Chapter 2: Clumsy

I wake up to bright morning daylight and it takes a moment to adjust to it before I look around. I'm in my room. The question is, how did I get here?

I bet either Landon or my mom brought me up here. Most likely Landon. I try sitting up yet my head hurts too much, so I fall back down onto my pillow. "Mom?" I say loudly, wondering if she'll hear me.

I hear shuffling outside of my room and my mom comes in. "Yes?" she asks.

"Can you get me something to numb the pain in my head?" I ask and she nods and shuffles back out of the room.

She comes back with a glass of water and a couple pills and I shove them down my throat and swallow quickly, throwing the water down with it. I groan as another round of pain hits me in the back of the head, but the pain slowly eases away as I down more water.

My mom then leaves and lets me get ready for school, which it turns out I'm late for. I scramble around, getting ready for school before putting on socks with grips so I don't slip again. I've always been known to be extremely clumsy. I then scramble down the stairs and put my shoes, also grabbing my backpack from beside the couch.

"Mom! I'm going to school!" I yell before hearing an 'okay' from somewhere in the kitchen and then I sprint out the front door. I start getting a light headache. Slowing down, I jog down the sidewalk and towards school. I make it there within five minutes and finally figure out that my mom let me sleep in because I think I might have a slight concussion. I should probably stay away from bright lights and loud noises for a little while. I'll go to the doctor's later.

As I reach the school, I walk through the front doors and to the office, not looking for detention for being late. Once I reach the office, I walk over to the front desk and look at the lady sitting at the desk. "May I help you?" she asks.

"Um, my mom let me sleep in because I hurt my head last night so I'm kinda wondering if I can get a late pass." I say awkwardly. As I stand there, a pain in the back of my head gets harder to take as the lady sits there writing me a late pass.

After the lady hands me my late pass, I walk quickly to the nurse for something more to take away the pain in the back of my head. As I turn the next corner to get to the nurse's office, I run into something hard, then my head swings to the side and hits the wall. I start getting dizzy because of what happened yesterday, and start falling to the ground. I then feel large arms slip around my waist and catch me before I fall.

I look around the person holding me to clear my vision of blurriness, then turn to look at the mysterious person who caught me. They're a guy, and I don't know their name, but I've seen them in a few of my other classes.

"Are you alright?" the mysterious person asks me.

"I think so." I say back, ready to really go to the nurse's office now. I then try taking a stop forwards but start stumbling and almost fall to the floor but the mysterious person catches me again. "T-thanks." I stutter, laughing lightly at myself.

"Let's get you to the nurse's office." he says, his arm around my waist keeping me stable as we walk to the nurse's office.

"I was actually already headed there. I hit my head pretty hard last night after my socks caused me to slip again and hit my head on the floor." I say, laughing at myself again.

"You sound like an extremely clumsy person, what's your name?" He asks, and I'm glad because I don't know theirs either.

"Londyn. What's yours?" I ask him back.

"Drake." He says.

"Alright, Drake. We're here now." I say, motioning to the nurse's office.

"Oh." He says and I roll my eyes. Guys.

I grab the doorknob and twist it until I hear a click and the door opens. Drake doesn't let go of my waist and I blush at the slight touch. "You can uh, let go of me now.

"Nah, Clumsy." He says, calling me 'clumsy' for some reason even though he knows my real name.

"It's Londyn to you." I say, contemplating why this random dude is still holding an arm around my waist.

"Nah." he says as we walk into the nurse's office and the nurse looks up at us.

"I uh, need something for a bad headache. " I say and she nods.

"How bad is it?" the nurse asks.

"I just hit it on the floor hard last night. My mom gave me some sort of pill to numb the pain in my head a little while ago, I just got to school." I say, explaining it to the nurse as she rummages through cabinets for what is probably the medicine I need. I also start ignoring Drake because I would eventually go insane if I didn't ignore how close he was to me.

She hands me a couple pills and I throw them down my throat without water. I feel both the nurse's and Drake's eyes on me and I turn my head to look at both of them. "What? Never seen a person swallow a pill before?" I say, laughing.

"You should drink lots of water for the next few days, more than normal. It will help with possible headaches." The nurse says.

"Thank you." I say.

"Your welcome hun." she says and as I start turning around to walk to class and remember that Drake was currently holding me up.

"You can seriously let go of me now, I can walk on my own you know." I say, laughing and his towering figure just looks at me and smiles.

"Nah, what class do you have?" He asks, still not letting go of me, and his grip gets tighter. All I feel are butterflies.

"Chemistry. I'm in your class." I say rolling my eyes.

"Oh." he says stupidly.

"Yeah, so you might as well let me go, you're gonna have to eventually." I say, seriously trying to get him to just let go of me, but his grip gets tighter. I just roll my eyes and ignore it for the time being as we walk to chemistry.

Arriving at the class, I realize, "You don't have a late pass." I say dumbly.

He looks down at me and smirks. "That's because I'm skipping." He says. "Meet me in the parking lot after school."

He finally lets go of me, turns around, and walks off, any remnants of butterflies in my stomach finally leaving.

Oh no. Not him.

Well, there goes going to the doctor anytime soon.
