"Huh? Who is he? You know him?"
Butch a little aggressively asked, taking a step closer to Aisa, his face shortly turning into a scowl.
"Big Brother..." Aisa softly whispered, as she locked eyes with Ken, whose eyes were indifferent.
Ken stepped forward and stood right in front of Butch, indifferently staring down at him. Aisa tried to reach out to Ken but Ken caught her wrist and shot her a sharp glance, telling her to stay silent.
Butch took a step back, his eyes showing clear fear.
"Leave before you a corpse."
Ken threatened in a low voice, but that caused shivers to run through every path of Butch's body.
He stumbled back, and quickly ran into the crowds, not daring to stay even a moment longer.
Aisa stared at Ken's back, completely ignoring the pain she felt from Ken's grip on her wrist.
'Big Brother is indifferent outside high society... I did something wrong.' Aisa concluded in her mind, she didn't understand what she did wrong, but seeing Ken, she blamed herself for being in the wrong for something.
Ken turned to Aisa, his indifferent expression turning to a serious one.
"I know you aren't aware of how the world works and I need you to start learning about it. This isn't the Valxin ground where all will obey, but outside the control of Valxin. Your first lesson is to not follow strangers unless you are strong enough to handle yourself, got it?"
Aisa nodded seriously, but looked a little confused 'I won't be admonished?'
"I am sorry. I was a little bothered, so I didn't pay much attention to what I was doing." She apologized but Ken only shook his head.
"You are unclear about what you are apologizing for."
Ken's expression softened and he released her wrist which was red with his grip mark, but it quickly disappeared, leaving no trace behind. Thanks to her being a Blessed one.
"In a medieval world, it's never a good idea to follow a stranger, no matter the case, but if you are strong and can handle yourself, then do as you please, the strong rule is the weak, the same rule as the High Society. So do what you usually do, High Society."
Ken advised and started to walk off, gesturing for Aisa to follow.
They had caught a lot of attention, all of them either admiring their looks or having ill intentions. Aisa silently followed, rethinking what she had done,
'Never follow a stranger... unless I am stronger? I will get stronger.'
Aisa decided in her mind, her cold mindset that she had as a Valxin showing itself for a moment, just enough to influence her thoughts to not be childish.
She stared at Ken's back, curiosity rising as they walked in the opposite direction of where Butch said the association was.
"Where are we going?" Aisa finally asked and Ken immediately answered.
"The association now,"
Aisa's mind reeled back for a second. 'Butch wasn't taking me to the association...'
She came to a realization and regret started to pour into her. 'I should have killed him the moment he came up to me...'
she coldly thought, but it was too late for that.
"Aisa, you added someone as a friend yesterday, correct?" Ken asked, glancing back to see Aisa nodding. "Ask her if you two can play together, It would be better to form a team than wander around alone" he suggested, to which Aisa agreed with no hesitation.
Ken stopped and turned to Aisa who also stopped. "Keep in mind that anything possible in BlueVail is possibly a common occurrence here."
Aisa widened her eyes, her heart beating slightly faster. "Even the events from 7 years ago?"
She asked, dead serious and very uncomfortable about the topic.
Ken nodded, "Possibly even worse."
Aisa remained silent, her childish mindset being replaced by her cold one. But then Ken added something. "But you dont need to worry about that. On paper and in the database of the VR pod you are listed as below 14, meaning the moment your emotional level reaches a certain point, the VR pod will forcefully log you off or put you in a deep sleep, forcefully calming you down."
Ken's words did little to reassure Aisa who hated everything that happened 7 years ago, If anyone other than Ken or her dad was brought up then that person would either be dead the next minute or disappear and never be found.
Aisa stood there for a moment, calming down, and glanced around, feeling the stares of many people locked on her and Ken. "They are staring"
Ken shrugged, used to this kind of attention. "Can't help it, try and get used to it."
Ken and Aisa were both top class in just looks, Currently both of them wore beginner clothes, a tunic paired with trousers that looked very unappealing, but they didn't do much or anything to diminish their charm.
Ken pointed to the right with his chin, where an unassuming building stood, with the only difference it had was that there was a sign that had 'Adventure association' written.
Aisa shifted her gaze to the building and a glimmer of surprise crossed her eyes, "We already arrived," she muttered,
"I will be taking my leave now," Ken announced and walked off, leaving Aisa who quickly entered the Adventure association to register.
Ken had his plans while Aisa had hers.
Near the edge of the city, Ken walked along an alley, a sword he just bought in hand. "Hmm, 40 copper coins for a sword... expensive for just a random sword." He muttered to himself, as he pocketed the remaining 60 coins he handed.
[You talk as if you are going to be short on money... That sword might not look it, but it's very durable!]
The system suddenly scolded.
Ken's lips twitched, "What else do you think I bought?"
The system giggled, [To break it after killing a couple a few hundred?]
Ken opened his mouth but quickly closed it, not wanting to entertain the system's nonsense.
[You are no fun... But honestly, why a sword? I thought you would be with a bow or maybe a dagger since you are more familiar with it. Actually, a knuckle bracelet would suit you better, after all, you are very good at CQC~]
The system complemented sincerely, which got an eye roll from Ken. "What are you trying by suddenly acting friendly and nice?"
[Who knows~ But if you ignore me, I will pasture you till you start talking or do something entertaining]
She cheerfully threated, to which Ken sighed.
