Chapter 1Prologue

Lila's breath came out harshly as she moved through the trees, her once silky pale hair matted with dirt and blood. A heavy downpour of rain began, and she was soaked down to the bone within seconds. The forest was dead silent, except for the heavy sound of rain pattering and an occasional scream and yell that would sound dimly through all the rain.

Her blood-stained clothes stuck to her skin, and her feet dragged behind her as she stumbled forward, one step at a time. The back of Lila's hand came back crimson as she swiped her mouth, trying to make the sour, metallic taste go away. Clenched tightly in her hands was the handle of the battered whip, the limp tip sagging against the forest floor.

"Almost there," Lila breathed into the rain. "Almost..." The rain slapped harshly against the wounds that afflicted Lila's body, and with every step she took, she felt like she was being cut. Over and over and over, deeper and deeper. Gritting her teeth, Lila took one step. Then another. And her knees collapsed, bringing her whole body onto the forest floor. No, she thought as she weakly lay there shivering in the cold rain. I have to save them. She didn't realize she had spoken out loud until a snide voice answered her.

"You poor thing, how are you suppose to rescue them when you can't even rescue yourself?" Lifting her head, Lila saw the pitying face of a familiar blonde man. He held an umbrella above them, and for the briefest moment, Lila thought she saw a hint of sadness in his eyes, but it disappeared just as fast as it came, replaced by a smirk.

"You," Lila said, her voice filled with venom. "What have you done with them."

"Oh, nothing yet." He gave her an unhinged smile, sending shivers down her spine. Shaking in effort, Lila pushed herself up, struggling to stand up. Watching her struggling movements, the man made no attempt to help her but continued talking.

"You could save them, you know?" He told her, shaking his head. "None of you have to suffer. All you have to do is drink this." Pulling out a glass vial, he swayed it in front of her face, the amber-colored liquid inside sloshing around. Lila finally managed to get to her feet, and held her head high, giving off an aura of confidence despite the state she was in.

"How do I know you will not harm them even after I drink this?"

"Do you have another choice? It's either this or they die." Lila was silent for a few moments before she snatched the vial from the man's hand and stood to her fullest height, and looked down on the man, even though he was taller than her by quite a bit.

"I trust that you fulfill your end of the deal," Lila commanded, her grace and beauty seeping off of her, evident through all the dirt, blood, and pain. She seemed to radiate the energy of Empress despite her current state. At that, she uncapped the tiny vial and gulped down all of the amber liquid, her face contorting in pain as the liquid burned a trail of fire down her throat. Lila held on with her last strength. Her head held high as she stood there, darkness crawling at the edges of her vision.

"You will never win," Lila darkly stated before the darkness consumed her. The ground feels so...soft, and I'm so tired, Lila thought, straining to keep her eyes open. A sudden pain shot through her, and everything went black.

~~

The man stood there silently as he stared down at the body of the woman, his face devoid of emotion. Rain pelted his umbrella even harder as if to blame all of this on him.

"Don't worry Lila," The man spoke, weariness echoing in his voice. "They will be safe. As safe as they can be...from you."

The Princess and Her Rough-Rider Khan

Petite Princess VS Rough Khan On their wedding day, Yelu Yan told Li Xianyun that apart from affection, he could provide her with endless wealth and honor. After the marriage, he indeed kept his promise, cherishing her in the palm of his hand. Little did he know, the more he cherished her, the deeper she burrowed into his heart, right to the very top. Not long after the political marriage with the Khitans, Li Xianyun gradually noticed earth-shattering changes around her: Initially, the commoners who disliked her began to worship her as a deity... The court officials accusing her of bewitching their lord were now pleading with her to consummate the marriage with the Khan... The most perplexing of all was her husband in name; wasn’t he the one who said he wouldn't give her emotional affection? Why was he always following her around? Little theater scene 1: One day, Yelu Yan cornered Li Xianyun against the wall. “Why are you avoiding this Khan?” “They say you might have taken a liking to your servant.” “Remove ‘might’, isn’t it obvious enough from how this Khan acts?” “But you said you wouldn’t give your servant emotional affection.” Yelu Yan held his forehead; he had indeed said too many foolish things. “The Han people always say that one should start a family and then establish a career; clearly, the two are not in conflict.” Little theater scene 2: The sun had risen high, yet Yelu Yan was still clinging to Li Xianyun. “Get up quickly, I have to leave. There are patients on the street waiting for my consultation, the good fields to the west need irrigation, the homestead plots in the east need measuring, and I have to oversee the silk reeling and dyeing... Uh...” “Your husband is a patient, don’t you care for him?” Li Xianyun looked at the man tough enough to rival ten bulls and was utterly speechless.

The Farm Girl's Charismatic Fortune

By Xishui River, there lived a family with the surname Ruo, whose luck was so disastrously poor that it was as if misfortune was possessed by their very souls. When other families had bountiful harvests, the Ruo Family harvested not a single grain. Their planted vegetables were devoured by insects, their chickens got chicken plague, their pigs got swine fever… Despite the household being full of strong men, they were either mad, crippled, or blind… What would have been a family of great prospects became the poorest within ten miles. The only thing that others envied about the Ruo Family was its thriving male members! The old lady of the Ruo Family had given birth to six sons, who then gave her four grandsons. She dreamt day and night of having a granddaughter. When she finally got a grandchild, to her dismay, the child was mentally disabled: at over three years old, she still couldn’t speak or walk, couldn’t even eat or relieve herself without help. Everyone thought the Ruo Family would never turn their fortunes around in this lifetime! That was until the half-old three-year-old mentally disabled child suddenly called out, “Mom…” The heavens began to change. The world began to turn mysterious. In the Ruo Family’s courtyard, the persimmons ripened overnight. The vegetables in the fields, nearly nibbled bare by insects, turned lush and green. The old hen that had never laid eggs suddenly started laying… While others faced famine, the Ruo Family’s granary was full. The eldest son was no longer mad, the second son was no longer crippled, the third son was no longer blind… The old lady of the Ruo Family, with her hands on her hips, laughed heartily to the sky, “Who says my Xuanbao is a dimwit? She’s clearly a treasure of blessings!” (This is a farming novel with a hint of fairy charm, where the female protagonist in a previous life was a just-awakened daylily that has reincarnated as a human.)
