Save Log 2: Gambling Is Illegal?

The host put the pile of cards beside him. Then he pulled out three cards from the deck and put them down face up revealing the contents of the cards.

There were a bunch of symbols indicating numbers. 2, 6 and 15.

"Let's begin shall we?" said Kernel.

"I will but how do we play this game anyway?"

"You don't know how to play…..oh right, you never gambled before."

I shrugged in reply. I have never gambled before in my life. Not even on Earth.

"I will explain the rules or will you Helburg?"

"Hmmmmm!"

"Alright, I will do it then."

What the heck he just said? Did I hear it wrong or was it just a big hmmmm!

"This game is about getting the numbers up. The cards you are seeing now lying on the table is the target. If you can get the total number of your cards more than them, you win. Or else you lose the bet.”

“ Oh, ok. So I'm just gonna keep getting cards until I have more numbers than those cards. It's freaking easy.”

“ Yeah, if it's that easy. You can only have three cards. Sometimes you can only win by two cards.”

“ Oh, there are card limits. Alright this is pretty hard I guess. I have to rely on my luck.”

Kernel went ahead and drew a card from the pile and put it on his hand. Turning to us, he said,

“ Go ahead and pick a card now.”

Glider stood up and drew a card as well. But he picked one from the middle. Didn’t expect that to come.

Furara and Lina were standing behind as an audience. Both of them observing the game with their faces saying ‘What the heck is going on here?’

“ Why did he pick a card from the middle? Isnt that cheating?”

“ No it’s not bro. It’s the rules. You can pick a card from top, middle or bottom.”

“ You didn’t say anything about that.”

“ Just pick your card already.”

Finally, I stood up and grabbed a card from the top of the deck. It was 10. Huh, nice I think.

“ You got………...10. Hahaha….we are gonna lose.”

“ Eh? Why? What did you get?”

He showed me the card which was zero. Man, this is bad! If we can't get a 20 next time. We are gonna lose.

“ Heheh. Looks like Hanjiro is gonna lose. Get your money ready Furara.”

“ F-fine.”

Why the hell are they gambling on our gamble?

Kernel picked a card again from the deck and put it on his hand. He was showing any expression.

" Another rule that needs to be mentioned now. Since you two are playing together, you two can only have three cards in total. Yes, not six cards."

" This is our last resort. Hanji, you pick. I believe in you." Glider said with a dramatic tone patting on my shoulder.

"What was that for?"

Anyway, I stood up and grabbed a card from the bottom of the pile. Another zero….

"I am gonna go with these two. I bet 10000 azuls."

"We bet 100,000!" Glider shouted all of a sudden.

What the heck is he doing?! We totally lost the game! Why is he trying to make all our money gone?

"Hmmm."

Kernel dropped his card…..6, 18 and 7. Yep, we lost alright. Goodbye our precious 100,000.

"What the?! Three zero?! Imposibble. An amature like you?" Kernel started to racket after Glider showed our cards. He was grining at Kernel. What the hell is going on?

Helburg gave the 10,000 azuls that Kernel bet on.

"But, we got 10 and two zero. How the hell we won?"

"Hmm? Oh yes, another thing. You will win if you have the same numbers three times. Also, the two digit numbers only have the value that the second digit has. Like for 10 it's a zero. Not 10."

"Aa..I get it now. I guess we won with three zero."

"Heheh Lina san. Looks like I won the bet. Get ready to pay the money for my roast beef." Furara gave a nasty smile which I couldn't see because of that hood.

"Yo-you don't show mer-mercy when it comes to food huh? SPARE ME FOR THIS TIME PLEASE! How could you lose Kernel?! Aren't you the best gambler of this town?!"

"Not gonna happen. You said you will pay for it if I win the bet."

They started to argue behind our back. I will teach them a lesson later.

"I-I will go for another round. I went too easy on boy. This time you alone will play." Kernel said banging the table.

"Eh? Why not me? I can play well, you know? Oh well. I guess you are by yourself again."

"Wait, hang on!"

Glider got off from the seat and joined Furara and Lina. They started another bet. What the heck…

"Helberg, begin the game."

The intimidating host began to shuffle the deck and prepared for the next round. I gulped noticing the intense glare from the Gamble lord, Kernel Golvonia.

The game is still ongoing. There are now other spectators other than Furara, Lina and Glider. Almost all the people have gathered around our table. Kernel's face was twisting with anger.

The game of oicho Kabu was canceled and we are playing a dice game.

"I rolled three six again. Another win..."

The whole crowd cheered along with Lina and Glider. Kernel was trying to pull his hair off. The 51,000 azuls were now handed to me. I now won a total of 214,000 azuls.

"An-another round. I hav-have more money…..shit! That was the remaining money."

"My god, I couldn't someone like you could beat Kernel the gambling lord. Well, he is one of the landlords here." said Glider.

"Good job Hanji. I got 50,000 azuls because of you. I am proud of ya."

Everyone was cheering me on from the back. Helburg was silently cleaning the table we were playing.

"I-I bet on my maid. I will give her to you if you win."

"What the heck old man?! Stop betting with your maid. What if you lose her?"

"It doesn't matter. I will get another one. Hey! Anyone here grab my wallet from the mansion!"

"Yes sire!"

Two men went running out of the place. Kernel has lost his mind after losing the 14th time.

"Yo-you don't need to bet on anything. Lets just play….."

"There is no fun if there is nothing on bet. I bet on my maid. Now, let's go again. Helburg, get the dice ready."

Helburg picked up the dices and gave them a polish. All of the spectators are excited to go for another round.

"Oh look, another sixes. I guess it's my win again."

"Oohhhh!"

The crowd cheered once again. Kernel's face was all red because of anger.

"I can't, I can't believe this! How?! How is this possible?! I am not sure how but you are cheating!"

"I am not actually. I am just pretty lucky today I guess."

"This is unacceptable! I don't believe you! Tell me! Tell me how you are cheati..!"

Kernel all of a sudden fell on the ground. He passed out getting too angry.

"Lord!"

Few people went ahead and picked up Kernel. They left with him without saying anything.

"Wow, you knocked him out. You are in trouble now." said Glider.

"Ar-are serious?"

"Nah, I am just kidding. You will get pretty famous after this. I am glad I invited you here."

"I guess Hanji is good at gambling at least."

"What do you mean at least? I am pretty good at other things!"

"I am the one who deserves the praise. After all, I helped you out." said Draken.

"Dr-Draken?"

He teleported away from the scene. What the heck was that about? Why was he here in the first palce?

"You almost got the money you lost from buying the juice and wine. Good job I guess." said Furara.

"....let's get the heck out of here. I don't like this place."

"Don't worry. I will get you out alright. Anyway, can I have 50% of that…"

"Hell no."

He sniffed after I harshly disagreed. I won the whole thing by myself. I won't just give it to him for doing nothing. Also, I will give the money to the orphanage I saw that day exploring the town.

"I am hungry, let's go eat something fancy with that money." suggested Furara as she was rubbing her abdomen.

On a second thought, I think the orphanage looks pretty fine. They will do good without this money. Let's just eat some food for now.

"Alright, we are going to that restaurant. I am giving you a treat as well Glider."

"Oh! Thanks man! You are the best! Should I invite Jerkin too?"

"I am good with that."

"Alright."

We walked out of the alley way and toward the resturant to cool down our hunger. Today is really my day!
