So painful were those moments When the earth shook and the seas rose How cheerful life could stand still As though everything was killed All the happiness gone once for all That seemed to me a painful fall Everything I knew wiped away All I could hear was the deafening silence All I could feel was emptiness As if everything was shrouded in darkness All I could hear was my sister crying in madness Adapted from Farah Sherazi's Destruction, Death and Decay.

Chapter 12: Lord of Storms

Vice-Admiral Rowland stepped out from the compartment above an hour later. Lightning flashed uncontrollably across his eyes. He appeared tired, "Refining the energy of Mallos was very tiresome. The energy of a human and an animal are innately different so it's very strenuous refining that of an animal." He sat on a chair and turned towards Commander Carol, "I did not use all of the blue liquid. I want you to find Lightning superhumans of any level. We'll entice them to work for us for a small portion of the blue liquid. Find them within ten days because after ten days, you know the blue liquid will be useless."

Vice-Admiral Rowland faced Raziel, "I expect Carol to have explained things to you. I'm going to tell you something you're forbidden from telling anyone else. If you say a word of this to someone else, you'll die a very slow painful death."

Raziel nodded his head up and down like an agama lizard.

Vice-Admiral Rowland looked through his drawers and brought a potion. He threw at Raziel, "That's an healing potion, you should drink it. Your wounds are going to take a long time to heal so you should use the time we'll use to sail back to rest properly."

Raziel opened the potion and drank it

Vice-Admiral Rowland asked Commander Carol to direct the officers to sail back to Nicaorh. She proceeded to leave the deck.

He stood up and looked out into the sea with his back turned to Raziel, "Aren't you curious why the government wants to capture superhumans of the three main pathways so badly? It's actually very simple. Superhumans like you are made into potions. It's those potions that are used to create superhumans of lesser pathways. I drank one of such potions same as every other superhuman of the lesser pathway. There is a mad scientist among the upper echelons of the government. He is the one that found out how to create those potions. To him, you're just a walking potion. You should be wary of him."

Raziel was dismayed and angry. He could not believe what he just heard. He did not want to believe it. How could the government be so cruel to do something so inhuman? Is it a must for everyone to gain powers? To think he is going back to a place where he would be killed for other people's greed.

Vice-Admiral Rowland continued, "In Nicaorh, you're going to be safe because you are going to bear my slave seal on your forehead. No harm will come to you in Nicaorh but if you'll leave Nicaorh, you're no longer under my protection and others will hunt you down to give to the government for rewards."

Raziel started to wonder what his life would be like if he had not picked up that slate of power. "Why did you save me?" He asked while struggling to sit properly and look at his face.

Vice-Admiral Rowland turned back to face him and looked him in the face with a smirk, "I guess it's because I like younger men."

Commander Carol came back into the deck. The destroyer ship had started moving again. She looked at the Vice-Admiral with a smile on her face, "So what does if feel like to reach level 4?"

Vice-Admiral Rowland spread his hands towards the ceiling of the deck and lighting filled the entire ceiling of the deck flashing spontaneously, "I feel like the Lord of storms."
