Luke is back home

Selene walked into the dance party, where she agreed to meet up with Lysana. She had gradually forgotten the fight she had earlier until her gaze fell upon Lysana, that guy's sister. Although Lysana was her best friend, Selene couldn't control her anger. She took a few quick steps and banged on the table.

"Your brother!" She gritted between her teeth.

Lysana looked at Selene, surprised. She never saw Selene angry like this. Even when Lysana acted mischievously around her, Selene never got angry to this extent.

"What did he do to you?" Lysana laughed. She wasn't surprised. Samuel has been acting mean ever since he came back towards her, his sister, as well.

Although he wasn't her real brother, she always looked up to him. She admired him. He was perfect in everything he did: be it sports, academics, or business!

"He—" Just as Selene was going to start complaining, she realized she was in the wrong. She should've looked around properly. But it was also his fault. He should have held his phone tightly while walking, right?

"It's nothing…" Selene rolled her eyes and sat across from Lysana.

"If you say so." Lysana shrugged.

She looked around, and the room was quiet for a few seconds until a new song started playing.

"Go dance. I remember how you loved to come here and dance one year ago, how I miss that time! You look magical whenever you dance!"

Lysana grabbed Selene by her wrist and pushed her onto the stage among the other few dancers.

Selene took some time to adjust herself to the song's pace, but she started to gradually loosen up her body. She let her body get carried away by the beats she heard. Her eyes closed, and she moved around agilely as if her body wasn't hers but the music itself!

Everyone applauded the dancers on the stage when the song ended. All the dancers did a good job. They were all professionals, after all.

Selene was also glad she did well. She didn't expect her to do this well for a first time in a while. After all, she was called a dance genius when she was young. Her dream was to become a dancer.

However, dancers were not perceived well here. They are considered to be indecent. They are often compared to prostitutes because it was the men who often came to watch their performances. Unless it was famous dancers who were stars and idols who did it. They were excused to do so but not people of lower status. Even the people in the high class wouldn't dance because it is seen as an indecent act.

Selene knew she didn't stand a chance. She didn't consider herself even pretty enough to go to the audition for it, let alone succeed and become a famous dancer.

"You did A-MA-ZING!"

Lysana stood up and hugged Selene tightly in excitement.

Selene flinched as she was held in Lysana's arms. She started to tremble, and her breath turned heavy. She felt suffocated, and the feeling of being tied up overcame her.

"Selene?" Lysana questioned her as she heard her heavy breathing. "Oh, god!" She exclaimed and quickly let go of her. "I'm so sorry! I got too excited..."

"I-it's okay." Selene panted as she went to sit where she was before dancing.

Lysana followed.

"I'm really sorry. Please forgive me. I… I'm so so sorry."

"It's okay… calm down. I understand. It's my fault. I can't handle it when someone touches me. It's not your fault," Selene tried to reassure Lysana.

"I should head home, actually. Let's meet up at college, okay?" Selene gave Lysana a soft smile, which Lysana returned.

Selene took her purse and walked out of the room. She hasn't danced for a year, but her legs are already sore from all the movements she had to go through.

"I'm home," Selene mumbled as she went inside.

Her eyes widened at the sight. A pair of shoes that weren't her grandmother's were there; they were her father's.

She gulped. She took a deep breath, and curved her lips into a smile, trying to brighten up her darkened expression.

"Oh, so you know you have a house! It's already past eight. Is this the time to return home?!" Luke yelled at Selene as soon as she entered.

Selene stood at the door, without moving an inch.

"When I ask you a question, answer! Don't stand there like a lamppost. The middle-aged man furiously got up from his chair.

Selene couldn't see Luke's face clearly because the lamp beside the sofa was hiding it. However, when he stood up, his face became visible.

Selene stared at the man in front of her. The same man from whom she craved attention and love until a year ago. She still yearned for love a year ago.

He crushed all the hopes she ever had for him into a thousand pieces and couldn't even be bothered to apologize or show the slightest sense of guilt on his face.

Was he such a heartless man from the start? Or had the addiction to money, gambling, and drinking turned his heart cold to the point where it could no longer melt?

That night, she needed him the most.

That night, she screamed for his help. The single moment when she called him "dad" after years.

He watched her in pain. He saw her crying, begging for help, yet he left her, without glancing twice at her.

That one night, she lost trust in humanity itself. She trusted one man all her life, and he ruined her in the name of love. She has hoped for one person to care for her existence, yet he left her when she needed him the most; her father.

"Still glaring at me like this?"

Luke approached Selene, locking his gaze on hers.

However, Selene didn't blink once. The anger in her eyes was very much visible, which gradually started to turn into tears. Uncontrollable tears. Tears that reminded her of that dark night, her nightmare.

Her grandmother was working late, so maybe she could ask him.

Why?

Why didn't he help her?

Did he want her to be destroyed so badly?

Was her existence such a nuisance for him that he couldn't care less about her?

Just as she was about to open her mouth to speak, Luke started talking.

"Selene. Give me water."

Luke's voice tone had drastically changed. It had turned soft and calm.

Selene knew its meaning. Her face turned pale. Her left hand started to shake. She tried to stop it with her other hand yet both trembled at the same time.

He was going to do it. Again. And she knew she wouldn't be able to stop him this time either. Like any other time.

It has become his source of entertainment, to torture her.****

And a new chapter for you all <3
