Tatsuya led Ina-Shika-Cho clans and 2000 shinobis under him southward as reinforcements, rushing to join the Hokage and the others. The journey took ten days, during which Kirigakure didn't remain quiet.
Another attack was meticulously planned, and the outcome was predictable by Mist Shinobis. Once again, the Konoha suffered a defeat, and the Hokage and elders were compelled to retreat. The entire southern region of the Land of Fire was transformed into a tragic, war-torn area.
The Mist Shinobi displayed ruthless tactics and assassinations earning them the moniker "Blood Mist." During this period, Kirigakure's reputation began to soar, while the scale of the population and property loss in the Land of Fire was incalculable.
Hiruzen didn't even dare to remember the numerous letters from influential nobles and rich merchants, berating him for his failures.
A glance at the map revealed that the Mist Shinobi Army had advanced within two hundred miles of the Daimyo Palace and was just three hundred miles away from Konoha Village. This distance was not insurmountable for a skilled Jōnin-class ninja well-versed in concealment. The Daimyo Mansion's security was equally precarious.
Tatsuya and his comrades could already envision the Land of Fire's Daimyo's and Tsunade's reaction after learning about the breach in the border.
Nawaki didn't even beat around the bush and directly complained, "I can't fathom why some people continue to lose battles, even when their forces are twice as strong."
Nawaki squinted at the the old group, a sly glint in his eyes as if implying something deeper. The faces of Hiruzen's group paled, and Mitokado Homura gritted his teeth.
"The Third Mizukage is from the Yuki Clan and possessing the Ice release Bloodline limit, is exceptionally formidable. Plus Yagura an exceptional elite Jonin and the Seven Swordsmen of Mist are not to be underestimated. Mist Shinobi should not be taken lightly," Koharu warned.
"Hiruzen is getting older, and it's natural for his strength to wane slightly. He did manage to defeat the Third Mizukage a few years ago," she added.
"Is the Third Mizukage truly that powerful? I remember he was present during the first five Kage meetings led by my grandfather. He's quite old and our Hokage-sama should be a few years younger than him. He should have an advantage," Nawaki questioned incredulously.
"Well, it's not just about age; it's about pure strength. But what Koharu advises does make sense; perhaps weaker individuals should retire early," Tatsuya mused.
Hiruzen, Homura, and Koharu remained silent, their anger evident in their eyes. Perhaps not only Tatsuya and Nawaki were happy with these words. Even Danzo showed a malicious glint in his eyes when he thought about Hiruzen's retirement.
Patriarchs from Ino-Shika-Chō hung their heads, avoiding involvement, though turmoil raged within their hearts.
These lines were exceptionally instigating, leaving even Tatsuya in awe of Nawaki's sharp tongue. Perhaps he didn't inherit the Shinobi talent but he is sure to possess Tobirama's ruthless way with words. The words 'evil Uchiha' still huants the Uchiha clan even after many decades of Tobirama's death.
"Alright, let's return to the matter at hand," Tatsuya redirected the discussion. "Mist Shinobi are closing in, and the Daimyo Mansion is in grave danger. If this persists, Konoha will face financial difficulties in the future. The Daimyo's support, ninja missions by the nobles and merchants, and village development are the cornerstones of our economy."
Among the five great nations, the Land of Fire is renowned for its willingness to spend generously. As a result, it qualifies for Tatsuya's protection.
"First and foremost, I'd like to request Lord Hokage, the three elders, and the Sarutobi and Shimura clans to lead their forces to the Daimyo Mansion for its protection," Tatsuya began, pointing to the Daimyo Mansion's location on the map.
While safeguarding the Land of Fire's treasury was a necessary duty, Tatsuya had no desire to attend to the needs of a pampered, elderly gentleman. Coincidentally, there were some elderly individuals present who were disgruntled, providing an opportunity to mix business with pleasure.
"You want us to serve as the Daimyo's guards!" Homura's eyes widened in disbelief. Despite the need to protect the Daimyo, the role of a mere bodyguard was beneath them, especially for the old people who had held high positions for decades.
"Hatake Tatsuya, remember, you hold no military rank; you're just an ordinary Jonin. What right do you have to issue orders here, especially to the Hokage?" Danzo questioned, his tone cold.
If it were Nawaki, a rift in their group dynamics would certainly ensue, but Tatsuya remained composed, his countenance displaying no signs of irritation.
"In that case, let Nawaki take the lead. As the future Hokage consultant, it's an ideal opportunity for his internship. The four of you can join me on the battlefield," Tatsuya suggested calmly.
These words left all four nearly choking on their breath. Were they intentionally sabotaging themselves? Joining Tatsuya on the battlefield? Throughout the year, they'd experienced little success in battles, often emerging battered and bruised.
Moreover, Tatsuya had just proclaimed Senju Nawaki as the future Hokage consultant!
"Alright, Nawaki, you'll lead a team to the Daimyo Mansion. Prepare to depart," Tatsuya directed, gesturing with his finger.
"Understood, Aniki," Nawaki replied, casting a provocative look at the Hokage and the elders as he exited the barracks.
"Hey, Hatake Tatsuya, what did you mean by saying that Senju Nawaki is the future Hokage consultant?" Koharu couldn't contain her outrage.
Tatsuya responded calmly, "Simply put, although Nawaki lacks ninja talents, he's accumulated extensive experience during his years in the ninja school. I've encouraged him to pursue a career in politics and serve as a Hokage consultant. There should be no issues with that."
Hiruzen's expression darkened. "Danzo may be old but I have no intention of changing consultants."
Tatsuya grinned and refrained from responding to the Hokage's remarks. If Nawaki were here, he would likely say, "Are you seriously under the delusion that you can still be the Hokage after the line of blunders you have made in this war?"
"Alright, everyone, prepare for battle. Bring medical supplies to the battlefield!" Tatsuya ordered, waving his hand.
"Yes!" Ino-Shika-Chō acknowledged, promptly departing. They had no desire to become entangled in the affairs of these god-like individuals.
"I look forward to witnessing the valiant performance of the Second Hokage's Guards," Tatsuya mused, smiling at the elders as he left the camp with Rin.
Five seconds later, sounds of uproar stemmed from behind.
