Chapter 9: Alone

Angel's POV:

One Month Later*

After weeks of being at Greenwood High, I was comfortable. Well, second week, I was starting to feel comfortable. I gained new friends, got different classes. It was so different being at my new school. We had that assembly about me being human. Everyone was super shocked. Excluding Kacey, Aaliyah, Meghan, Trey, Keisha, surprisingly, Lucky. Kacey told me she told him I was human. Everyone was pretty shocked and confused as to why I went to a school with magical beings and how I knew of their secret and why I was able to stay. So I had all eyes on me every time I entered a room. The whole school wanted to know what it was like to be human. But the staff made them back off, as that question always bothered me.

It was just like being a magical being, but without powers. It was really annoying. As nice as I am, I can get pissed off. Like I was when Trey snapped at Lucky. Twice. Kacey talked to him, along with me and Keisha. We told him to stop hating Lucky and stop being mean to him. Trey did befriend Lucky a week later. He said he was just protective over me, which is dumb. I know I'm human and everything, but I don't need saving. I can take care of myself. Lucky and Trey ended up hanging out a lot to really become friends. Trey said it felt weird and uncomfortable since Lucky is bi. I talked to Marcus who spoke to Lucky. Marcus said Lucky didn't have any attraction to Trey anymore. I guess cause of Trey blowing up at him, the attraction was no longer there.

Me and Lucky did get close though. Since that day we both went to Light Lake. I didn't even know he knew of it. I developed a crush on him. I really liked him, but I didn't know if he liked me. Still having my depression, I don't think he ever will. No dude wants to be with someone whose depressed. Plus, I've had a relationship that ended badly. I don't want to go through that ever again so I think it's best for me to stay in the friend zone with him. As I walked down the hallway to my next class, I turned my head to see Keisha kissing some boy. I sighed. She's too fast with her life. I walked over to get her. "Keisha." I said. She looked at me and straightened herself up. "Oh h-hey Angel." She said, as she walked over to me. "What the fuck are you doing?" I asked.

She looked back at the boy who quickly walked away. "Girl I'm tryna get some dick. I haven't had it in awhile." She said. "How long is 'awhile'?" I asked. "A year." She said. "Oh. Well don't be so fast with life girl. Your gonna miss some things." I said. She stared at me. "What?" I asked. She shook her head. "Nothing. Come on. Let's go meet Meghan." She said. We walked over to my class and Keisha stopped. "What's up?" I asked. She stared ahead. I looked at what she was seeing. Some girl was glaring at her. "Made an enemy already?" I said, sarcastically. "The bitch should've never touched me." Keisha said. I laughed. "Don't even trip." I said. "Later Angel." She said, as she hugged me goodbye. She walked off down the hall and disappeared around the corner.

I walked in my classroom and sat down. I put in my earbuds and listened to my music. Students piled in after another. I looked back at my phone and played Flow Free Bridges. It was and awesome game. I felt heat coming off my side. I turned to see Marcus. He had his earbuds in. He took them out once he saw me. "Hey Angel." He said. I smiled at him. "Hi." I said, as I took my earbuds out. I looked at him closely. "Hey you okay? You look upset." I said. He sighed. "I am. I found my mate but she's too busy kissing other dudes." He said. I immediately knew who it was. "Let me guess, Keisha?" I said. He looked at me. "How'd you know?" He asked. "She said you were her mate too." I said, as I put my bag down.

"Why didn't you say anything? Why she kissing other dudes then?" He asked, irritably. "She was gonna tell you but she saw you with a blonde bitch." I said. "That's my ex. I broke up with her when I found Keisha." He said. "Well you better go find Keisha and tell her that. She said she looking for some dick." I said. He groaned as he covered his face with his hands. "Yeah I know. Keisha is a fast one but she can settle." I said. School went by fast. I watched from a distance as Marcus ran up to Keisha, who was about to get into the car of another dude. Marcus asked for me to go with him, but I'd rather not be near Keisha when she finds out I told Marcus he's her mate. Besides, she wasn't gonna and at home so I was home free.

I watched as Marcus told her about them being mates cause she jumped on him. The other dude got mad but Marcus knocked him out. I smiled and shook my head. I creeped my way into the parking lot and got in. I turned my car. "ANGEL!!!" Keisha shouted. "Bye big sis!!! Love you!!!" I said, before I sped off. I heard Marcus's booming laughter. I sped off back home. I pulled up and got out and headed to the front door. I walked in and saw a note on the fridge.

