Chapter 21

Staring up at the massive cathedral that promised sanctuary to all no matter the hour, Chris paused. It wasn't the building that caused him to hesitate. Nothing to fear from the gray stone, the rocky pores steeped with age, or the windows comprised of intricate stained glass. A moue did pull his lips taut at the sight of a cross atop the steeple, however. The universal sign of Christianity.

It should be noted that Chris had never actually gone into a church before. It didn't take a genius to realize that the supposed Antichrist and religion, especially Christian-based ones, were anathema. No one could accurately predict what would happen if he entered, and given he knew for a fact that holy water made him sick, and religious symbols hurt his eyes, he worried.

Apparently, so did Isobel because she told him to, "Go ahead."

"Ladies first."

"Since when do you have manners?" She arched a brow at him, looking entirely too cute.
