Angel

Leo laid there on the floor of the new building he was in.  Glass shards had penetrated his arms and cut his clothes and legs. He slowly pulled the glass out of his arms due to the pain and ear of what might happen.  As he removed one shard blood began to ooze alarmingly fast.  This was what he was afraid of.  He took off his shirt and tied tightly around the wound.

That being taken care of now, he could now try to figure out his location.  "This must be that museum that was near my apartment building."  He said as he looked at all the unique objects surrounding him.  "Not that it matters, I need to find a way out of here as well, that fire is everywhere."

He walked through the building carefully, sneaking around corners in fear that a beast may jump out at him.  He made his way until he found a guard's room.  Screens lined the room, none of them functioned due to the lack of electricity, but Leo imagined that one could see every bit of the museum from here.  At the edge of the desk he found an AM/FM radio that was battery operated.  "Score!"  He said as he picked up the radio and turned it on.  He scanned through the frequencies until he found one that worked.

At first there was a lot of interference. "Apocalypse."  Is the first word he could fully understand.  He made minor adjustments until the message became clearer.  "The entire world is on fire! The end is now! Demons and beasts are roaming the streets within the blaze!  This is our end! The apocalypse!  Repent now!  Repent now!"  The message continued on a loop.

Normally Leo would dismiss such a claim, but the events he had experienced so far made him inclined to believe it.  "The entire world?"  He said softly in disbelief.  "That must be why no one was online for the game, the whole world is on fire."

Loud noises could be heard from outside the room.  Leo peeked outside of the door and saw a monster.  Unlike the one he saw earlier this one was a large creature with the top of a woman and the bottom of a snake.  Its head was also that of a snake.  Red scales covered his body.  The creature also possessed two arms and hands.  It slithered around the room that it was in until it stopped and looked directly at Leo.

"Shit!" He said as he darted out of the guard's room making a run for it.  The monster followed him, grabbing at him with its arms as he ran from it.

"Yessss" the snake monster said.  "Run little human, ssssweat is such a good ssseasoning."

"Oh, fuck it talks." Leo said as he continued to run.  He looked around for anything that he could use.  The first thing he saw was an old spear, a really old spear, in the prehistoric exhibit.  He assumed it must have been some caveman artifact, but a spear is a spear.  He ran towards it and grabbed it as he passed by. He then pivoted it so that he turned to face his attacker.  He pointed the spear directly at her face.

The snake monster stopped and laughed.  "Mortal weaponssss can out hurt ussss."  She said as she grabbed the tip of the spear.  "Let me sssshow you."  With that she took the spear and stabbed herself in the chest.  A look of surprise came upon her face as the spear pierced her flesh.  "What!  Thisss cannot be!"  He said while blood began pouring from her mouth.  "Mortal weaponsssss should not be able to…"

Before she could finish her sentence the spear began to glow in Leo's hands.  The years and years of age and neglect on the spear melted in mere seconds.  What was left was a golden and white spear that radiated power.

"No!!!" The snake monster yelled.  The light became more intense and the monster began to turn to ash starting from the stab wound.  As the beast decayed in front of his eye's Leo was shocked. He was even more surprised when he heard a voice inside of his head.

The voice sounded like a mechanical woman.  "Progenitor race confirmed.  Accessing. Accessing."

"What the…"  Leo started.

"Eradication of demon complete."  The voice said as the snake fully transformed into a pile of ash.  "New orders?"

"What is going on?!"  Leo said in a panic.

"Unknown query." The voice answered.  "Please restate the query."

"Who are you?!"  Leo tried a different question.

"A better query would be what."  The voice said.  "Query confirmed.  What am I.  I am a weapon created by the progenitors to defeat the demons.  Code name Angel."

"What is a progenitor?"  Leo was very confused.

"Query Confirmed."  Angel said.  "You are a progenitor.  Codename Angel only functions in a progenitor's hands.  Reactivation required demon blood.  Reactivation complete."

"Okay that got me literally no answers."  Leo said frustrated. "Tell me this then, how long has it been since your last activation.  That might give me some clue."

"Query Confirmed."  Angel said.  "Time since the last activation is two hundred thousand cycles."

"Angel?  How long is a cycle?"  Leo said with widened eyes.

"Query Confirmed."  Angel said.  "A cycle is the unit of measurement for one trip around the local star."

"Two hundred thousand years?!" Leo shouted.  "Are you some kind of alien device?!"

"Query unrecognized."  Angel said.  "Finding suitable query.  Query found.  Codename Angel is a device of the progenitor race.  Progenitor race is intergalactic in scale.  Progenitor race cannot be alien to fellow progenitors."

Leo stopped to think about what Angel just informed him.  He thought about his next question.  "What happened to the progenitor race?"

"Query confirmed."  Angel said.  "Scanning. Scanning.  No detection of advanced progenitor civilization in this solar system.  Scanning.  Scanning.  No other Angel detected.  Scanning. Scanning.  Fewer than 10 progenitors remain on this planet.  Conclusion. War with demons unsuccessful.  Final solution must have been initiated."
