, her perfume was spreading around the room, and the sun was shining on her face.

"So Klaus, tell me how you managed to spend so much time running away and fighting ... You know I'm still your therapist" she brought up the subject.

I just kept silent.

"Okay, it is not because I am your therapist, but because I have been doing this for a short time and I already think my head is going to explode, which makes me think how someone can take it for centuries ..."

"We always have a reason to continue, we always hope that it will end. After a while you get used to it."

"Vampires are not good with feelings" she found, looking out the window.

"No, they aren't" I agreed.

END FLASHBACK

I found myself smiling when I remembered that.
