A Pretty Big Deal
Hazel's heart ached. Someone who had known Will for a while was asking her to take care of him. There was something else she needed to do before she could hang up and get rid of the cell phone forever.
"Carlos…how long have you known my husband?" she asked.
It took him a moment to respond. "Ah, lemme think. I came on the scene about eight years ago but I didn't have much interaction with him in those days. I was involved in low-scale jobs and he was one of the top dogs at the time. This was when Alfonzo was still in charge.
"But I proved myself over the next year or two so Alfonzo decided he liked me and Gold and I got thrown together a handful of times. I worked hard to support him during the handover after Alfonzo died so eventually I became his number three…or possibly four.
