Chapter 31

It was as if several bombs had been set off at the same time, bombs that had been planted in every single inch of the apartment. Devin felt heat swallowing him up and fire start to lick at all the exposed parts of his skin. His mind went blank. This was it. This was his destiny. Finally, he felt the horror his family had experienced at the time of their deaths and now it was his turn. Darkness began to creep around his peripheral vision and suddenly he felt so light as if he no longer stood on the ground.

Miles ignored the stinging pain across his belly and struggled down the stairs with Devin slumped over his shoulder. The man became unconscious after he’d seemed to panic the moment the fire began to spread. It was no use for Miles to try to talk to him to urge that they had to get away as fast as they could. Carrying him down was the only way he could save them both. Devin had looked physically okay when he beat up Sebastian. Miles prayed he really was all right.
