Boredom makes one try to do anything, right?

[ ~ Chapter • Start ~ ]

I was staring with utter boredom at the teacher who was teaching me and my fellow classmates seated all around this classroom, and my seatmates were quite.... annoying, as expected.

Not too annoying, not even annoying enough to make me feel irritated, but just a tad bit annoying, I know. I'm mentally old enough to tolerate acts of bullying, too, but a little bit of mischief can be quite humorous.

Either way, I actually enjoy playing in home for quite a while, but relearning what one has learned was honestly quite a refreshing experience since I was in that eternal void.

There were things I actually enjoy though.

Learning about the mecha-shifting weapons, the most strange and confusing thing I have been thinking of for quite a while since it was mentioned.

You know, like Crescent Rose, which can be a Rifle and a Scythe. Apparently there were hidden compartments installed deep inside the sockets of each mecha-shift weapons, developed by the Gears Industry from Atlas decades ago, which was a worldwide business which I wouldn't really talk about other than having the best makers of weapons.

And me, being a recently 10-year old kid, proceeded to be heavily invested into robotics, not just weapons. Why robotics?

I was an engineer. I'd build things normally and naturally impossible to me from my past life by expanding my knowledge and innovating using that.

I'd build this, I'd build that. Only my resources being gone can stop me.

One of my main dreams were to build by own company, you know?

Aside from that.... I can't have my weapon made until I have become a high-school student, due to that I kinda was bored unless there's some lessons and projects going on.

So to temporarily cure that boredom right now, I took out a mock crossbow that were just several pieces of wood glued together and loaded with chalk from my "Soul Pocket", which I now named my semblance as.

Because right now, the current teacher had left, and the next teacher would come soon enough.

"Reddal! Uh.... where did you get that?" A classmate of mine asked, as she worryingly stared at me.

"My semblance, obviously." I answered, and obviously, like a child she was completely amazed even though she was a sixth grader like me now. "Right! But before I shoot the chalk to our upcoming teacher, may I know your name?"

She tilted her head, and smiled quite toothily. Not as much as Rubes, but it did almost rival hers.

Then, as if she had a sudden realization, her head lowered quite a bit.

"What's wrong? Are you shy?"

When I asked her this, she seemed to beam up to me, as if she wouldn't ever regret being here.

"Huh? No, not really! I was just worried that someday I wouldn't be able to see you and a few friends I made here in Patch anymore. Anyways, I'm Coco Adel!" When she introduced herself, I merely replied with a smile.

So she's Coco Adel, the future "Fashionista in Beret" of Beacon Academy. How much have I not remembered for a long while since I was in there?

Meh, that's not even important! I have another thing to do! When I noticed that the door was about to be opened, I aimed my mock crossbow directly at whoever was entering my room.

Despite the worried glances of my classmates, most were girls, I fired the chalk by lightly pulling on a lever that released it.

And to my surprise, the chalk was caught between a man's fingers who appeared to have not expected this to happen, right before he stared at me.

"Hm, interesting....." He spoke, before casually tossing the chalk to where it belonged and scolding me immediately. ".... Reidal Rose, right? The genius of the Rose family, and quite a mischievous one at that. I appreciate your act of wanting some attention, but please, when you grow up, please don't do that to another teacher. And this is your first warning, by the way."

A few chuckles and laughs can be heard from around the room, but it eventually became silent and I had to put my mock crossbow into my Soul Pocket and gave the teacher a peace sign.

Naturally, things casually happened. We listened, and I relearned what had to be relearned. You know, just to refresh my mind.

Days passed, turning into weeks, then into a few months. I interacted socially between my classmates, and actually made a few new friends, despite me showing a little bit of trust within them.

Anyways, after I and my sisters were escorted back home by Taiyang, we were treated with several baked cookies made solely by mom.

"Reidal! Look!" Ruby spoke as she ran towards me with a paper in hand. "I drew my weapon I would use before I become a huntsman!"

When she gave it to me, I noticed that even if it was a little badly drawn, it looked reminiscent of Crescent Rose, and more like Qrow's Harbinger.

"A scythe? And what's it's name?" I asked, and Ruby beamed up to me excitedly.

"I just liked the way Uncle Qrow fought and thought I could try replicating him! And, I haven't really decided a good name for it, so can you help, please~?" She spoke a little rapidly and with immense excitement.

"Uh.... I don't really think replicating him would do you any good. Anyways, I think Crescent Rose would be a good name for your future weapon." I spoke, and then she squealed happily, thanking me for giving it such a "cool name".

Well, at least she was happy about it.

"But before you go, Ruby. I wanted to tell you something!" I spoke, smiling quite delightfully at her before patting her hear.

"What was it?"

Obviously she was very curious, so because I was, once again, bored.....

"Did you know about the path to enlightenment? All cookies, are made equal, no matter how good or bad they are made. However, in order to reach the end of the path, one must make the perfect cookie, all by themselves." I spoke, shooting what was inside my very bored mind right now.

"Woah~! Does that mean....!"

"Yes, Ruby. You must learn the path of cookies, and stay undeterred, determined, and brave no matter what obstacles would stop you." Once I said that, she thanked me and ran to somewhere, leaving me alone for now.

Now I was curious about what Yang was doing, and the moment I found her, she looked completely alone.

"Yang? What's wrong?"

Silence filled the atmosphere.

Something might be wrong around here.....

But what was it?

The moment I gently patted her shoulder, the kid suddenly turned to face me and....

"Boo!" She shouted, right in front of my face while she raised her hands, trying to scare me.

A-and that goofy ahh face....

"Pfft!" I spat out my saliva away from Yang as she was completely confused.

"What? Did that not scare you?" She asked, and I raised my finger while giving her a smile of my own. "Please, brother! Tell me!"

"No, you're not scary at all. It's more like you are better at making jokes and puns than scaring others!" I commented, not ever knowing this would become one of the factors that lead to her gaining her canon timeline's personality.

Not that it matters, anyway.

This is this, that is that. Simple as.

Aside from that, Yang looked skeptical at first.

"Brother, tell me one example." She spoke, before gaining a smug expression. "Tell me a pun, or else I'll call mom over!"

"For what? Fine, fine...." I ended up thinking of a very lame joke. More like a meme from Earth. "Oh man.... It's so sad that Steve Jobs was infected by the Ligma disease...."

Oh fuck. Holy horsefuck.

Fuck that, I have reverted to my L state, even for a short time. Zamn.

So what did I do? I just left, ignoring Yang's cries and questions about who Steve Jobs is or what Ligma was.

Things were quite normal afterwards, but then after dinner, mom took out her Scroll and stared at it.

She did gulp nervously, though....

"What is it?" Tai asked, and she glanced at the four of us worriedly.

"My first mission, after a few years of inactivity...." She spoke nervously, before shaking her head and smiling optimistically. ".... But don't worry! This mission is merely Class C and a solo one at that! Just an easy job for an elite huntress like me!"

I began gulping.

For some reason, a glass mom had begun washing had slipped out of her hands and dropped to the floor. No worries, she has aura.

But..... A horrible feeling began to creep up my spine. It feels as if something was going to happen, not just to myself, but to the entire family.

And yes, tragedy eventually struck when the entire family received a report about mom dying.

It didn't affect me as much, but everything began to go downhill, despite my system being activated after that day.
