The front door was pushed open by a tired Melanie. She slumped into the couch and sighed as she hit her head against the edge of the couch.
Cursing, she pushed her self down so her leg was hanging off the couch. A small ping made her open her eyes sluggishly and she groaned while pulling her phone from the pocket of her shorts.
"Thanks for bringing me home, are you home yet?." The text from Tiffany read.
"No need to thank me and yes i'm home."
She put her phone back into her pocket and turned so she was facing the front of the couch when she heard another ping. She sat up angrily and read the message from her aunt.
"Are you with Bryan or at your father's house?."
Grumbling at her aunt's stupid concern she quickly typed in a reply.
"Ugh I'm at your husband's sister's husband's house okay? Now stop texting me and let me have a good sleep." She snapped through the text. After hitting send she felt a little bad for snapping but shrugged. It was not something she could control when pissed and she was pissed right now but for different reasons.
She was pissed that her uncle had to pull that stunt, she was pissed that the man at the club had that effect on her, she was pissed at the redhead slut for ever going close to the man and she was pissed at her whole life.
After a while of just rolling around on the uncomfortable couch she was formerly planning to spend her night in, she thought it was better to sleep on the floor of her room than sleep on the couch so she stood up. It took a while for her to steady her shaking legs but she did and walked slowly into her room.
She collapsed on her feather like bed as soon as she got into her room and curled into a ball. Sleep didn't come like she thought it would, probably because her mind kept wandering to a particular person, soon she felt her eyes close but not before she made up her mind to visit her uncle's company the next day.
The blinding light which shore into Melanie's room caused her to squint her eyes and turn to lie on her right side, she hugged her Hello Kitty pillow to herself and prepared to go back to sleep when something popped into her mind. She grunted and considered sleeping for a few more hours but she couldn't, not if she wanted to make it to her uncle's company early before the traffic congestion started.
After two minutes of rolling around she convinced herself that Tiffany was worth it and stood from her bed. She yawned and scrunched her nose up from the smell that came out from her mouth. She thought of just brushing her teeth and going to the company in her pyjamas but shook her head against it and headed for the bathroom.
Clothes after clothes were thrown on the floor of Melanie's walk in closet. She searched all through for a casual wear but the only thing close to casual in her closet are T-shirts and shorts which was inappropriate to wear to a company, not that she minded but the last time she went to her uncle's company in those she was almost thrown out by her uncle's new PA who didn't know her so instead of risking being thrown out again she settled for a thin strap black jumpsuit which stopped just below her buttocks.
She put on the material and stood in front of the mirror, taking out her brush she spent almost 20 minutes brushing out the knots from her hair. Her blonde hair was naturally curly, so curly that any small breeze leaves another set of knots in it so you can imagine why she takes a brush everywhere. Taking a glimpse at the clock in her room she gave up trying to brush out all the knots and packed her thick hair into a rough bun. She decided to go for a natural look and removed the ring in her nose. She rushed out of her room forgetting she was barefoot and rushed back in to put on her favorite white Nike sneakers.
She grabbed a car key and ran down the stairs, ignoring one of her step sister's call, Evangeline.
Evangeline was the youngest of them, she was 17 and in high school and she was the tolerable one out of the two, the reason being she liked Melanie's hair and loved to comb it out. That was the only time they bonded but Melanie still likes her than Taylor who was a pain in the ass all the time and no doubt hates that her sister talks and interact with Melanie at all.
Melanie sometimes caught Taylor telling Evangeline not to talk to her or interact so she understands when Evangeline ignores her or acts rude.
Melanie made her way into the garage and drove out her car. Just like she expected the highway was crowded with different cars and she knew there was no way she was getting to the company early which means that she might not meet her uncle who would probably be having a board meeting or would have gone to the other branches to see how things are going. That was her uncle's Monday schedule.
The rest of the ride was full of her tossing her middle finger at the drivers that complained of her overtaking them and her cursing those that overtook her.
She finally got to the company and when she checked the time it was 9:15a m which meant that her uncle was either in a board meeting or out. Melanie quickly entered the company and received the usual stares but those that stared didn't stare enough fearing she was going to do to them what she did for the former receptionist who disapproved of her dressing saying it was inappropriate. And i'm sure you can guess what happened after from the word 'former'.
She dashed into the elevator and after imputing the floor she was heading to she waited impatiently for the elevator to take her to her destination. After what felt like hours which was only minutes the elevator stopped and the doors open. Again she dashed towards her uncle's office and opened the door.
Like she expected her uncle's chair was empty which only meant one thing.
She turned to her right towards a glass door and confirmed her theory........
Kevin was seated at the head of the long table, his long blonde hair combed to the back not sticking around like it had been the day before. His blue suit and trousers fitted like it was made for him which is probably true. Like always, he was without a tie, the only time he ever wore a tie was on his sister's wedding, he didn't even wear it on his own wedding. His white shirt first two buttons where open showing some skin. Her uncle was hot, no wonder why tiff wouldn't leave him after all he had done to her. His outfit made his deep blue eyes shore. Kevin and Melanin looked alike. They had the same hair colour and only their eyes colour was different because Melanie's own is a deep grey which she got from her father.
She stopped drooling and took in the scene. Kevin's new PA was seated beside him. The table had eight chairs on each side which were all occupied except one at the other end. They all listened attentively as Kevin was telling them something she couldn't hear from where she was. His PA was jotting whatever he was saying and some others too were writing. She saw her uncle's looking towards the empty chair many times and checking his wrist watch which led her to believe he was waiting for someone.
After a while of waiting waving for her uncle to look towards her she gave up and left her uncle's office promising to return the next day early. She had to sit him down and talk to him about how he was treating Tiffany. She knew if she called him he'd cut the call immediately she mentions his wife's name.
She entered the elevator and instructed it to take her to the first floor. Her phone buzzed in her hands and she held it to her face to read the text. It was from another friend, Kat.
"I heard from Bryan that you're back from the hospital are you ok?." Kat was one of her good friends who truly cared about her so she typed in a reply as the door to the elevator open to the first floor. She walked out at the same time typing on her phone.
"Yeah babe, i'm good. Thanks for ask--" she mistakenly pressed send as she fell to the floor. She looked up to see that she collided with someone. A man. She looked down at her body as she felt something hot burn her skin. Coffee was spilled all over her chest. Hot coffee. Fuming, she stood up and pushed the man hard that he landed on his butt. She was about to burst out laughing when she heard his voice. She looked up to a familiar face.
"You again?." He grumbled.