'I know little of how to wield a sword. I had a sword on Earth, It was just a toy that I got in my childhood and since I had nothing to do, I dedicated myself to being busy with the sword... As for why I didn't pick the weapon you mentioned is because I would like to learn swordsmanship. I will go at my own pace and will do it how I want. No questions asked'
Ken mentally answered her, as he took a sharp turn, stepping out of the alley and to a street, heading to the city gates.
The city gates were massive reinforced stone walls, 30 meters tall, and the gates alone were 15 meters tall. A few guards were around there with a few people coming in, but that was it, the rush hours were over, making it the best time to leave the city without drawing much attention.
[Oh? OK, no questions asked then. So, what are you gonna do now? Go swing it at monsters you find?]
Her response was light-hearted, with a bit of mischief mixed in.
[Let me give you a little challenge~!] She whispered and a system screen appeared in front of Ken.
[Quest
Kill a giant bear (0/1)
Kill 10 normal Wolves (0/10)
Kill 100 goblins (0/100)
Kill the monsters as listed, if you kill a wolf without killing the giant bears then you lose!!!
Reward: In-game title 'Anomaly' and 1,000 System points.
Penalty: Timeout from the game for 10 hours.]
Ken quickly scanned the quest and smirked. "that's it? Well, it makes things interesting enough,"
He remarked as he walked out the city gate, he started to increase his pace to a jog, heading to the forest in the distance. "By the way, what does the title do? Anything special about it?"
[Hmmm... The title 'Anomaly' isn't so simple. It will give you more challenges, meaning more opportunities and a mystery that can help you but will mostly cause you trouble!] she remarked, her tone shifting from thoughtful to teasing. [It's not an empty title like your IRL Anomaly. So, be thankful ~ I am handing you an easy title,] she added with a playful lilt in her voice.
"Trouble you say... Considering that I am a Valxin, I am already a magnet for it, I wouldn't consider the title remotely troubling,"
Ken chuckled as he started to speed up, spiriting now. His speed was already comparable to that of the top runners in the world, which, in every sense, is impossible for a 16-year-old, even in BlueVail. Blame his first wish...
The forest wasn't far, it was just 2 kilometers from the city on all sides. Ken zipped into the forest, ignoring everything and going deep into the forest, easily avoiding the trees and any obstacles. Focused on finding a giant bear.
As he zipped through the forest, he passed a pack of wolves that looked like they had just finished a hunt, a bunch of green goblins, and a few kobolds but none of them were able to obstruct his path.
After nearly half an hour, Ken caught a glimpse of a giant bear but ran an extra 200 meters and slowly backtracked, his footsteps silent.
Ken could see the Giant Bear clearly as he approached, it was lying next to a tree. After reaching 30 meters into its vicinity, Ken climbed a tree and got into a good enough position so as not to just get jumped by the Giant Bear.
"Damn, this guy is like 5 to 6 times the size of a normal bear..." Ken muttered, his voice low.
[The anime wronged it. It looks so cuddle-able and is just 2 to 3 times the size of a normal bear... ]
Ken ignored the system for the time being, focusing on his target.
'Looks like it just had a meal and is resting. This is good. Now I need to somehow kill it...' Ken thought and looked around for anything he could possibly use.
"grrrrrr"
Suddenly, the Giant bear let out a low growl and sniffed the air, it got up and leaned on the tree for support,
CREAK!
The tree creaked as the giant bear leaned on it, The trees of this forest weren't weak... An average tree has a diameter of 1.5 meters and is 10 to 40 meters tall, but the giant bear just leaning on it made it creak...
The giant bear slowly moved towards Ken's direction, slowly and lazily.
Ken narrowed his eyes, prepared to jump to another tree if needed.
[It probably smelled you, hope you slip and fall then be eaten alive]
The system jokingly remarked, which made Ken's eyebrows twitch.
'There is a reason why I didn't just stop the moment I saw the giant bear and climb a tree,'
Ken lowered his position and watched. The Giant Bear reached under the tree Ken was in and sniffed around.
Ken took out a coin and flicked it at a rock.
Ting!
The coin made a ting sound which immediately caught the attention of the Giant Bear, it turned to the coin and that was Ken's mark to strike.
Ken unsheathed his sword and unhesitatingly jumped, swinging his sword downward.
His sword slashed down, cutting right into the giant bear's neck, cutting half way in.
"GRHHH!!!!" The giant bear roars in pain, its body spasming.
In the next second, it simply collapsed on the ground.
Ken steadied himself, feeling his legs numb a bit from the impact of hitting the ground but it wasn't much and for Ken it was very much ignorable.
The quest screen and his statue popped up.

"Nice, 5 levels with one kill. A pity they don't show the amount of EXP per kill and such," Ken mused but that triggered the system.
[You know damn well why! You and the grinder players will be a menace if they let you see the EXP you gain! If and I say IF the game system didn't have restrictions on EXP gain from how much EXP you gain after a certain number of killings of the same monster, then you and especially only you would have already been going to the dungeons to kill off all the monsters! And there wouldn't be any Monster Dens left!!]
Ken stayed silently for a moment, he couldn't deny the system...
"Fair enough..."
he couldn't deny the system. What she said was true... The game had pre-announced that if you kill the same type of monster a lot then the EXP you gain will start to decrease from that monster.
Ken and many other players considered it a pain, but this was the strictest rule, aside from the skill/title management and keeping things a mystery.
