I stand from the rocker and go to them. Matteo immediately reaches for me to take him, so I do.
Mariano looks at me with worry. "Will you be okay?"
"Of course." I softly chuckle, cradling Matteo in my arms and tickling his chest, making him giggle.
"Don't give mama a hard time, Matt. She's carrying your baby brother," he says.
"BB?" Matteo's eyes go round while curiously looking at his father as if he understood what was said.
I scoff. "You sound so certain. I'm telling you, it's going to be a girl this time."
Mariano laughs, his eyes crinkling at the edges, making my heart skip. "I see you still haven't learned by now, Ree."
"Oh, shut it. I feel different this time. When I was carrying Matty in my womb, it was calm and gentle. I really thought it was a girl."
