Conner Reyes

Meanwhile, back in Midgard….

Most people thought Conner's father was a demigod, they were wrong…..

Conner was now in a cell after being knocked out by a monster back in Mayfield. It made no sense to him why he chose to go save this particular woman, though he didn't succeed because he was too weak to fight the thing. His cell was made of tough glass that he had punched countless times and he had accepted defeat.

He wasn't sure where he was or how long he had been here, but he knew that this was a Nightrise facility because the Nightrise logo was on the gray jumpsuit he was now wearing, must have been their company prison clothes. When he first woke up in this cell. He found himself with stitches and needle marks all over his arms and this jumpsuit lying on the metal bed that had been properly laid.

He was given all three meals of the day, all served by mysterious masked men. And would be let out in the morning to do some exercise. In the courtyard.

Conner was just a fifteen-year-old boy from Washington D.C, he had no family because his only family was his mother who was murdered a year ago by god slayers because she had demigod blood in her veins. All his life he knew that they were special -- she was a superstitious person and she would tell him tales of how his family is connected to the Norse gods. Thor in particular. He didn't believe in her stories until that night when a man blew the house door open and murdered her in cold blood using a sword made of light. That night he heard her last thoughts telling him to run and hide. that was when he manifested his abilities.

Conner had bright blue eyes like his mother and black hair that resembled that of his father. They were not rich nor were they poor, he had studied and was declared a genius by the time he earned himself a scholarship to Harvard University at the age of fourteen after doing an entry test that failed over five hundred educated people. But he dropped all that when his mom passed away, he lost both his parents to tragedy. His father from an illness when he was six and his mother to godslayer.

He turned hateful and miserable, he always had shabby hair and he had lost the ability to smile. He had worn the same clothes for weeks. No one knew how he survived, but he spent the past year studying about the gods and trying to learn what he can do with his abilities. He could teleport, fly, and move things with his mind and was slightly stronger than an ordinary human. He had analyzed how to activate each power and was soon ready to master his abilities.

Weeks before this, he was sleeping at an orphanage when he started hearing the whispers and voices of a woman. The more he ignored the louder they got, it even reached a point where he could have dreams and visions of a boy about his age and same eye color dressing up in a uniform like he was preparing to leave. In the visions, he got to know Jane Carter, who was the boy's mom. The visions also showed him that Jane Carter was attacked by giants, he teleported from Washington to Canada, where he had his first showdown with a monster and it was a failure.

Here he was. In a glass cell, curled up in the corner in a gray jumpsuit doing nothing else but thinking of all the possible ways, he could escape. So far, he had one hundred fifty-six, but they would only be possible to carry out if he was out of this unbreakable glass cell it was like a coin with two faces meaning that he had no other possible escape options. he couldn't even try teleporting out.

The metallic door opened and a smartly dressed man walked in. He was in a black suit, with the coat having white stripes moving vertically to make a pattern. In his right hand, he held a black briefcase, possibly carrying more tools for experimenting on Conner.

He looked and he could tell, whoever this man is he must be smarter than most people in this facility.

Behind the man was a woman, a female doctor. He could tell by the lab coat she was wearing. She said something to him, "...remarkable DNA structure…." that's all he could hear through the soundproof glass.

Once she was done speaking to him, he gestured by moving his free hand and the camera in the corner of the room, then 'beep' the door to Conner's cell opened and the man walked in. The woman rushed to bring a chair for the man to sit on.

He settled and the woman rushed out without saying anything.

He glared at Conner for about three minutes before he said anything.

"Conner Reyes…"

"What do you want from me?" that was the first thing that blurted out of Conner's mouth.

The man smiled at Conner's aggressive tone, "I want what you want Conner, I want revenge," the man had a very calm and pleasant voice the kind that a psychiatrist would use to relax his patient.

"Revenge?" Conner scoffed like what the man had just said was nonsense. He stood up, walked from his corner, and stopped right in front of the man.

What makes you think I want revenge?"

"Because I know what you've been doing of late, looking for answers, for texts that are connected with gods and a way to get to the kingdom of godslayer, Valron."

Just mentioning Valron, Conner felt a surge of anger grow in his mind, but he was a genius who can't let his anger take over. He needed to find another way. Of convincing this man that he's on the same side as him.

"What do you want from me?" This time he asked in a kinder tone.

'First, my name is Oscar and I am the chief executive of Nightrise cooperation," he said. "I am going to get straight to the point, we need you to help understand the mysteries of the universe and the world tree Yggdrasil," he pronounced the tree's title wrong but Conner immediately clicked what that was.

"You are the first demigod to step foot in this building alive,"

"So you mean the rest are dead," Conner said,

"We needed their blood to make the world better, heal people and save the world. Those demigods chose to be our test subjects and they signed contracts that authorized us to do so."

"All their contributions helped us come up with cures for the diseases that torture the human world. You're a smart boy, you know what am talking about."

"So you need my blood?"

"Oh, no, we've already got enough of your blood, you regenerated on your own. Have you checked your arm?" The man asked. Conner checked his stitched arm and the man was right, he had recovered already and it was like he wasn't cut at all, this was a new power.

"I want you to work for Nightrise," he said.

Conner looked at the man surprised by what he had just heard.

"You are gifted, your powers can help us understand the gods and in return, we will give you an allowance of one million dollars per month and on top of that, we will give you the name of the god slayer who murdered your mother. Do you accept?"

Conner was perplexed, he saw this as an opportunity to escape, but also as a trap laid in the open for a rabbit to jump in and get caught. They wanted him for something, he could tell. Was it connected to the woman he had seen the other day, or to the boy that he sees in his visions?

He took one look at the briefcase he was holding and wondered what was inside, maybe a weapon to use on him just in case he rejects his offer. Anyway, it was his offer or the cell. Those were his options.

"I accept," Conner said.

A bright smirk grew on Oscar's face, "I know you're a smart boy," he said. "Don't try anything funny,"

Conner smirked, "Who said I am?"
