Mitchelle’s/Sunny’s POV
How messier could it possibly get? Ugh, I hate you Alex. I hate your unpredictable ways, the way you are confusing me with your ambiguous actions and words. I hate the way you make me feel special in some ways only to find out it wasn’t as special as I think it is ‘cause you do the same with others.
So, how do I actually feel about you? Tell me, how do I act around you?
---
“Will you be okay?” The new student council president asked me, snapping me back to reality.
“Yep, I just need to look around and check that nothing or no one is out of place, right?” I countered back.
“Yeah, more or less. If there’s a problem, just report it back to us or to any teacher you might see on site. No need to act unless it’s emergency.”
“Yeah. Got it.”
“Thank you for doing this.” He smiled at me.
“No problem.” I assured him as I push myself to my feet and ponder where I might start.
I’m on student patrol today. Not that I’m really obliged to since I’m not part of the student council. I decided to volunteer myself, keeps me from thinking too much. It also helps the student council after Jackson has left as the president. Maybe I am doing it as a compensation on his part. He is still a friend after all.
I feel bad for not being with Ari. The look on her face when the news reached her was painful even for me to see. I could only imagine how she felt in that moment. If only I wasn’t on patrol right now, I should be at least consoling her.
Sunny: Movie night tonight? I want to sleep over at your house. I’ll bring ice cream ;)
I sent her the message as I release a sigh.
I continue walking around. There wasn’t much to see. If students are to skip their classes, it wouldn’t make sense if they loiter around here.
I come across two female juniors coming from the CR, now walking opposite my ways. They are talking as they approach.
“…I really feel bad for her. I actually like that drummer but there’s no way I’m going to step in between them, especially against popular seniors.” One of them comments as she shakes her head.
“Yeah right. I hope she’s okay. They hit her pretty bad.” The other agrees.
I stopped in my tracks.
What do they mean? What happened?
I decided to walk around the ground floor when my phone buzzed inside my pocket. I pulled it out.
Ari: Sure! I’ll wait after school
I read Ari’s message then slipped it right back on my pocket. When I looked around, I noticed two figure walking together. The smaller one seemed to be limping and is supported by the other. I squint my eyes to take a clearer look.
It can’t be…
I run towards them. It wasn’t hard catching since they’re moving slowly.
“Wait!”
They painstakingly turned towards me.
My eyes widened at their sight. The smaller one looks to be in a really bad condition, there are bruises and wounds. Her hair is disheveled, so is her clothes. “Bree, what happened?”
Who would do this to her? She’s too kind to have enemies.
She looked at me for a fraction of second before bowing her head.
“She got into a fight.” Alex answered for her. I look at Alex, but she, also looked away after answering. It is the first time we’re talking again after the kiss. I still haven’t got the answers I want from her.
“I’ll help you take her to the infirmary.” I volunteered. I had to set aside my personal concerns for the meantime.
Bree lifted her gaze. “You-you don’t have to, Sunny. You still have cla-”
“I don’t and anyways, I’m on student patrol right now.” I reasoned.
This is like a mini-emergency after all. As if that would justify it. I just honestly want to help Bree. She’s like a little sister who trusts me. Something is not right if Bree is injured because of being involved in a fight. Since that day at Xerxes’, everything just drastically changed.
I don’t really like where it’s headed but Alex seems to avoid me as if I was at fault.. All she had to do is talk to me.
---
When we arrived at the infirmary, I immediately called the nurse’s attention in her office as Alex took Bree in one of the beds in the resting room.
“Would you mind if I ask you to bring some materials and med here?” The nurse asks towards me and Alex. We are standing by the bedside as she studies Breana’s injuries.
“What is it we need to bring?” I immediately responded.
“Go to my office and get the ice on the fridge, ice bag is near the sink, the ointment by the second level on the left cabinet and some gauze in that same cabinet.” She enumerated.
We both nod and went the opposite room where the office is. In my peripheral vision I see Alex go straight to the fridge. I refresh my mental list of the things the nurse said.
Okay, she’ll definitely get the ice and ice bag. I went towards the cabinets to search through them. It took me some time to find the ointment.
Hmm…I didn’t think it would still be on its box. I was looking for something rounded.
I saw the gaze but realize it was too late when I realize Alex was reaching for the same thing. Our hands touched. I felt that familiar warmth and tingles travel from my hand over my body as her hand came in contact with mine. Our gazes met causing my heart to skip a beat.
Yet, as soon as it happened, the faster it was when Alex retracts her hand. It’s as if dropping a hot potato. She averted her gaze. My heart clenched for a different reason.
There was a long stretch of silence.
The tension in the room was too thick you could even cut a knife through it.
“I-I’m so-rry.” Her almost inaudible voice stuttered. She can’t even look at me. Her eyes droops low to the floor.
Why is she apologizing for that? I’m not forbidden to be touched or too sensitive for that?
I want to know why. Why she did what she did THAT night.
“Can we - ”
“I’m going to take these.” She abruptly stated as she fled to go back on the opposite room, leaving me and my thoughts before I could even ask. I had no choice but to follow suit.
