Hell's Emissary - The Legendary Tamer

My skin bears reminders of yesterday. They are roadside markers of my trips and falls, remnants I intend to burn to ashes, place in an urn and bury somewhere. People tell me to move on. Build a bridge. Get over it. When you clench your teeth and forge ahead you convince yourself the mind can be a clean slate untainted by dark colors of past trauma. You pretend that your skies will always be clear. A palette of gold and red, sunrise and sunset. Yet in sunshine a dark shadow lingers behind us every step. Our shadow wilfully follows, keeps pace with every step. I unclenched my teeth, ran my fingers along my scars. They whispered to me. I listened. I held hands with my shadow, now we walk together. Some scars never heal but how else could I know the way forward?.. So, I claim this body, this mind, this life as my own. And while I wish to share this life in kindness, compassion and empathy with others, I will not hesitate to defend when threatened. ... "...and when you wake in the morning finding that you still lie in hell, lick your lips, spit on the flames, and walk on through the fire."

The Caged Arena

Clap!

Clap!

Several claps resonated from a distance which made me nervous to the point at which I made the lance vanish.

I knew that no one should be at the arena as all the gates were currently closed so whoever was approaching, knew or saw a fraction of what I have been doing.

I tried to stay calm as I continued to hear the smooth sound that reached my ears making me figure out that the one coming was a woman.

"I see you haven't forgotten all the training that you went through." A smooth feminine voice spoke up as a figure revealed itself from the shadows that it was hiding from.

"Princess, what brings you to my death cell?" I asked as I was perplexed by her sudden appearance.

I knew for a fact that we had something in common from all the things that happened yesterday, but I couldn't figure out how to talk with her as I used to. So the only course of action to take was just one.

"Hmph!" She snorted before raising her eyebrows at me.

'Shit! I just messed up.' I thought as I figured out what is the next step that I should take.

Swish!

Just as my mind faltered, one of the broadswords on her back was already unsheathed and I could feel its cold sharp side across my neck.

I commended her for her quick reaction and assessment.

"You know, I could have asked you a question but with that, I would look like an idiot... What's up Lucifer. You have never called me a Princess before, what has changed?" She mused as she pushed the blade further on my neck.

I could have sworn that the next time that she pushes the blade further, blood would be drawn. I quickly thought of the lance, maybe I could use it to purry the blade off. But my mind ruled off that thought as I remembered that she is the one that got Nevaeh in the condition that she was in yesterday. And that proved only one thing, she was the crop top of her age mates.

"Okay, I don't remember anything before I was caught the other day." I shuddered at the mere thought of my neck being cut off clean from my head.

"I just came to confirm my suspicion, I knew something wasn't right but I couldn't figure it out... So now tell me, what did you do to my sister?" Heaven asked as she eyed me curiously with the blade still on my neck.

"It's okay." She added before sheathing her sword on her back. "I came to spend the remaining moments of your life with you."

Clank!

With just brute force, the locked door opened as she held out her hand for me to hold.

"Where are we going?" I asked as I felt that something fishy was going on in her mind and the worst thing is that she hadn't displayed any emotions on her face making it harder to read her mind at all.

"Taking a grand tour of course. If you can't remember anything, then I'll show you around until it's time." She answered as she pulled me out of the cell.

Her hand felt soft like cotton candy which was unreasonable as she practiced every day on her dual swords. It kept me wondering how was she doing it because even if she were from the Royal Family, with training everything gets scalded with time. But she was just the opposite.

Within the next hour, she had taken me through the whole arena and we were now seated on the topmost part of the arena looking at the rising sun on the horizon.

"Thank you for the tour." I bantered as I felt the warmth that the princess gave out.

She was cool and at the same time, ferocious.

"You're welcomed. By the way, are you sure that you can't remember anything?" She asked as she looked me in the eye.

"No, nothing comes to mind before that." I answered as I lowered my head in embarrassment.

"This is my final gift for you... I hope to be your friend in the next life too." With that said, I just felt the sweet sensation of her soft and warm lips on mine.

I was too perplexed to even push away. Rather I stayed and let her explore my mouth with hers.

At that time we were sitting on the topmost part that holds the curtains in stormy and rainy weather. With just a little effort, one would fall to their death but we were unconcerned as we continued our lengthy kiss.

We broke it suddenly and we were just an inch from falling when she supported us with her sword.

Massive sounds of metallic doors opening across the arena were heard and soon crowds of people started to fill the stands. It seemed that they were happy as they just bickered about joyously.

We just remained where we were until the whole stadium was full to the brim. I guess the other thing that the people were waiting for was the arrival of the Royal Family which by far only their seats were unoccupied.

I looked back at Heaven and wanted to pose a question when she answered even before I asked.

"No, I feel safe anywhere I am."

With that out, I continued to scour the stands looking for someone, my mother. I searched everywhere and couldn't find her. I guess she didn't want to see her only son die by being devoured by beasts in front of thousands of people.

"Don't worry, everything will be fine. It will be quick even before you know it, but I promise you that I'll make her life hell on earth." She commented before standing up on the narrow log that we were sitting on.

In the general direction of her gaze, I saw the Royal Family and my mother walking in the arena as the King led the way.

An eerie feeling swept across the whole stadium as everything died down in a second. As they sat down on their respective seats, the King looked impatient as he kept glancing at the royal entrance for someone.

"I guess I should go as without me I guess nothing will be happening today. I can give you a hand down if you'd like." Heaven consoled as she stretched her hand to me.

"No thank you. I'll be alright." I said as I saw her free jump from where we were without anything to support her landing.

Gasps!

Gasps!

The whole stadium was shocked by the sudden grammatic entrance from the most loveable princess in the Kingdom.

Even the King himself got up to his feet as he feared that with that act, he was surely losing a daughter today but whatever was set to happen, was beyond his reach so he decided to just pray for the better.

Upon reaching halfway down, she drew her swords and started flicking them around making strange sword curves which pushed the away air and created a void space around her making her fast fall reduce in speed and at last changed direction and stopped just in front of her seat.

It was a magnificent display of power that only a handful in the whole kingdom could accomplish. After seeing her just accomplishing an impossible feat, I decided that I would also have my grand entrance as I commanded the lance to float in front of me.

I stood on top of it and steadied myself before commanding it to move towards the arena gracefully.

All those that saw me, thought that I was standing in thin air which was just insane and crazy compared to what Heaven just displayed. Just before I stood on it, I didn't make it visible making people the feeling that I was floating.

Cheer! Cheer! Cheer!

Cheer! Cheer! Cheer!

Cheer! Cheer! Cheer!

The crowd stood up as they cheered me with thunderous sounds that am sure could be heard across the whole kingdom.

At that moment, a burst of emotions filled my heart as I did some on-air maneuvers which made the crowd go even crazy.

"I hope you chose something that will make his death a slow and painful one." The King asked her beloved daughter Nevaeh as disgust and contempt were clearly shown on his face.

"Don't worry dad, everything is ready. It will be a day to be remembered." Nevaeh answered as she also found the act of a mere commoner being cheered by the whole arena was just a show of disrespect for them as the royals.

After a few minutes of a show-off, I headed for the arena and landed on the sands gracefully without any incidents.

The crowd was still crazy with yelling and cheering that the whole arena seemed to be shaking from the events when the King stood up suddenly and waved his hands several times before everything settled down.

"Good morning...
