First Impressions Don't Always Last

Samantha Curtis is in an arranged marriage with a very handsome rich guy 6 years her senior. On the first meeting, he downright turned the idea down. But circumstances happened and they ended up together with the condition that they shouldn't fall for each other. Can they keep up with it? Hello lovely people! This is my first time writing and I really appreciate it if you can support me and try to give my novel a read. I'll try to publish chapters as regularly as I could! :) P.S. The image I used for my book cover isn't mine. Took it from a free sharing platform and didn't cover the artist's signature.

Night Out

I went inside my car, put my stuff on the passenger's seat, buckled my seatbelt and drove away. I looked at the tall buildings set against the dark skyline.

One movie project came after another that made everyone busy with a lot of assigned tasks to do. More movies, more investors which did a really good impression on Chace's reputation as the CEO of the company. He works day in and out so he really deserves the credit.

Thankfully, the one with the Hilton group is already in production so Kara doesn't have the reason to be in the office anymore. The rest of the projects are going down smoothly as well.

With alot of things in the works, we hardly noticed how time flew by so fast. Chace and I celebrated our 1st year anniversary 9 months ago. With only three more months to go on our contract, he still hasn't opened any conversation about the topic yet.

We continued our relationship as it is except there's still no involvement of feelings. I can't say I'm happy about it but if he'll continue with that, I need myself intact and my emotions in check. That way, there's no need to recover from anything when it's all over.

Having that in mind, I began setting up for my future plans. I submitted my works in various companies and I got positive feedbacks. One company is already considering taking my work in and if all things go as planned, I will receive a go signal from them soon.

I got home and did my usual routine. Tonight's one of the nights when Chace will come home late so I just settled in by myself.

Preparing to head to bed, my phone buzzed.

Message: Free time at last! Don't forget about the party this weekend! :)

It's a text from Mabel. I haven't seen her as well in a while so I definitely want to catch up.

"Cheers!" we all gleefully said as we clank our glass together.

"Ah! This is so nice! I've missed the taste of freedom! I missed you girl! I feel like I've been isolated from humanity." Mabel said with a dramatic pout.

"Awww! Well, you did really good. That's why we should celebrate!" I said with an empathetic smile.

"That's right! Also, our Brent here has officially became a producer!" Mabel said like she's so proud of a son she raised herself.

"Congratulations, Brent!" I and the rest of the people from different departments greeted him with another toast.

"Thank you, everyone!" he replied with a blush.

It's a good night, everyone's enjoying and having fun. Relaxing for a short while not thinking about any workload. You can tell it with the merry sounds of chatter and laughter.

It's almost past 2 in the morning when we decided to go home. Most of the people who celebrated with us has gone earlier than we did. Brent was totally spent and drunk.

"This won't do. We need to call him a taxi or he'll be in the streets until he sobers up. Help him up, I'll just go the ladies' room then we can go." Mabel said.

I stood up and raised one of Brent's arm and propped it on my shoulder to support him while my other arm cling to his side. This isn't easy as he's a tall guy.

"Come on, Brent! Let's get you home." I said prompting him to move.

We somehow, made it out of the pub without stumbling. I tried to hold our position while waiting for Mabel to come out.

"Are you happy?" he asked out of nowhere with his drunken state.

"I am." I replied humoring him.

"No! I mean as a married person. You know I'm serious when I said I'll steal you back! I wiilll.." he said while reaching out his free hand to touch my face.

"Oh, Brent.." I said trying to dispel the conversation.

"I kept quiet. I didn't contest. But the moment I find out he's not treating you properly or you're unhappy, I will come get you right away.. I really like you Sam, do you know that?" he continued.

I find it sweet. If only he's saying that to me sober. But more often, truer words are said when someone's drunk.

Then, he tried to get closer and kiss me. I turned my face away but he's insistent.

"Brent, stop it!" I said struggling to oppose him.

All of a sudden, someone pried him away and pushed him on the pavement.

"What the fuck do you think are you doing with my wife?" Chace said angrily.

"Chace! He's drunk. Let's just go!" I said trying to stop him from getting closer to Brent.

Mabel came out of the pub just in time and gave me a knowing look.

"I got him." she said trying to help Brent stand up.

I followed after Chace and saw his car parked on the other side of the pub.

"Get in!" he said in a restrained angry tone I've never heard him use before.

I opened the passenger side of the door and buckled myself as I settled in my seat. So he drove himself. I wasn't amazed about that but by the fact that he knows where I am even though I didn't tell him where I'll be just that I'm going out with friends.

We drove in silence in lightning speed. I slightly looked at him and saw the tensed outline of his jaw.

We reached home and Chace went out of the car in angry strides. I walked after him not knowing what will follow next.

"What the hell were you doing? I've been calling and texting you and I never received a single reply back! Had I been a minute late who knows what that fucking bastard might have done to you!" he shouted.

I put my hand in my clutch bag and dug my phone out. I checked the screen: 12 messages and 30 missed calls.

Oops. Guilty as charged I thought to myself.

"I'm sorry. I was out with friends and didn't think you'll get worried because I was in safe company." I said meekly.

"You call that fucking safe? What are you thinking!" he said getting angry even more.

"Brent got drunk. It's not his character to do something like that. It's not like he violently tried to grope me or something. Calm down a bit." I said.

"So you're saying that because he did not do it violently, it's fine? He tried to kiss you! You're married! Why don't you act like one!" Chace shouted.

Those last two sentences sent me in a frenzy.

"Act like I'm married? Isn't that what we're doing all along?!" I snapped.

I want to thank Little_North_Star, CH2018, Sanya_Amber and the rest who put my novel in their library. I know it's not alot compared to the other novels that made it big here but your support means so much to me. Thank you so much lovely people! ♥️