Dear Angel, no one is gonna be home with you after school, so be careful. We need Aaliyah and Meghan for something and Trey & Keisha will be gone to complete a task for us. Stay in the house until one of us comes back. Love, Alma.

I stared at the note and shook my head. All alone at home once again. I threw the note away and opened the fridge. I'm not a baby. I don't need a magical being to be here to protect me. I walked upstairs to my room and plopped down on the bed. Last time I was home alone was back at my parents house, when they smoked up a stash and the police came and got them. I was home alone for a few days. It was terrifying, not knowing who could in the house and kidnap me. Anything could happen to a child. I turned on the TV and turned to The Amazing World of Gumball. It was a great show to watch and funny. I looked down at my phone and saw my background picture.

It was of me, Kacey, Keisha, Marcus, Lucky, Trey, Meghan, and Aaliyah. I stared at Lucky. He wasn't at school today. He wasn't at school for five days. Marcus went to his house and said he had the flu. He first came to school and he was green in the face. He threw up a lot in second block so I took him to the nurse. I then called Marcus to come take him home. I wanted to go see Lucky and see if he was okay but the Magic Council told me not to leave the house. It's bad for me to wonder around at night cause magical beings can be themselves around that time. I won't be long. Just a quick pop in. I looked at my phone and texted Lucky that I was on my way to his house. I got up and headed downstairs to the door.

I grabbed two muffins first then ran outside. I ran to my car and quickly drove off. I was super excite to see Lucky. I pulled up to his house and got out. I seen him Mom in the garden. "Hi Angel." She yelled out. I waved at her. "Hi!! I came to see Lucky." I said. She smiled and nodded. I opened the door and saw his Dad. He looked up at me and stared. "Oh hi. You must be Lucky's Dad. I seen you in the pictures he showed me." I said. He was still staring at me. "Oh I'm sorry. I'm Angel." I said. He made a face. "Oh your Angel. Lucky said something about an angel but I thought it was a hallucination of his fever." He said. I nodded. "Uh how come I never seen you before?" He asked.

"Oh well, your never home to meet her since your job is more important than your son's life." Lucky's mom said, walking in the room. He glared at her. "Yes. The job I have to help pay bills and keep food on the table and keep your fine ass in Gucci and gold." He said. Daaaaamn. "Well I'll just go see Lucky." I said, as they stared each other down. Talk about awkward. I quickly ran upstairs and looked around for Lucky's room. With this house being so huge, it was easy to get lost. Marcus said he got lost in this house twice but he came around to it on his third go round. I find Lucky's room and knocked. "Lucky?" I called. No answer. I called again but got no answer. I opened the door to see him sleep. Awww.

I walked in and saw his TV on. It was also on The Amazing World of Gumball. I sat down at the foo of his bed and watched it. Lucky mumbled and grunted in his sleep behind me. I glanced at him occasionally. I don't know how long I was watching TV but I stopped when I felt a hand on me. I screamed and jumped up. "Oh I'm sorry." Lucky said. "Lucky? Your awake." I said. He smiled. "So I am. Um, what are you doing here?" He asked. His voice deeper because of his fever. "Uh, I texted you I was on my way here." I said. He looked at his phone and nodded. "So you did." He said. I nodded. "Yeah." I said. It was an awkward silence after that. "What are you doing here Angel?" He asked. I raised my eyebrows. "What, you don't want your friend to check on you?" I asked, sarcastically.

"Oh no no no. I do. It's just that....I expected Marcus to come through." He said. "Well Marcus is busy at the moment. I told him that Keisha is his mate so now their probably off doing stuff." I said. He gasped. "What? Keisha is Marcus's mate?" He asked. I nodded. "Yeah." I said. He blew a breath. "So uh can I ask you something?" I asked. He nodded. I sat down. "Do your parents argue all the time?" I asked, curiously. He laughed. "Not all the time. Usually it results in them having sex and I'm either not awake or not here when it goes down." He said. "Oh." I said. "Were they arguing when you got here?" He asked. "Sorta." I said. He chuckled. "Angel, they don't argue like that. It's all in good fun. But the sex part of not fun. For me anyway." He said.

