So painful were those moments When the earth shook and the seas rose How cheerful life could stand still As though everything was killed All the happiness gone once for all That seemed to me a painful fall Everything I knew wiped away All I could hear was the deafening silence All I could feel was emptiness As if everything was shrouded in darkness All I could hear was my sister crying in madness Adapted from Farah Sherazi's Destruction, Death and Decay.

Chapter 39: Outcome of the Battle

Zach arrived at home in his car. He parked if in front of the house and got down from his car. He had was in a good mood. He had become a level 2 superhuman today. He was planning to run away before the police figure it out. The two detectives he met in the morning gave him a dangerous feeling.

He dusted his shoes on the footmat outside and opened the door. He came back home to kill his wife and then run away. He walked into the sitting room. The house was just like how he left it. He frowned when he noticed his shoes leaving prints on the floor but he wasn't bothered. He figured rain might have touched the footmat. He started to go to the bedroom he kept his wife in.

Raziel had seen Zach open the front door. He patiently waited till Zach walked to the side of the sofa before springing out. He punched through the air at Zach, "Brightflash!"

Cosmic fire wrapped around his hand connected with Zach's shoulder making a dull sound. Zach was sent flying across the room into the wall but before his body could touch the wall he disappeared.

Raziel stood upright with his arms spread apart in front of him, "Surrender Zach! There's no way you can win this fight. I'm pretty sure my punch rendered your right arm useless."

Raziel smirked while looking around the sitting room, "There's no way you can beat me with one hand and it's even your left hand."

Zach was shocked by the power packed in that punch. He was sure if he was still at level 1, he would have been knocked unconscious by just that punch. How the fuck did the police lock onto me? Wait, it's only one cop I can here. His other partner must not be around. I can still win...

When he was punched he swapped places with the nearest object to him which was a table cloth. He turned both of them into illusions so Raziel would not notice anything missing. Because he could not be seen when he was an illusion, he moved stealthily to the other end of the sofa waiting patiently for an opportunity.

Raziel continued to look around the room and saw footprints. Zach may have turned himself into an illusion that can't be seen but he can't turn his environment into an illusion.

Without any change in his expression, he faced the direction of Zach's footprints, "Cosmic Storm!"

A storm of lightning and fire rained down in the direction of Zach's footprints. The storm tore down everything in it's path. Zach tried to maintain his illusion but it was futile. He was injured and maintaining an illusion in the cosmic storm would have required him to be in his full state.

His illusion disintegrated and he appeared before Raziel while clutching his right arm. He attempted to swap places with Raziel but Raziel was prepared.

"Brightflash!"

He stomped the ground with his right foot wrapped in cosmic fire. He made use of Brightflash to accomplish two things. First, he used it to disrupt Zach's technique of swapping places with him. If Zach had continued to switch positions with him, he would have landed in a ball of cosmic fire.

Secondly, by using Brightflash this way, he could launch himself into the air towards Zach.

When Zach saw that his attempt at trading positions had failed, he forcibly entered his illusion state when he saw Raziel coming towards him with a punch. He entered his illusion state to mitigate the power of the punch. The punch would have to break his illusion state before even touching him.

Raziel smirked when he saw what Zach did. The punch was never his main attack. He never planned on using Brightflash once more.Brightflash was a powerful attack but he cannot use it continuously. Using it three times was going to drain him of energy.

"Cosmic lightning!"

Lightning was the best form of attack against illusions. Using cosmic lightning while Cosmic Storm was still raging in the sitting room would increase the power of cosmic lightning by at least half.

Ordinarily, this should be impossible for a level 1 but his suicide attempt had not only given him the ability to control the Mojo in the air. It had also doubled his capacity to contain Mojo in his body.

Cosmic lightning struck down and pierced through the illusion state of Zach tearing it apart. It struck Zach right in the middle of his head frying his brain before he could react.

He fell down on his back twitching on the floor.

The odds of the fight had been stacked against him before the fight even began.

Maya walked out of her hiding spot surprised, "I didn't think you had battle experience!"

Raziel chuckled, "The moment his footprints were exposed, he was already doomed."

Maya exclaimed, "But still that punch you gave him at first sealed the outcome of the battle. Where did you learn to do that punch?"

Raziel laughed, "Trade secret."

Maya shook her head in annoyance, "Do you know what to take from his body in order to advance?"

Raziel frowned, "Yes!" He went to the kitchen and took a knife from it. He tried to cut Zach's brain open but he couldn't do it.

Maya took the knife front him, "Let me do it."

Raziel stood up. He tried not to vomit because of what they were about to do, "I only need his brain."

Maya used her powers to make the knife very sharp and cut open the skull of Zach. She scooped out his brain and placed it in a metal container.

Raziel tried to contain his disgust. He wondered what level of depravity he would have to get to just to get stronger. In this current world, humans were no different from animals because only animals eat each other. He collected the container from Maya.

Maya said to him, "Refine it and advance now. I'll watch over you."

Raziel nodded. She is his partner, they would have to trust each other with their lives at some point.

He placed the metal container on the dining table. The sitting room had been destroyed in their battle. He poured cosmic fire into the metal container and started to cook the brain matter.

Maya was still standing in the sitting room, "He's a level 2 superhuman. Don't use everything. When you feel you can't refine his energy any longer, stop!"

Raziel nodded, "I know!"

When the brain matter was refined by his cosmic fire, he waited a few minutes for it to cool down. He focused his mind and convinced himself he was eating ice cream. He poured half of the brain matter into his mouth and sat down. He started to refine it within his body then he felt it was not enough. He then swallowed the rest of the brain matter from the metal container.

Boom! A tempest swept inside his body. He had advanced into a level 2 cosmic pathway superhuman.