"Oh." I said. "Do your parents argue?" He asked. I shook my head. "Oh. Well good. When do I get to meet them?" He asked. I turned away. "Never." I said. "Why not?" He asked. "Lucky, my parents are drug addicts. The Magic Council got me out of a bad situation. They swooped in and saved me. It's been a month since I last saw them. I don't know how they're doing but I wish them nothing but luck." I said. He stared at me. "Wow. Is that why you guys left?" He asked. I cocked my head to the side. "You, Trey, and Keisha? Is that why y'all left?" He asked. "Oh no. Trey and Keisha were turned by magical beings so they had to leave. I left because at my old school, my principal was a perv and my parents let me take the blame for a ounce of coke when really it was theirs." I said.

"Damn." He said. I nodded. "Yeah. Shit happens. But it's just best to move on." I said, crossing my arms. "Angel, I don't get it." He said. "Get what?" I asked, curiously. "I don't get how your so positive all the time. Your so sweet, you get good grades, your parents are drug addicts, your principal preyed on you, your a human who goes to an all magical being high school, yet your so positive." He ranted. I chuckled. "I'm not always positive Lucky." I said. I turned away and sighed. "I have depression." I said. I looked at him. He looked upset. "Despite me being positive, I'm depressed. I try to be the best Angel I can be, but I do have my moments like everyone else. It all started when my parents first turned to drugs to cope with their problems." I said.

I shook my head. I remembered that day so clearly. Mama and Daddy stressing over the bills. Dad's 'friend' gave them drugs and told them it would help them a lot. "They turned to drugs and it tore us apart. Trey and Keisha were turned and they had to leave. My parents got caught one day and they had to go to jail for a few days. As a child, being home alone is hell. You don't know what could happen to you." I said. I looked at Lucky. He was staring at me. "What about you?" I asked. "What about me?" He asked. "You seem to live a good life. Your rich, you live in a house this great, you have both parents and they love you, you have an awesome best friend, awesome friends, and amazing life. You zero problems Lucky. It's part of your name. Luck comes your way." I said.

He scoffed. "It's not what you think Angel." He said. I turned to him. "What do you mean?" I asked. "My life wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. I found out I was bi when I was nine. Told my parents. Dad at first rejected me, Mom still loved me. I think because of me, my Dad cheated on my Mom. I caught him in the act. He hasn't told my Mom. If she found out, it would crush her. I constantly hit on my best friend, I had a bad relationship in the past and it caused me to despise relationships. That's why I didn't want mates. So when I found mine, I would tell them I don't want to be with them, no matter what the Magic law says." He said. "Magic law?" I asked. "When a magical being finds their mate, they're supposed to be with them for life unless that mate dies, then they move on to a new mate. But that's rare." He said.

"Have you found your mate yet?" I asked. He opened his mouth but my phone went off. I answered it. "Hello?" I said. "Angel, where are you?" Trey asked. "I'm at Lucky's house." I said. "Why?" He asked. "I wanted to check on him, make sure he was okay." I said. "Okay that's good. But the Magic Council is going crazy cause your gone." He said. "Oh my God, can they chill? I just wanna wanted to see Lucky. That's it." I said. "Angel do you even know what time it is?" He asked. I looked at the time. Shit!!. It was 8:40. "Look, time slipped away. I'm on my way home. Right now." I said. "Hurry up." Trey said. I hung and looked at Lucky. He was leaned back against his bed.

"What?" He asked. I shook my head. "Nothing. I'll see you soon Lucky." I said, as I ran out the door. "Hold up Angel." Lucky said. I looked to see him following me down the stairs. "You can't go out this time of night by yourself." He said. "Lucky, I appreciate-" he cut me off. "Your not suppose to be put here by yourself at night. I wanna make sure you get home safely." He said. I sighed. "Okay." I said, as we walked out the door. I said my goodbyes to his parents and over to my car. Lucky transformed into a dragon and flew high in the night sky. I drove off back home with Lucky above me. I looked around and saw wolves running in the woods. I shook my head.

I pulled up to the house and got out. Lucky flew low and landed. "Thanks Lucky." I said. I hugged him. His dragon skin warmed me up. His way of hugging me back was wrapping his wings around me. I looked up at him. Everything in me screamed to kiss him. "Angel?" Called a voice. I turned around to see Meghan. "Oh hey." I said. "Hey Lucky!!" Meghan said. Lucky snorted and flew off. I walked in the house and saw the Magic Council. Aw hell. "Good luck." Meghan whispered, before running upstairs. Welp I'm dead.
